The judges and referee who are scheduled to work the Conor McGregor vs. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone welterweight main event at UFC 246 this weekend (Sat. January 18, 2020) are set.

MMA Fighting reports that Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) chief assistant Jeff Mullen has confirmed Herb Dean will referee McGregor vs. Cerrone. It will be the seventh time in McGregor’s UFC career that Dean will officiate one of his fights. Dean officiated McGregor’s last bout in October of 2018 against Khabib Nurmagomedov, which the Irishman lost via fourth-round submission.

It will also be the 12th time Dean officiates a fight involving Cerrone. Also, the NSAC has assigned veteran judges Sal D’Amato, Chris Lee and Derek Cleary to score McGregor vs. Cerrone. Dean’s pay remains undisclosed, however, he made $1,900 for officiating McGregor’s last outing against Nurmagomedov. As for the judges, typically, UFC PPV headliners make about $1,600 for their services.

Disclosed fighter salaries are scheduled to be released on Friday. McGregor is reportedly making $5 million compared to Cerrone’s $2 million. The Irishman expects to make near $80 million when PPV points are added in, but that seems very unlikely.

What do you think about the officiating and judging assignments made for McGregor vs. Cerrone?

The highly-anticipated return of Conor McGregor is just days away, as he’ll headline UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) against Donald Cerrone at welterweight.

Both men are known as strikers with the tendency to stand in the middle of the Octagon and bang. Many predict that the fight will end with a knockout if someone doesn’t try to take the fight to the ground. Speaking at a recent media scrum, Cerrone offered his ideal scenario for the contest. He’d like to finish the Irishman with a head-kick late in the fight. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“The best way? Head-kick knockout in the fourth round,” Cerrone said. “I want to (expletive) go in there and be tested, test him, and drag and drool and get some. I train hard for this. I’m here for this. There’s a lot of glory with knocking someone out right away. There’s more glory for me fighting and having to answer those questions in your mind.

“When you get wobbled, you get hurt, and you have to step back and bite to keep going? That’s the (expletive) sickness that I have that I love. If I could write it perfectly, it’d be a hard-ass, drag-him-through-the-dirt fight.”

Many have called for Cerrone to take the fight to the ground and utilize his jiu-jitsu, an area that McGregor has received much criticism for over the years. However, Cerrone isn’t taking McGregor’s grappling ability lightly, not to mention, he’s fighting for himself – not anyone else – and is going to go out there and fight his fight.

“I’m not fighting for any of you guys out there,” Cerrone said. “I’m fighting for me. That’s what I want to do. Then, everybody says, ‘Why don’t you just take Conor down?’ You don’t think Conor trains jiu-jitsu? You don’t think he’s got somewhat (of a ground game)? (Maybe) ever since he got submitted he’s been like, ‘Maybe I should work on that. Maybe I should work on my wrestling.’

“You think I can just walk out there and trip him like (that) and he’ll fall down? I’m sure he’s got good takedown defense, but I’m going out there to fight for me – not for anybody else. If I want to go out there and stand, can I take the (expletive) left hand? That’s for me to decide, and I can’t wait.”

What do you think about Cerrone wanting a head-kick knockout win over McGregor? Will it happen?

Donald Cerrone is undoubtedly in line to make the biggest payday of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career this weekend (Sat. January 18, 2020) when he takes on Conor McGregor.

Cerrone and McGregor will headline UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to a recent report, Cerrone is set to make about $2,000,000 for his scrap with the Irishman this weekend. “Cowboy” has seen this number floating around online, and revealed in a recent media scrum that it’s inaccurate, and apparently much more than what he’s actually getting paid for Saturday night. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“Somewhere in the business is a liar, because the money you guys show me making is not the money I’m making,” Cerrone said. “I need to find that person and be like, ‘Where’d you get those numbers? I want them.’”

As for McGregor, the Irishman claims he’s looking at making anywhere up to $80 million for his return to Octagon action this weekend. When Cerrone was asked for his thoughts on the potential mega payday McGregor is looking at, “Cowboy” suggested the Irishman fork some over his way.

“Hey man, (expletive) good for you,” Cerrone said. “Good for you. If you want to kick ‘Cowboy’ a little bit of that, a percentage would be even cooler. Like I said, if that’s a real number? (Expletive) right on, man.

“That means I did something right and he did something right and we’re selling a hell of a fight. Right on, man. Good for you. Throw ‘Cowboy’ a little bit of that grease when you’re done.”

What do you think about Cerrone denying reports that he’s making around $2 million to fight McGregor?

“I knew that was going to come up. People are good. Put a little limp, what if I was walking with a drawl? Or maybe I stepped on a Lego? I got a kid now. No, I’m good. No, I’m fine. I just kicked a pad funny, it was just a funny nothing, you know,” Cerrone said.
