On Saturday, October 13, 2012, UFC 153 will air live from the HBSC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the main event of the evening, Middleweight champion Anderson Silva will return to the Light Heavyweight division to square off against Ultimate Fighter Season 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar. Both of these guys stepped up at the last minute after the original main event was scrapped due to Featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s foot injury. Silva is the most dominant Middleweight of all time, but he has proven that he can get the job done at Light Heavyweight as well. He already holds a spectacular knockout victory over former Light Heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, the man who beat Bonnar in the Ultimate Fighter finals in one of UFC’s most historic barn-burners. Bonnar has to be commended for taking a fight like this on short notice, but it’s hard to imagine that he is doing anything but signing up to get destroyed here.

In the semi-main event, Brazilian legend and former PRIDE and UFC Interim Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira will do battle with oversized Heavyweight slugger Dave Herman. Nogueira made a career out of taking brutal punishment, surviving, and then pulling out spectacular come from behind wins, but in recent performances some of his famed durability seems to have slipped away. If Herman can pull off the upset, it would be the biggest win of his career and an amazing way to halt a disappointing two-fight skid. Rounding out the card will be a Light Heavyweight showdown between Brazilians Glover Teixeira and Fabio Maldonado, a Welterweight matchup between Jon Fitch and Erick Silva, and another 205 pound showcase pitting Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis against Brazil’s Wagner “Caldeirao” Prado.

In the main event of the evening, Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will meet to crown the UFC’s first-ever Flyweight champion. Benavidez cruised through his first title tournament bout, while Johnson had to fight his way through two hard-fought battles with Ian McCall. Benavidez is a big, physical guy whose only career losses came to 135 pound king Dominick Cruz, so if Johnson wants to finish what he started he is going to have to fight even better than he did against McCall.

On Saturday, September 1, 2012, UFC 151 will hit the air live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the headlining bout, Light Heavyweight Champion and unstoppable phenom Jon “Bones” Jones will look to defend his title against the only top 205 pounder he hasn’t already defeated, former two-division PRIDE Champion Dan “Hollywood” Henderson. So far, Jones has proven that he is on a completely different level than the rest of the division, but stylistically Henderson is probably the toughest matchup for him. Henderson is a world-class wrestler with one-punch knockout power, so he can threaten Jones in two ways, if anyone can threaten Jones at all. It sounds weird to say about a 40 year old former Olympian and two-division champion, but Henderson is probably going to need the best performance of his career if he wants to pull off the upset here.

In the semi-main event, IFL and Bellator veteran Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron will make his first UFC appearance since 2005 as he faces dangerous wrestler Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger. Hieron is a very well-rounded fighter and was one of the better Welterweights outside of the UFC, but he is facing a tough challenge in his first fight, as Ellenberger has stifling wrestling and huge amounts of punching power. Rounding out the rest of the card is a Featherweight showdown pitting Dennis Siver against Eddie Yagin, a Lightweight bout between Dennis Hallman and Thiago Tavares, and a flyweight matchup where John Lineker will face Yasuhiro Urushitani.

In the semi-main event, highly regarded Middleweight Hector Lombard makes his UFC debut against tough veteran Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch. Rounding out the card is a Heavyweight showdown pitting Cheick Kongo against Shawn Jordan and two welterweight bouts, the first featuring Brian Ebersole against James Head and the second pitting Ultimate Fighter alum Matt Riddle against knockout artist Chris Clements.
