 2011 might wind up being one of the most exciting years in the history of Mixed Martial Arts, thanks in no small part to Strikeforce’s recently announced Heavyweight tournament. Strikeforce has always struggled to compete with the much larger UFC, and the one area where they can legitimately contend is with their stacked Heavyweight roster. Now, they are going to put that stellar lineup of big men on display with a huge Heavyweight tournament this year. This is great news for both fans of the sport and for anyone looking to make a little money gambling on the events.

The good thing about a tournament format like this is that you can not only bet on all of the individual fights like normal, you can make early prop bets on who will win the whole tournament. Obviously, because the field is so large, you are going to get favorable odds no matter who you bet on to win. There are a lot of good betting options, including one of the few opportunities you may ever get to bet on Fedor Emelianenko at +160 for anything. You can also get wrecking machine Alistair Overeem at +200 or the hugely underrated Josh Barnett at +400. This is an unpredictable sport, so even a tiny bet on one of the long shot underdogs could get you paid in a serious way.

This event is going to feature a number of top-level matchups, and there will be a lot of money to be made by smart gamblers throughout the whole tournament. Still, nothing offers the profit potential of getting in on these prop bets early and ensuring great odds for yourself. Current UFC 127 Betting Odds – Live on Sunday, February 27, 2011 the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia will host UFC 127.  The Main Event of the night is between former number one Welterweight contender Jon Fitch (23-3-1)  against former UFC Lightweight and Welterweight champion BJ Penn (16-7-1).  Fitch is currently riding a five fight win streak with his most recent win over Thiago Alves via UD. Penn is coming off a much needed KO victory over Matt Hughes.  Prior to that fight BJ dropped two straight fights to current Lightweight champ Frankie Edgar.  BJ will test the waters once again at Welterweight against a very tough wrestler. This is a very interesting match and I’m curious to see how it plays out.

Current Strikeforce Fedor vs. Silva Odds– Live on Saturday, February 12, 2011 the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host this event.  The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament quarterfinal starts off with Fedor Emelianenko (32-2-1) taking on Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (15-2).  In Fedor’s last bout he was submitted by Fabricio Werdum giving him his second loss in 35 fights.  He will look to rebound and take the next step to the HW finals.  A “Bigfoot” stands in his way and will do everything in his power to stop Fedor.  Silva is on a two fight win streak with only one loss in his last 9 fights.  This will be no easy task for Fedor and should turn into a solid scrap.
