Lets get right to it. UFC 185 from Dallas, Texas is going to be one of the most stacked cards in UFC history. Right now though, we’re going to talk about the main event; Pettis vs. Dos Anjos. This fight has been in the works for a few months now and its finally here. You have possibly the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world with Anthony Pettis squaring off against what looks like an unstoppable up-and-comer in dos Anjos. Pettis for a title-fight is doing quite a quick turnaround after defending his title in mid-December of 2014, and Dos Anjos has three impressive wins in just the last nine months. The world is ready, now lets break this fight down.

Rafael dos Anjos #1 Contender 23-7

Dos Anjos has the skills to make this match one of the best of the year. Though this isn’t football, defense could be the key to this fight for dos Anjos. Obviously, defense cant win this championship but it cant sure give him the advantage he needs to wear down Pettis and strike. Dos Anjos can avoid takedowns and typically significant strike much more efficiently than Pettis and is going to need to use this skill to his advantage from the get go. Dos Anjos also has greater takedown abilities. His wrestling skills give him options with singles and doubles that many fighters just will never acquire. Lets also just speak to the athletic ability of dos Anjos. I hate to call people freaks but the athleticism of dos Anjos is nothing short of freakiest. His ability to switch fighting styles and move around the octagon with what looks like next to no energy is not a skill you can train for. Lastly, dos Anjos is quite possibly the greatest kicker the UFC has ever seen. He’ll wear down areas of your body until you give him the respect he deserves and then will pick another spot on your body to abuse. My advice for dos Anjos would to utilize his kicking skills and keep Pettis at a distance. Shoot the double when he sees it and wear him down on the mat. The overhand striking skills of Pettis are not something even the most veteran fighter would ever want to deal with. Dos Anjos has a better chance to win this fight than I believe Melendez ever did.

Anthony Pettis Champion 18-2

Theres not much to say about Pettis that hasn’t already been said. I personally believe he might be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. His skills are to that of say Jon Jones and I feel like his athleticism is superior. Pettis is going to want to keep this fight in the middle of the octagon for most of the fight. He understands the ground and pound skills of dos Anjos and I feel like he doesn’t want anything to do with those wrestling skills either. Even if Pettis were to find himself on the ground, his ability to find a submission is second to only a few. I’m interested to see the striking skills of Pettis up adjacent the defensive skills in which dos Anjos possesses. For some reason I feel like Pettis won’t be too intimidated and will keep to his game-plan and keep this fight on his feet and try to finish him quicker than Mendez. My advice for Pettis is to keep close to dos Anjos. Don’t let the kicking ability of dos Anjos control the fight and overall positioning. Pettis has better striking ability than dos Anjos has defense, Pettis needs to confuse dos Anjos with string combinations and random shots. Pettis has the edge to win this fight but it isn’t as overwhelming as he’s used to.

I’ve gone back and forth on this for about a day now. As first I thought that Pettis was just too strong for dos Anjos to handle, but after watching extensive dos Anjos film, thats just not true. There will be no overpowering by either fighter and I don’t believe that we’ll see one fighter completely control the fight from start to finish. Then I thought that we haven’t seen to many upsets in the past year and the wrestling skills of dos Anjos could possibly control the overall outcome of the fight. I’ve decided to stick with my gut. Vegas had Pettis sitting around (-400) and having grown up there, I always tell people who gamble there’s a reason this massive structures keep going up, its because they’re really good at what they do. Pettis will win this fight but it won’t come easy.

Rousey vs. Zingano Prediction

UFC Womens Bantamweight Title Bout: Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano

Odds:  ( -765 Rousey / +565 Zingano )

Betting Pick:  Rousey

Bet on this fight at Bovada

Coming to us LIVE from the City of Angels, Los Angeles, California, UFC 184 brings us Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano. The fighting world has been waiting for this fight for months now. No one, and I mean no one, has even proven to reside on the same planet as Rousey after stepping in the octagon. Cat has proven her worth since joining the UFC. She has made ladies bleed like I have seen in the Women division of the UFC. She has a viciousness you really only see in one other fight, Ronda Rousey. Cat just looks mean and feel like she has something to prove because no matter what she does, unless she beats Rousey, it’s back to square one. Rousey isn’t taking this one lightly, well because, I don’t think her genes allow her to. I believe this will be an entertaining fight from start to finish, and one you won’t want to miss.

Cat Zingano #1 Contender 9-0

When you look at the fight and the different areas usually talked about in UFC articles, it’s tough to say that Zingano cant be considered a favorite in any of them. She does that have some serious skill when on the mat. I know her record and wins show that she knockout her opponents like we haven’t sen before, her mat game is top notch. She needs to stay in control though. Now lets be clear, if she isn’t controlling the time on the mat, things will get ugly, quick. I know it seems insane to think that this fight will want to take the fight to mat but its really the only place she stands a chance, again, while in control. She is going to need to stay within herself. We have all seen Rousey catch an armbar when least expected and that’ll happen again if she decides to stray from her fight plan. Zingano has a chance in this fight, and at nearly +700, could pay off handsomely for some.

Ronda Rousey – Champion – 10-0

What can you really say about Ronda Rousey that hasn’t already been said. Rousey, systematically will control this fight from start to finish. She in a recent interview said she’s healthier than ever and that it’ll be nice not fighting on one leg. So hey, every women in the UFC, be afraid, be very afraid. Not only has she never felt defeat, no one has even proven that they should have even been the cage with her. Her striking, grappling, takedown offense and defense, and mentality are all superior to anyone else the UFC women’s division quite possibly will ever see. The sports book don’t see this fight going any other way either. They have Rousey sitting at about (-1000) and I don’t see that line moving very much over the next few days. Typically betting on a (-1000) is a sketchy bet but in this situation, their are definitely worse things to place a wager on (if it’s legal of course). Rousey will be in control of this fight on her feet and on the mat, it’s just really up to her how long she wants to be on camera.

I really don’t see this fight going many other ways than a Rousey win. She will be able to control the fight from start to finish with no issues in-between. Mousey should be able to snag a submission with the first round or may second with out having taken to much damage. Cat will land a blow or two that will get the crowd all rowdy, but nothing that’ll change the fight in a significant way. Rousey will land an arm-bar to finish this fight, and it’ll happen quicker than we all hope.

Prediction: Ronda Rousey by Second Round Sub.
