Newly crowned UFC light-heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira wasn’t surprised by his sensational performance against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267.

The 42-year Teixeira grabbed the admiration of fans and fighters alike after becoming UFC champion following a 19-year long career. The title came after a dominant performance over Blachowicz where Teixeira would secure the win over the favorite in the second round via submission.

The way in which Teixeira managed to run through Blachowicz who had been on an extremely impressive win streak was surprising to most but not the Brazilian.

“This is not gonna be an easy fight but I’m ready. I’m ready for whatever comes, there’s a man across the octagon with me and I have to beat him I can be world champion tonight,” Teixeira said on The MMA Hour. I didn’t think I was (going to) dominate and take him down that easy, again easy with respect, it was a quick takedown you know what I mean.”

Teixeira controlled Blachowicz for most of the first round and mid-way through the second, once Teixeira secured the takedown wasted no flattening out and submitting Blachowicz.

“So I stretch him to the ground, my cup is pressing on his back.” Teixeira told Ariel Helwani. “That’s a very uncomfortable pressure there and as soon as I put the hand, he tapped. “But I knew he wasn’t gonna go anywhere, so he probably knew that too.”

Glover Teixeira’s Long Road To UFC Gold

Teixeira’s title win comes seven years after he first challenged for the belt, when in 2014 when he took on Jon Jones and lost by decision. After this loss, which would be his first in the UFC, Teixeira would trade wins and losses with the best of the best in the organization, fighting the likes of Anthony Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson, and Rashad Evans.

Before his 2019 bout with Karl Roberson, Teixiera was 4-5 since the Jones fight and was heading towards the end of his career. Teixeira shared his thoughts about this time in his career, he said.

“For me not to be a champion, its missing something. I’m gonna do this, one last stretch I’m 40 years old, 39 years old I’ve got to start, like really focus on my camp off camp as well but just say you know what I’m gonna do this last stretch.”

Teixeira is now the champion on a six-fight win streak and took out top contenders Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos on his way to being the oldest person to win a UFC title for the first time.

“I was missing the belt, one day I could say I’m UFC champ and I was best in the world at one point, I can always say that”

Glover Teixeira is very high on his training partner Alex Pereira, and for good reason.

Alex Pereira is set to make his long-awaited UFC debut in the UFC 268 card this weekend. Pereira is a former Glory middleweight and light heavyweight champion. He has had a successful career in kickboxing and is now ready to take his talents to the UFC.

Many are excited to see what Pereira can do now that he has transitioned over to MMA but his training partner and newly crowned light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira knows exactly what to expect.

“Alex is so focused, so determined to win his fights and any fight. I’ve been training with him for a little bit more than a year now,” Teixeira said to RT Sports. “About a year and a half (ago) he came down to help me out for Thiago Santos. That’s where I met him.

Glover Teixeira: Israel Adesanya 'sh*t-scared' as 'daddy' Alex Pereira signs with UFC - MMA Fighting
Alex Pereira

“And he’s a hard worker, man. The guy is very disciplined, very hard worker, very humble to learn, and to open his eyes and to open his eyes and learn from everybody. And I believe that he’s gonna be champion. I believe that if he put his mind to it like he is doing right now—and he’s very smart. He gets thing very quick. And for sure, we’ll see him hopefully fighting Adesanya. So we don’t know who’s gonna be at the top by the time he get there, two years or a year from now, who knows, but definitely, he’s gonna be champion. I believe 100%”

Pereira has had four MMA bouts so far since making the switch from kickboxing. His first fight ended in a submission loss, common among those who have a background in striking. However, he bounced back and won the next three all by TKO or KO. One name that stands out on Pereira’s resume is his win over Israel Adesanya in kickboxing. Teixeira knows that his power is something that will set him apart from the rest of the division.

“Yes, it’s crazy,” Teixeira said of his power. “I’ve trained with so many people. I’ve never trained with a guy with that much power that hits that hard. And he’s a middleweight, and I train with a lot of heavyweights. He hits so hard.”

Pereira will be taking on Andreas Michailidis on the UFC 268 card on Nov. 6, live from New York.

Stephen Thompson says he was inspired by Glover Teixeira winning the UFC light heavyweight title at age 42 and after many ups and downs.

In the main event of UFC 267, Teixeira was fighting for UFC gold for the second and possibly last time in his career as he took on Jan Blachowicz. In the lead-up to the fight, Blachowicz was a sizeable underdog and many counted him out. However, the Brazilian surprised many and pulled off the upset with a second-round submission to win the belt. For Thompson, he says seeing the ‘old man’ get the win inspired him.

“That was super inspiring. It’s super inspiring, man. I mean, I’ll be 39 next year, February, so I’m catching up slowly but surely. But to see somebody like that definitely gives you some inspiration,” Thompson said to MMANews’ James Lynch. “Because at that point, he shouldn’t be fighting. Everybody would be telling him to leave. The sport has changed, and I like where it’s going. People train smarter, being smart with their training, spending more time with their recovery. I’m not really sure how he does it, but I feel like he takes care of himself, for sure.”

Of course, Stephen Thompson is 38-years-old and lost his last fight to Gilbert Burns at UFC 264 which many thought he would never fight for UFC gold again. However, as Teixeira proved on Saturday anything can happen, and “Wonderboy” is hoping to follow in the Brazilian’s footsteps.

Thompson, of course, fought for the UFC’s welterweight title in back-to-back fights against Tyron Woodley where he fought to a draw and lost a majority decision. Both fights could’ve gone his way but it didn’t. If he is going to win a UFC title, he will need to do it in his next fight, which he says will happen on December 18 against an opponent TBD.

One day after Glover Teixeira’s inspirational world title win at UFC 267, Daniel Cormier has shared an exclusive video tribute to the new champion.

At UFC 267, 42-year-old Glover Teixeira defeated more than the odds placed against him as the underdog of his light heavyweight title fight against Jan Blachowicz. He also defeated the odds and limitations placed on him because of his age and thus served as a beacon of hope and inspiration to millions.

One of the people fortunate enough to witness this remarkable event up close was Daniel Cormier, who was working the event as a color commentator. Cormier can relate to Teixeira, as someone who also captured a UFC title at an older age when he defeated Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title at age 39.

After Teixeira’s victory, Cormier confessed on air that he was beginning to tear up and that he would go up and give the new champion a hug during the post-fight interview. Cormier wasn’t alone in his weighted emotions witnessing this moment. Fighters far and wide took to social media to congratulate Teixeira and acknowledge the magnitude of his victory.

Monday, Daniel Cormier revealed that there was actually a video package that captured the significance of what Teixeira had already accomplished and was en route to potentially achieving in the main event.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the package never made it to air, so Cormier went out of his way to share the video on Instagram. In some ways, the package hits deeper when it’s viewed with the knowledge that Teixeira actually did climb the mountain in the end.

The video narrates how age has been viewed in sports, both in terms of youth and the aged, and celebrates other great athletes who managed to serve as the same inspiration that Teixeira would become by night’s end on Saturday.

Without further adieu, you can view the powerful video in full below.

In a recent Tweet, we see Chuck Liddell’s live reaction to seeing his long-time friend and training partner, Glover Teixeira winning the UFC light-heavyweight title.

Saturdays night’s UFC 267 produced one of the best cards of the year which was topped off by a memorable main event.

Glover Teixeira submitted Jan Blachowicz in the second round to become the UFC light-heavyweight champion at 42 years old.

Many took to social media to congratulate the Brazilian on his win and inspirational journey. One of which was long-time friend and teammate, former Chuck Liddell posting to his Instagram under a photo of Teixeria saying “Love you brother! So proud of you and your hard work.”

A video would also be shared of Liddell’s live reaction to Texeria’s win.

The History between Liddell and Teixeira

John Hackleman, the coach of Liddell had been impressed with a young Teixeira and had invited the young Brazilian to train at his gym, The Pit. Teixeira began training with Liddell back 2004, going on to be Liddell’s top sparring partner in 2006 until 2009. During this time Liddell would capture the UFC light-heavyweight title and would have great wins over Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva, and Tito Ortiz.

In an interview with Fox Sport Texeria had this to say about training with Liddell “he was helping me! He’s a good man. He’s taking his time to help me. That’s great, man. I can never pay him back.”

Texiera would have to return back to his home country of Brazil and would not be able to return back into the United States until 2012 due to visa issues. On his return he would continue to work with Hackleman and excluding a few fights between 2017-2018, Hackleman would be in the corner for every one of his fights.

Glover Teixeira Opens Up On When He Will Retire From MMA

Glover Teixeira had already made it clear leading up to UFC 267 that he would be hanging around for a while if he won the title, and now he’s opening up on when he’ll know it’s time to walk away.

Glover Teixeira’s UFC 267 victory over Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight championship was no doubt one of the most inspirational moments in MMA history. The immediate reaction from fighters of all backgrounds speaks to the magnitude of Teixeira winning the title at 42 after many, even some of his own friends, did not believe he could make it back to a title shot, much less the title.

Now that he has a fairytale ending, some might think it would be the perfect time for Glover Teixeira to ride off into the sunset like NFL players Jerome Bettis and Michael Strahan did after finally winning their first Super Bowl. But after winning the world title, Teixeira is standing by what he said during the pre-fight buildup: He intends on hanging out at light heavyweight for a while.

However, although he bucked the odds and got his hand raised last night, Father Time remains undefeated in the big war, even if it drops a battle every now and again. Thus, there will come a day when Glover Teixeira will hang it up, whether he is still the champion or not. And the Brazilian has a firm handle on when he’ll know when that moment has arrived.

“I think I’m gonna make that decision in the gym someday when I don’t want to do this anymore,” Teixeira said during the UFC 267 post-fight press conference. “I know it’s very hard. My wife know how hard I work, you know. She knows the time, trying to sleep, and forcing myself to sleep, stay in the bed like 14 hours sometimes just to rest my body, to take some sleep.”

With the way Teixeira has been performing in his six-straight victories capped off by a world title, that retirement decision doesn’t appear to be lurking about.

“But I love it. I love the results,” Teixeira said with joy in his voice. “I love the way I’ve been fighting, the way I’ve been training, so I’m gonna keep doing it until I don’t feel the love anymore. Until I don’t feel the passion anymore is probably gonna be the time that I’m gonna quit.”

Judging from the wide smile that never left his face after winning the world title, the love is still very much within and also all around him. So you can expect the new light heavyweight champ to try to take a few more rounds from Father Time before he eventually brings a close to his storybook run.

How much longer do you think we’ll see Glover Teixeira compete in the UFC?
