Top-10 middleweights Jack Hermansson and Sean Strickland are set to collide in the main event of the February 5 UFC Fight Night event.

The news of this middleweight clash was first reported by ESPN on Friday. The bout has been verbally agreed to by both parties and contracts should be signed shortly.

Both Hermansson and Strickland are coming off wins. Hermansson (#6) defeated Edmen Shahbazyan via unanimous decision in May but has had mixed results in his most recent fights, going 2-2 in his last four bouts. Hermansson has also kept himself busy by engaging in a wrestling matchup with welterweight Khamzat Chimaev.

The last time Hermansson main-evented a UFC card, he took home Fight of the Night against Marvin Vettori. Hermansson came out on the losing end of that contest and will certainly look to have a different outcome as he returns to the main event spotlight in February.

Sean Strickland (#7) has been searching for a new opponent ever since his bout with Luke Rockhold fell apart. Strickland and Rockhold were engaged in some very heated trash talk that was expected to culminate at UFC 268 in November. Unfortunately, Rockhold had to withdraw from the bout.

Strickland shut the door on a potential fight against Darren Till and name-dropped Paulo Costa or Jack Hermansson as targeted opponents. We now know that he has been paired with the latter opponent on the tail end of winter.

Sean Strickland is currently enjoying a five-fight winning streak, most recently defeating Uriah Hall via unanimous decision in a July main event.

MMA News will keep you updated on additional updates and fight announcements connected to this February 5 Fight Night card.

Sean Strickland Darren Till

Sean Strickland has no interest in accepting the call out from Darren Till.

Strickland is in a position where he is looking for an important opponent after Luke Rockhold was forced out of their fight due to injury. One of the people that called him out was none other than Darren Till, who said that he was offered a fight with the controversial middleweight contender by the UFC and that he was interested in making it happen.

However, it seems that while Till may be down for this scrap, Strickland does not feel the same. Taking to his Twitter, he revealed that he was more interested in a fight with Paulo Costa, but if that does not work out, he would be down to face Jack Hermansson instead.

“Instagram blocked me, joked about a pedophile dying and I guess they didn’t like it lol!!!! Anyways I’m not fighting Darren Till. I want Costa and if Costa can’t put down the wine and cookies I want Jack,” Strickland explained.

Bouts against Costa or Hermansson have more upside for Strickland given the trajectory of their careers right now, and the fact that they are ranked above him, and would help to propel him closer to a crack at the middleweight title.

Juxtapose this to Darren Till, who is always a big opponent, but is ranked below Strickland, and has lost two of his three fights since moving up to the middleweight division. No matter what the UFC decides to do, there are really no bad matchups to make at the top of 185lb.

Would you rather see Sean Strickland fight Paulo Costa or Jack Hermansson? Who do you think Darren Till should fight when he returns to the Octagon?

The event was headlined by Chimaev vs Hermansson in a freestyle wrestling matchup, where “Borz” would win in a dominant fashion and was met by a fan who managed to get past security. A few moments passed by before the overzealous Chimaev supporter was ejected from the event.

Khamzat Chimaev & Jack Hermansson UFC career’s have had different paths

Chimaev is currently undefeated with an MMA record of 10-0 and a UFC record of 4-0, ‘Borz’ has been making a name for himself in MMA’s premier promotion with several dominant displays against increasingly tough opposition.

In his UFC debut Chimaev defeated John Phillips by second-round submission at middleweight, he would then ten days later fight Rhys Mckee at welterweight and would go on to win by TKO in the first round.

In Chimaev’s first bout he would outstrike his opponent 124-2, in his second fight, he would outstrike his opponent 68-0.

At UFC 267 in his most recent bout ‘Borz”’ would defeat fan favourite Jingliang Li by first-round submission, this would enter him into the top ten of the welterweight rankings.

Hermansson is currently ranked sixth in the middleweight division, going 2-2 in his last four fights with a first-round submission over fan favourite Kelvin Gastelum, and his most recent fight being a win over Edmen Shahbazyan.

However his losses have come to the number three ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier by TKO, and former title challenger Marvin Vettori.

Khamzat Chimaev Could Be Close To Getting A UFC Title Shot

Chimaev’s stock in MMA has risen considerably over the past year, especially after his most recent finish over Li Jingliang at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi. He brought Jingliang to the ground with relative ease before wrapping it up with a quick submission victory.

Chimaev first rose to prominence in 2020, after earning three finishes over nearly two months. He finished Rhys McKee and middleweight Gerald Meerschaert during his eye-opening year with the promotion.

Before signing with the UFC, Chimaev made a name for himself during an undefeated stint in Brave CF. He has an undefeated overall professional record of 10-0 in MMA, with all ten of his wins failing to go the distance.

Hermansson came into the wrestling match with Chimaev following his dominant win over Edmen Shahbazyan in May. He showcased his elite grappling skillset and didn’t allow Shahbazyan to get going on the feet.

Chimaev is currently the No. 10 ranked welterweight in the UFC rankings and is on his way to potentially get a title shot in 2022. While his 2021 is more than likely done in terms of competition, fans can look forward to seeing the Swedish star continue his rise next year.

It didn’t take long for UFC welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev to gain weight back ahead of his wrestling match against Jack Hermansson.

Chimaev and Hermansson will go to battle in a special freestyle wrestling match in both fighter’s native Sweden. The Bulldog Fight Night 9 event will take place on Friday night in Gothenburg.

The fight will take place at middleweight, 15 pounds heavier than Chimaev’s recent fight against Li Jingliang at welterweight at UFC 267. Ahead of his wrestling main event against his UFC colleague Hermansson, Chimaev looks right at home at 185 pounds.

Check out Chimaev and Hermansson facing off below.

Khamzat Chimaev Is Coming Off Of Arguably The Best Fight Of His Career Against Li Jingliang At UFC 267

Chimaev has catapulted himself to UFC stardom with an undefeated record in MMA. In 2020, he earned three finishes within about two months at both welterweight and middleweight.

Chimaev could get a UFC title shot sooner rather than later. In the latest UFC rankings, he is listed as the No. 10 welterweight in the promotion. Fans are already starting to start conversations about how a Chimaev fight with Kamaru Usman would go down.

For now, Chimaev faces a tough test on the wrestling mat against Hermansson. A UFC middleweight contender, Hermansson is wrestling by trade and has smothered his opponents, most recently Edmen Shahbazyan in May.

Chimaev has shown off ferocious striking in the UFC but is also an elite grappler as he showed off against Jingliang. He took Jingliang to the ground with relative ease while at the same time attempting to have a full-on conversation with UFC president Dana White, who was sitting cageside.

The Chimaev vs. Hermansson wrestling event can be purchased for $9.99 on pay-per-view.
