Fight fans were left concerned after Irish megastar Conor McGregor appeared to be involuntarily spasming during an interview to promote Road House.
On March 21, McGregor made his feature film debut in a remake of the 1989 action classic. Originally starring Patrick Swayze, this updated version features Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.
Thus far, the film itself has received mostly favorable reviews with a solid 68% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 60% score from moviegoers. Many praised the entertaining fight sequences and overall comedic tone, particularly in the case of McGregor’s humorous yet badass antagonist, Knox.
As part of the promotion, the Irishman was interviewed by Sports Illustrated alongside his co-star. Certainly nothing out of the ordinary, but fans who caught the segment were quick to notice that McGregor appeared to be “tweaking” throughout.
Fans React to Conor McGregor’s ‘Tweaking’
Reacting to the above clip, fans offered a variety of responses on social media, many of them showing genuine concern for the former two-division UFC champion who is slated to make his return to the Octagon later this year.

The promotion for Conor McGregor’s feature film debut is getting interesting.
On Thursday, March 21, the Irishman goes from the Octagon to the silver screen when he stars alongside Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal in a remake of the 1989 action classic Road House.
To hype fans up for this week’s release, McGregor sat down with his co-star in one of Buzzfeed’s popular Puppy Interviews. Just past the nine-minute mark of the below embed, the pair compete in a friendly arm wrestling contest with the support of some furry friends.
Releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, this updated version of Road House features Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an “ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.” McGregor is set to play Knox, one of the movie’s antagonists.
Road House also stars Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad, Fast X), Billy Magnussen (Game Night, Velvet Buzzsaw, Aladdin), Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, and Grammy Award-winning music artist Post Malone.
Conor McGregor was asked to ‘turn the crazy down’ while filming road house
In an interview with The Au Review, McGregor revealed that he was asked to “turn the crazy down” but was given free rein to play around and modify the fight choreography.
“Yeah, it was a hell of a lot of fun! My first time doing it!” McGregor said. “I had an amazing cast to guide me and direct me, you know? Assist me. And they just told me to turn the crazy down a notch! So that was me turned down.
“We were given free rein to add… you know, we were allowed to be ourselves and they were very supportive of that. Gareth Warren and Steve Brown, who were the stunt guys who were co-ordinating the fighting scenes, if they laid the foundation and then we’d add a couple of blocks here and there, they would build us up and make us feel incredible. Then we just grew as a team. We had a great team. Very blessed and very happy and very proud that I got to deal with these people here.”
Thus far, Road House is holding strong at 68% on Rotten Tomatoes with 56 critics weighing in.

Road House, a remake of the 1989 action-thriller starring the late Patrick Swayze, is scheduled for a March 21 release on Amazon Prime Video. However, the film has found itself in a bit of hot water after a lawsuit filed against MGM Studios and its parent company, Amazon Studios, has left the movie’s anticipated streaming debut in jeopardy.
According to a report from Deadline, the copyright for Road House, previously owned by United Artists, is said to have reverted back to the original film’s screenwriter R. Lance Hill in November. The termination clause forced Amazon Studios to complete the project before a Nov. 10 deadline by any means necessary — including the alleged use of artificial intelligence.
“This case arises from Defendants’ blatant copyright infringement due to their willful failure to license the requisite motion picture and ancillary rights to Hill’s Screenplay underlying their derivative 2024 Remake as required by law,” attorney Marc Toberoff wrote in the 19-page complaint.
“Hill is further informed and believes and based thereon alleges that Defendants went so far as to take extreme measures to try to meet this deadline, at considerable additional cost, including by resorting to the use of AI during the 2023 strike of the Screen Actor’s Guild to replicate the voices of the 2024 Remake’s actors for purposes of Automatic Dialogue Replacement, all in knowing violation of the collective bargaining agreements of both SAG and the Director’s Guild of America to which Defendants were signatories.”
The remake, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and UFC megastar Conor McGregor in his feature film debut, has seen its fair share of controversy since going into production last year. Aside from being impacted by the lengthy SAG-AFTRA strike, longtime producer Joel Silver — who worked on the 1989 original — was unceremoniously booted from the production due to creative differences.
That was followed by the controversial decision to forego a theatrical release in favor of straight-to-streaming which led director Doug Liman to boycott the film altogether.
Amazon Studios issued a statement denying the allegations levied by Hill.
“The lawsuit filed by R. Lance Hill regarding ‘Road House’ today is completely without merit and numerous allegations are categorically false,” an Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson said in a statement. “The film does not use any AI in place of actors’ voices. We look forward to defending ourselves against these claims.”

The name … is Dalton
An official poster for the Road House remake along with details regarding its anticipated debut on Amazon Prime Video has been revealed.
The movie, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and former two-division UFC world champion Conor McGregor, will begin streaming on March 21, but fans will get their first glimpse of the film on Thursday (January 25) when the trailer drops online.
The Official Synopsis for ‘Road House’ Reveals Gyllenhaal’s New Version of Beloved Character
Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Brokeback Moutain) stars as the titular hero of the story, Dalton, who was played by Patrick Swayze in the original 1989 action/thriller. McGregor, who is noticeably absent from the poster, is expected to play ‘Knox,’ one of the film’s big bads. The official synopsis reads:
In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Fans of the original will likely spot a handful of easter eggs in the above poster, including a framed photo of Dalton’s three simple rules: 1) Expect the unexpected. 2) Take it outside. 3) Be nice. There’s also a Double Deuce shot glass on the counter, a reference to the original bar, and a piece of graffiti reading “For a great Buick, call 555-7616.” And, of course, they kept the original neon sign font.
There are a few more, but we’ll let you find those on your own.
Last year, a jacked Gyllenhaal made a surprise appearance at UFC 285 to shoot scenes for the film which included a fight inside the Octagon against co-star and MMA veteran Jay Hieron.

Ahead of Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor’s blockbuster “Roadhouse” remake, Dana White is pretty positive that Gyllenhaal might be on PEDs to aid his physique for the movie.
During UFC 285 fight week, the actor and former UFC fighter Jay Hieron filmed a face-off and even a fake UFC fight for the movie. Of course, Conor McGregor is slated to appear in the movie, and as a former double champion himself, he’s appeared in some real-life UFC fights.
Appearing at UFC 285’s weigh-ins to shoot the fake faceoff with Hieron and Gyllenhaal, McGregor himself made an appearance to describe what was going on and do some bragging about his acting prowess.
Dana White, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Conor McGregor detail “Roadhouse” movie
At the UFC 285 post-fight press conference, Dana White pointed out (in a joking manner) that Gyllenhaal was so obviously shredded that steroids or PEDs might be in use to aid in the actor’s physique for the movie. Such a thing is not very weird in the acting world. When you’re not a trained fighter going into the cage to inflict damage on another human, steroid usage can be viewed (by some) as an acceptable short-term boost to a physique. Of course, there’s no tangible proof that Gyllenhaal is on any sort of steroids or PEDs, and we at Lowkick MMA are not making claims of this at all.
“Listen, what can I say? He looks good,” Dana White said at the post-fight press conference. “I don’t think he’s been USADA tested, but he looks great.”
Conor McGregor himself made an appearance at the ceremonial weigh-ins to usher in Gyllenhaal’s fake faceoff with Hieron. The Irish UFC superstar is very proud of his role in this film and the money he’s getting paid for it.
On social media, McGregor would explain the money he’s making and the history that is apparently getting made. “I’m the highest-paid first-time actor of all time,” McGregor said. “Add that to the rest of all my accolades.”
“I fancy my chances topping this list in record time,” McGregor continued. “If the top gross off Liam’s film is $113m, as amazing as that is, my ‘Roadhouse’ trebles it. And more. I reckon half a billion in all. And I be chillin back with the calculator rockin alligator. ‘What can I do ya’s for’ #handy”
The fans were ecstatic to be a part of the movie and reacted as if what was happening on stage was indeed real and unscripted. When Jake Gyllenhaal slapped Jay Hieron during their fake faceoff, the crowd was so loud the roof seemed as if it could cave in at any moment.
So far, there is no official release date for the “Roadhouse” remake, but honestly, despite the shenanigans: it has decent chances of being exceptionally good with the likes of Gyllenhaal starring in it. Amazon Studios is currently the powerhouse behind the movie.
