Jeff Molina Gay Pride Shorts

Jeff Molina is so far seeming to be the next potential superstar to come off of Dana White’s Contender Series. Riding a ten-fight win streak, including three straight in the UFC. ‘El Jefe’ kept to his winning ways at UFC Vegas 56 and garnered the victory while wearing the UFC’s gay pride shorts.

Disgusted by the barbaric hate and ridicule he received for wearing the shorts, Jeff Molina opened up about the situation when questioned about it after the fights.

“You’re gonna get me riled up,” Molina began. “Dude, it’s fu*king ridiculous… Who the fu*k cares bro? Honestly, it’s not even about being an ally, I’m not saying I’m not, but it’s like, just be a decent person. Just be a decent human being…”

Jeff Molina Slams Critics, Explains Why He Chose the UFC’s Gay Pride Shorts to Wear

“Judging someone and trying to justify it with religion and saying all sorts of like spiteful, hateful sh*t is crazy to me, it’s mind-boggling. Who cares who someone wants to be with, or their sexual preference… And the irony of trying to justify it by religion, something that’s supposed to be so accepting… I was honestly shocked,” Jeff Molina continued.

“I picked the colors because I thought it looked cool, and then also because I thought it was a good cause… I’ll support anything of a community that’s been oppressed, and ostracized, for some time now. For something, they can’t help. It wasn’t that long ago there was like school segregation… That wasn’t (even) a whole person ago, this is recent sh*t.”

“I just thought in 2022, people would be more open-minded… Guess I was wrong…People were saying some crazy sh*t…Trying to justify it like: ‘God is going to send you to hell’… Like dude, mind your own business. It doesn’t concern you,” Molina concluded.

Does the Jeff Molina Gay Pride Shorts Debacle Hint at an Underlying Prejudice in MMA?

So, ‘El Jefe’ wore gay pride shorts at UFC Vegas 56, but what’s the big deal? That is the entire point of Jeff Molina’s statement. Why is it a big deal?

Well, some people would say sports aren’t very welcoming to the LGBTQ community. And, it wouldn’t be quite a stretch to say that MMA is probably the least welcoming. Why? Well, the answer to that could be a number of things. Prejudice is likely to be number one. But also, a big contributing factor is the sport itself. Which is fighting, also known as combat sports.

For example, one thing that has angered many is the thought of transgender athletes performing against non-transgender athletes. The biggest MMA example of this is when Alana McLaughlin (a natural-born male who transitioned to the opposite sex) fought a female non-transgender opponent and dominated her, despite a huge difference in MMA experience which McLaughlin had a lot less of.

This caused general outrage, as despite McLaughlin being transgender: many MMA fans chose to look at it as a fight between a man vs a woman. Which was deemed unacceptable by the masses.

So, while there are no excuses for hatred towards any race, religion, or person, it could be safe to say there’s a particular sore spot between MMA, transgender fighters, and maybe even the LGBTQ community as a whole.

Here at LowKick MMA, we do not discriminate against any race, religion, or sexual orientation, and we plead you also do not discriminate.

What are your thoughts on the hatred Jeff Molina received for wearing the UFC gay pride shorts, and do you think there’s an underlying prejudice in MMA towards the LGBTQ community?

UFC flyweight Jeff Molina was attacked by fans for repping Pride Month on his Venom gear, but he wasn’t having it.

The month of June marks Pride Month around the world, a month dedicated to supporting the LGBT community and advocating for equal rights. Some UFC fighters, including Molina, have opted to include the rainbow design on their gear for their upcoming fights.

In a recent tweet, Molina shared a supportive post showing off his new fight kit that represents the LGBT community.

“Pretty sick the [UFC] is letting us rep for pride month!!” Molina tweeted. “Get your pride gear [at the UFC store].”

Shortly after his first tweet, some fans criticized Molina for representing pride month on his UFC gear. He then hit back at the critics in a follow-up.

“To all the dudes sliding in my DM’s I’m a straight guy but pshhh I’m flattered!” Molina replied. “For all the homophobic dudes upset by me repping pride month on my fight kit y’all some fruit cups.”

Molina will face Zhalgas Zhumagulov this weekend at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card will be headlined by a heavyweight matchup between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Volkov.

Molina most recently defeated Daniel da Silva last October following a debut win over Aoriqileng at UFC 261.

Molina continues to be one of the most prominent social media voices in the UFC community, and he’s unbothered by some fans who feel his support of Pride Month isn’t warranted.

Jeff Molina is a born fighter. From the time he was in his teens, Molina knew that he wanted to achieve his ultimate goal of fighting in Mixed Martial Arts’ biggest stage: the UFC.

After earning a UFC contract by defeating Jacob Silva on Dana White‘s Contender Series and his unanimous decision victory over Aori Qileng at UFC 261, it appears that “El Jefe” is in the perfect spot in his life and career.

In defeating Qileng on Saturday in Jacksonville, Molina earned Fight of the Night from UFC president Dana White and brought home an extra $50,000 for his efforts in the octagon. The 23-year-old said he wants to be smart about the extra cash and that he spoke with White about the fight beforehand, telling the boss to not miss it.

“I tapped him on the shoulder at the weigh-ins and said ‘Hey man, I heard you watch the early-prelims from a room? Don’t miss this one.’,” Molina told LowKickMMA. “The callout for the bonus after the fight wasn’t planned, I was just going off my intuition.”

It’s no surprise that Molina has garnered the attention of UFC fans from around the world with his quick rise in the flyweight division. Training at Glory MMA in Kansas City, Molina has basked in the knowledge he’s gained from veterans such as women’s flyweight Gina Mazany, fellow flyweight Tim Elliott and head coach James Krause.

Molina singled-out Krause when dishing out credit for his victory during his post-fight press conference, and the glowing reviews continued a few days removed from the fight.

“No other coach has put in the time with his guys and showed the amount of improvement with his team,” Molina said. “We still got a lot of the year left to go, and it’s only going to go up from here.”

Molina’s family went wild after he earned the victory, including his father; who is currently battling kidney cancer. Through the trials and tribulations that he and his family have underwent, Molina is glad to have put on a performance that made them proud.

“They were the first people I facetimed after the fight in my hotel,” Molina said. “They were on Cloud-9. They’ve seen the sacrifices I’ve made for this sport and they were so proud of me. That means a lot.”

Molina also said he wants to repay his family going forward with his UFC career and believes he’ll be a champion one day.

In terms of what’s next for the up-and-coming flyweight prospect, he wants to fight in late-July/early-August and compete against the winner of Ryan Benoit and Zarrukh Adashev, who fight on May 8th in a UFC Fight Night event.

“I wanna stay active, I wanna fight at least 3 times this year,” Molina said. “I got a couple of injuries I gotta get checked out, but yeah I wanna stay active. I’d love to fight the winner of Zarrukh Adashev and Ryan Benoit. I’m familiar with both of their styles. So maybe late-July, early-August.”

What are your thoughts on Jeff Molina’s Fight of the Night performance at UFC 261, and where the 23-year-old fits in to the reborn flyweight division?

UFC 261 ended up being one of the most eventful nights in UFC history, with incredible finishes and back-and-forth wars aplenty. There were plenty of incredible performances; including knockouts from Kamaru Usman and Rose Namajunas in their title fights.

UFC president Dana White had his work cut out for him afterwards in figuring out who would get bonuses for their efforts; handing out four $50,000 post-fight bonuses.

Performance of the Night: Kamaru Usman

Usman earned a bonus for a sensational knockout victory in Round 2 in his rematch with Jorge Masvidal.

The two fighters went back-and-forth in the first round, with “The Nigerian Nightmare” showing patience on the feet and scoring a big takedown just a couple minutes into the fight. Masvidal showed great prowess with his leg kicks and caught Usman a few times with his signature right hook.

The second round ended up telling a different story. Usman came out of his corner firing on all cylinders in the striking facet and just barely a missed a couple of early big punches. After Masvidal appeared to laugh off Usman’s advance, the welterweight champion threw a massive 1-2 punch combo that sent “Gamebred” to the canvas; knocking him out cold.

Performance of the Night: Rose Namajunas

Former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas looked to regain her throne in her matchup with the always dangerous strawweight queen Zhang Weili.

Weili was making her first title defense since her epic war with Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 last year. Namajunas was coming off a big win against Jessica Andrade in their rematch of an earlier title fight.

The former champ was largely looked at as the underdog against Weili, but shut the conversation down in a hurry in scoring a massive knockout with a first-round head kick. Weili protested the stoppage right after the fight was called, but Namajunas earned the win and the beginning of her second reign as UFC strawweight champion.

Fight of the Night: Jeff Molina vs. Aori Qileng

There were plenty of fights for White to choose from when it came to Fight of the Night, but it ended up going to one of the greatest early-prelim bouts in recent memory between flyweights Jeff Molina and Aori Qileng.

It was a back-and-forth affair over 15 minutes and a tough fight for the judges to call at the end. Molina landed just a little over 200 strikes against Qileng and went home with the unanimous decision win.

In his postfight interview with Joe Rogan, Molina directly called out White for a bonus, and the boss gave the rising flyweight prospect what he wanted; and deservedly so.

Do you agree with the bonuses handed out by UFC president Dana White following UFC 261?
