Back in October, former UFC fighter Luis Peña was arrested in Broward County Florida for charges of domestic violence and battery. Peña was taken into police custody for the second time in just a couple of months. He was arrested back in June for battery and robbery. He was arrested a third time in November for misdemeanor battery & misdemeanor criminal mischief.
On Friday, June 10, Luis Peña put in a plea of not guilty for the crimes he is accused of stemming from the October arrest. At the time of arrest on October 9, the police released a statement of the ordeal, which was published by MMA Junkie.
“On the above date and time, the above defendant was involved in a physical altercation with (redacted) whom he had been in an intimate relationship with for the last 1 1/2 years. (redacted) and (redacted) both provided sworn statements that attested to the above information, and BWC was in use and injuries were photographed.”
Shortly after the October arrest, Luis Peña was released from the UFC. He first came to the promotion as a member of The Ultimate Fighter season 27. He finished his UFC run with five wins in the organization.
Following his loss and despite the legal issue, Peñais now signed to Titan FC and has won two fights there. Pena spoke out recently on his UFC release and his many legal issues over the last year. Pena is maintaining his innocence and the date of his next court appearance is not yet public knowledge.

Luis Peña has finally opened up about his release from the UFC following his string of legal issues.
Peña was let go by the UFC in October after his second arrest of the year. The former Ultimate Fighter competitor was arrested in June of 2021 for strong-armed robbery, battery, and criminal mischief. In October, he was again arrested for allegedly striking two women, one of them, his girlfriend.
Speaking to MMA Sucka, Peña was asked about his release from the UFC following his string of legal issues, and if he’s fine with how everything played out. Peña explained that he wasn’t sure how he expected things to play out. He simply adjusted to everything on the fly.
“I mean, I wasn’t necessarily fine with it,” Luis Peña said. “But at the same time, I didn’t really expect them to go digging. I don’t really know how I expected everything to be handled.
“Because I didn’t expect everything to happen. I maintained my innocence throughout everything so I didn’t really see any of this coming. I didn’t know how to expect — the reaction and everything, which has been colorful, to say the least. I didn’t really know how to deal with everything. I was kind of learning and adjusting on the fly.”
Peña Unaffected By The Backlash
Of course, in the aftermath of all that has happened, Peña, as expected, was met with a lot of backlash online. “Violent Bob Ross” said there’s not a day that goes by where he’s not met with criticism, but he knows in his heart what truly happened, so he doesn’t let the hearsay affect him.
“I saw it, don’t get me wrong. I see it every day. I would say there’s not a day I don’t go by where I don’t see something on Instagram or Facebook from somebody trying to call me some terrible name or something like that from everything. I mean, I see it all, I don’t care.
“I really don’t care about it, you know. There was a point where it was like, ‘Man, this kind of sucks.’ There was even a point earlier in my career when I would get sh*t-talked and it would really affect me.
“Now it’s like — when you know what the people are saying about you isn’t true, it really doesn’t affect you at all.”
Luis Peña will step into the cage for Titan FC against Zach Zane on May 6 for Titan FC 76 in Miami, Florida. It’s his first fight in over a year since his last bout in the UFC. With fight week here, Peña is sure to be asked a lot of questions about his legal issues, but he doesn’t seem too worried about what may or may not be made from those answers.
“Not really. Like I said, when you know you didn’t do something, it’s not a thing to you,” Pena said. “I’m not worried about any of the questions that are going to come up, I’m not worried about anything anyone could say about me.
“I know what happened and I know the truth behind all of this. So it’s not a big deal to me as far as what could possibly come up. At the end of the day, for me, it’s just another week, it’s just another day. It’s a fight.”
Former UFC fighter Luis Peña isn’t having problems getting fights despite his slew of recent legal issues. Peña will compete in main events in Titan FC and ACA with just weeks in between in May. He’s booked to face Zach Zane in a catchweight 160lb main event at Titan FC 76 on May 6, before…

Peña will compete in main events in Titan FC and ACA with just weeks in between in May. He’s booked to face Zach Zane in a catchweight 160lb main event at Titan FC 76 on May 6, before making the quick turnaround against Eduard Vartanyan at ACA 139 on May 21.
Peña was arrested on three different occasions in 2021. He was arrested for two charges of misdemeanor battery and criminal mischief back in November following an incident in Broward County, FL.
A month before, Peña was charged with felony domestic violence and battery following an incident with Peña’s girlfriend and another woman. He was released from the UFC shortly after his arrest.
In June 2021, Peña was arrested for robbery by sudden snatching, battery, and criminal mischief following an altercation with his girlfriend.
Peña last fought at a UFC Fight Night event against Alex Munoz in April 2021, earning a split-decision win. Before that, he had lost two of his previous three fights against the likes of lightweights Khama Worthy and Matt Frevola.
Peña earned a shot in the UFC following a successful run on The Ultimate Fighter 27. He defeated Jose Martinez Jr. via a unanimous decision during the show before earning a first-round submission over Richie Smullen in the Finale.
Peña will look to improve on his 9-3 record with his pair of booked fights in May.

Now, Peña took to Instagram to reveal he has a fight booked that will see him compete for the first time since his release. He didn’t reveal what promotion he will be fighting for or who he will be facing.
“And like that we’re back, almost a year to the day of my last fight, I will make my return to competition and fight outside of America for the first time in my career as well. The opponent has been found, the contract has been signed, and the date is set huge thank you @rogerdkrahl and @alexdavismma for helping make this happen. #fromrussiawithlove,” Peña wrote on Instagram.
Following his arrests, the UFC released Luis Peña and said they wanted to see him get the help he needs. It’s uncertain what he has done since the release, but he is apparently ready to fight again.
“At this time, UFC believes Mr. Peña needs to deal with the health and legal issues in front of him, and consequently has informed Mr. Peña’s management that his promotional agreement has been terminated,” the UFC’s statement read.
Dana White also made it clear he had to release Peña after hearing and reading about what happened.
“This was a bad case,” UFC president Dana White said. “We knew that he had problems before that we were trying to help him with. And this is a pretty nasty one. I don’t know if you guys read the police report, but yeah. This one had to happen.”
Luis Peña is currently 9-3 as a pro and coming off a split decision win over Alexander Munoz last April.
