Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko (31-4, 1NC) will attempt to end a three fight losing skid in November when he faces long time mma vet Jeff ‘The Snowman’ Monson (42-12) in Russia.
M-1 Global Pres Vadim Finkelstein announced last weekend that ‘The Last Emporer’ would avoid retirement by fighting again in his native homeland in “late fall”.
Monson confirmed that was to be Fedor’s upcoming opponent for the event on Twitter (@JeffMonson) late Tuesday evening.
– Nov 12th vs Fedor in Russia M-1 confirmed
‘The Snowman’ also noted that he will be in Russia for the 16th of September for a press conference to officially announce the bout, and that Russian leader Vladimir Putin would also be present.
Fedor was recently released by Strikeforce after his third straight loss, this most recent defeat came at the hands of Dan Henderson on July 30. The other two losses include stoppages by Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva and Fabricio Werdum, while the only victory in a Strikeforce cage came against Brett Rogers back in November 2009.
Monson has been trying to work his way back into the spotlight, having an eight fight win streak ended by Daniel Cormier in June at the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum show. That bout marked his Strikeforce debut, which saw him lose to the, now Grand Prix tournament semi-finalist, by unanimous decision. Monson was a late replacement for Shane del Rosario at the Dallas show.

Heavyweight icon, Fedor Emelianenko (31-4, 1NC) will fight in his homeland of Russia sometime this fall according to manager, and M-1 Global President, Vadim Finkelstein.
A report from M-1Global.com, from Finkelstein, has the former No. 1 heavyweight agreeing to a bout in late fall against an unnamed opponent at an unnamed event, not vague at all.
“Fedor is going to fight in late fall in Russia, we have already reached all the necessary agreements on his fight”
Date, place and opponent will be announced soon.
This will be Fedor’s first pro-fight in Russia since April of 2007, where he earned a first round submission win over Matt Lindland at a BodogFight: Clash of Nations event.
The Russian has run into some hard times, suffering three straight losses which has seen him released by the Strikeforce promotion.
The first defeat in that streak was to Fabricio Werdum via triangle choke in June of 2010, then to Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in February of this year via second round TKO (Doctor Stoppage) in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarterfinals, and finally a first round TKO loss to Dan Henderson in July.

Press Release – NEW YORK (June 15, 2011): M-1 GLOBAL in association with Roy Englebrecht Promotions announced today an upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event titled M-1 Challenge: Bennett vs. Garner featuring the rematch between the 2010 M-1 Selection Americas Tournament heavyweight finalists Pat Bennett (4-2) and Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner (6-3). The bouts from The Hangar in Costa Mesa, California will air LIVE on SHOWTIME on Friday, July 8 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (Delayed on the West Coast).
“The rematch between Bennett and Garner has been in the works since last year; it’s a fight Pat has asked for specifically and both men are prepared to put on a show. This entire card is expected to be extremely entertaining from start to finish.” said Vadim Finkelchtein, co-founder of M-1 GLOBAL. “This will be our second event with SHOWTIME; there is no better TV network for M-1 than SHOWTIME and no better market to seriously compete in than the U.S.”
Tickets are priced at $75 for the front row and all other seats at $50 and can be purchased online at www.fightcluboc.com, or by calling Roy Englebrecht Promotions at (949) 760-3131.
Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner steps in to replace the injured M-1 Global Heavyweight Champion, Guram Gugenishvili; Garner last faced Bennett in the 2010 M-1 Selection Americas tournament finals, where he won a convincing first-round TKO.
Garner is best known for his relentless self-marketing which he backs up with one-punch power as evidenced by his four knockout wins. Hidden behind the heavy leather is also a potent submission arsenal and solid wrestling base which makes this rematch a potentially explosive outing for both men.
“I’ll fight anyone, anytime for M-1 GLOBAL,” said Garner. “I’ve got to do better than what I’ve done before and this is my opportunity to chase down my belt! I’ve been training hard and I’m not losing to Pat Bennett; he’s not making it out of the first round.”
Known for his wrestling skills, Bennett has proven to be a multidimensional mixed martial artist able to transition into a dangerous striker at will. Capable of managing larger opponents thanks to his versatile background and heavy-handed striking, this New Jersey native is primed to secure redemption against Garner.
An optimistic Bennett spoke with energy; “This is an opportunity to avenge my loss to Kenny and it’s a fight I’ve wanted badly. He’s the only one on my mind and I’ve got a point to prove.”

Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko (31-3, 1NC) is currently training in the Netherlands, brushing up on his Muay Thai skills in anticipation of his next bout which is expected to take place in July.
The M-1 Global/Strikeforce fighter moved his training camp to the Netherlands following his recent February loss to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in their opening Strikeforce Grand Prix tournament bout. It was the second loss in the row for the Russian.
Many have attributed part of that loss to the size difference between the two fighters, with Fedor weighing in at 230 lbs, while his opponent, who hit the scales at 265 lbs likely weighed 280+ by the time of the fight. Fans and critics have called for their favorite fighter to make a drop in weight to fight at light heavyweight.
In an interview with MixFight.NL, courtesy of CagePotato.com, Fedor stated that “Bigfoot’s” size was not a factor in the loss and says he hasn’t been approached about dropping weight.
In February you fought Antonio “Big Foot” Silva. It seemed you had a problem with his size and weight advantage. Looking back, was this the reason you lost the fight? No i don’t think so, it was not the size or weight advantage that caused my loss. Its just a fight and anything can happen. The gameplan did not worked out the way i wanted it. But the weight was definitely not the reason.
Do you consider dropping to light heavyweight? And possibly fight Dan Henderson for the light heavyweight title? Yes i have talked about it with my manager Vadim Finklestein. But as far as i know, there is no offer made by Strikeforce to fight as a light heavyweight.
At the end of the fight against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva you announced that you might retire. You are now back in training and seemed motivated. How do you feel about it now? For me it was a dissapointed moment when i lost the fight against Antonio Silva. It was not a moment of weakness but at that particular moment it was the way i felt. Back in Russia i talked about it with my management and my spiritual father and my decision now to continue fighting.

Just a note about the photo below, doesn’t Fedor look small compared to everyone else? I’m sure he’s just standing further back but it’s obvious to me that he needs to drop to 205 lbs if he wants to find success in his future.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has confirmed that “The Last Emporer” will fight in July against an unnamed opponent.
This is the first time in many years that Fedor has left his home in Stary Oskol, Russia to train. Now a report from MMA-Japan.com has confirmed with sources close to M-1 that former “The Ultimate Fighter” season 8 finalist, Vinny “Pezao” Magalhães (7-5, 1 NC), will join Fedor in either Holland or Russia to train.
Sources close to M-1 have confirmed to MMA-JAPAN that TUF veteran and recent M-1 Global signee Vinny Magalhaes has in fact been invited to help The Last Emperor sharpen his jiu jitsu skills. Magalhaes will join Fedor in either Russia or Holland (destination TBD). The addition of Magalhaes to Emelianenko’s camp should be very beneficial to the Russian pound for pound great. His ground game has been his Magalhaes is coming off a successful M-1 showing where he made quick work of Jake Doerr. Emelianenko will return to the cage this summer, likely in July, against an opponent to be decided.
Magalhães is a noted Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who has won many championships in the sport, including the 2007 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship (no gi), as well as taking Bronze in two categories at the 2009 ADCC championships. The Brazilian made his UFC debut as a member of Team Mir in the shows Finale, losing to Team Nogueira fighter Ryan Bader. He would go on to lose a second straight bout against fellow cast member Eliot Marshall at UFC 97 ending his time with the UFC.
Currently Magalhães earned his third straight win on Friday night on the Showtime televised card of the M-1 Challenge 24 event in Norfolk, Virginia.
