Henry Cejudo has responded to Dominick Cruz and Marlon Vera’s recent performance enhancing drug (PED) accusations against him.

Cejudo took to his podcast, “Triple C & Schmo Show,” to respond to the recent comments made by Cruz and Vera. Cruz suggested Cejudo could be using PEDs during a recent interview on The MMA Hour. Vera did the same while being interviewed by Schmo himself.

“Triple C” said he finds the accusations funny, especially since he’s been tested by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) since he was a teenager.

“It’s funny to me. I don’t even get offended by this. It’s funny to me. … Come on, man! I’ve been tested by USADA [United States Anti-Doping Agency] for the last… since I was a 17-year-old kid.

“I’m almost 20 years in the d*mn business, man. Like, you know what I’m saying? That’s stupid. Dominick ‘Snooze’, this is how Floyd Mayweather sued Manny Pacquiao for defamation of character.

“So you and that ugly a** ‘Chito’ Vera [should] be careful with what you guys say.”

Cejudo also took to Twitter for a follow-up comment on the accusations, saying he finds them flattering.

Cejudo officially retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) in May of 2020 after defeating Cruz to retain his bantamweight championship. He finished Cruz in the second round via knockout. Now, however, Cejudo seems to be contemplating a return to action.

Currently, the division is run by Aljamain Sterling, who unified his title with interim champion Petr Yan earlier this month with a split decision win.

Should Cejudo continue to be tested by USADA successfully in the next few months, a return to the title picture could very well be a possibility.

Marlon Vera and Petr Yan can’t seem to come to an agreement on when they’d like to meet inside the Octagon.

Vera has been very vocal about wanting a fight with Yan next, feeling it’s the best available match up that could propel him into title contention. However, Vera seems to want to fight Yan as soon as August.

Yan, on the other hand, wants to wait a bit longer. The pair recently exchanged barbs about a potential fight date on Twitter. Vera took a jab at Yan for turning down an August date, while Yan responded saying the former will have to settle for a September of October slot.

The anticipation on Vera’s end is certainly understandable. He’s the No. 5-ranked bantamweight in the UFC and is currently on a three-fight win streak.

A potential victory over a former champion in Yan would make Vera hard to deny in regards to a title opportunity.

Yan, on the other hand, will now need to start his journey back to the gold. He recently lost his title unification match up with Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273 this past April. Yan was bested via split decision.

Should Yan be able to pull off an impressive win over a streaking contender such as Vera, however, it would likely shorten his wait in line for another 135-pound title shot.

What do you think about the back and forth between Marlon Vera and Petr Yan? Who are you picking in a potential bout? Sound off in the comments!

UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Vera has his sights set on former champion Petr Yan next, believing a win over the Russian will secure him a title shot.

Vera became the latest addition to a stacked 135-pound championship picture late last month. After avenging a previous defeat to Davey Grant and recording a memorable knockout against Frankie Edgar in 2021, “Chito” entered this year with a main event debut in store.

At UFC Vegas 53, Vera headlined opposite top contender Rob Font. In mightily impressive fashion, the Ecuadorian dominated across the five rounds, coming inches from a finish in practically every round other than a tentative opener.

After 25 minutes of action, Vera left the Octagon with a unanimous decision victory added to his record, as well as a place in the top five secured.

Now, having joined the upper echelons at bantamweight, the 29-year-old believes he is just one more victory away from earning a shot at gold, which is currently held by Aljamain Sterling.

And who’s the opponent he needs to get through to earn the opportunity? Well, according to “Chito,” the man recently defeated by the reigning king.

During an interview with The Schmo, Vera outlined his plans moving forward. Despite previously advocating for a long-awaited matchup with Dominick Cruz, it seems that the Ecuadorian has lost hope of that coming to fruition, instead turning his attention to former undisputed and interim titleholder Yan.

“We’re right there. We’re literally one win away from fighting for that belt. So, I hope we get it done with Yan,” said Vera. “I think that’s the path to the belt. Number one contender, we kick his ass, and we move forward… (Dominick Cruz) don’t want the smoke, well, we move forward. Yan wants it, he gets it. I stop Yan and I get a title shot.”

As well as Vera’s interest in the booking, Yan has also expressed a desire to share the cage with “Chito.” In the immediate aftermath of the Ecuadorian’s victory over Font, the #1-ranked contender took to Twitter to give Vera credit for his performance, hinting that they may meet in the Octagon soon.

Dominick Cruz has responded to Marlon Vera’s recent taunts.

Recently, Vera called Cruz a “pu**y” for not accepting a fight with him in the past. Vera claims that Cruz declined to fight him several times. Now, Cruz has responded to Vera’s claims during an appearance on the UFC Unfiltered podcast.

“The Dominator” said he takes no offense to Vera’s words and considers his latest comments to be a bit hypocritical.

“Chito’s calling me out multiple times, and I don’t take offense to that. I get why he’s doing it. He wants to move up.

“But what I thought was so hilarious was one of the things he said is, ‘You’ve been saying you want to fight people above you. Well, now I’m above you.’

“But then after he gets done with the fight, he calls me a pussy, and then goes ahead and calls out the top 4 above him and nobody underneath him, which is the exact same thing I’ve been saying. So if I’m that, then the pot calling the kettle black on that one.”

Cruz (#8) is currently on a two-fight win streak since suffering his last loss to Henry Cejudo in May of 2020. The former bantamweight king is hoping to continue to climb the ranks and get back in the title conversation.

As for Vera, he’s currently the No. 5-ranked bantamweight in the UFC. After putting together a three-fight win streak against the likes of Frankie Edgar and Rob Font, Vera could be a fight or two away from a title opportunity.

A win over a former champion the caliber of Cruz would certainly propel him into title contention.

Davey Grant

When Davey Grant steps into the Octagon at UFC Vegas 54, he hopes it will be the beginning of a winning streak that leads to a trilogy bout with Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.

Grant (11-6-0) will be attempting to get back into the win column for the first time in over a year when he faces Louis Smolka on Saturday. When Grant and Vera first squared off, it was in February 2016, three years removed from Grant’s stint on season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter. Grant earned the victory via unanimous decision.

Fast forward five years, Grant and Vera would meet once again in June 2021. In the rematch, Vera would even the score with a unanimous decision win of his own.

Davey Grant Speaks on a Potential Trilogy Bout with Marlon Vera

While speaking with Mirror Fighting, Davey Grant expressed a desire to complete the trilogy, but recognizes that much work needs to be done to earn that opportunity.

“That would be great to go and get the rubber match on,” Grant said. “I beat him first time and then he won the rematch. I’m sure he would be up for it, the only thing is the trajectory of his career has gone up so much since we fought. I probably need to win my next three fights and one of those has to be against a guy ranked in the top ten in order for that fight to make sense again.

“From my point of view, I definitely want to get that on. I’m sure he would as it would be a big fight. The last one between us was a good fight, we’re one and one, it makes sense. I’m just going to try and work my way up to that.”

At 36 years old, Davey Grant recognizes that he is on the back-end of his combat sports career that started in 2008. Throughout his career, Grant has had his ups and downs, but has always valued being a “barnstormer” in the Octagon rather than a fighter who just wins fights.

Despite holding a record of 4-5 in the UFC, Grant has been a fan favorite for his balls-to-the-wall style of fighting. Fans no doubt would love to see a third meeting between Davey Grant and Marlon Vera, but ‘Dangerous’ has quite the hill to climb if he hopes to face the #5 ranked bantamweight in the world and it all starts with Louis Smolka on Saturday.
