MMA fighter and full-time firefighter Jessie Henry passed away last weekend due to injuries sustained from a tragic, on-duty accident.

Henry worked as a firefighter for South Bossier Fire District 2 Station No. 4. On the night of Saturday, December 18, Henry was working on a fire truck tire. Then, without warning, the tire exploded.

“The inner rim of the tire popped off of the wheel itself and chrome wheel simulator — basically a chrome hub cap inside of that wheel — struck him, and he was blown approximately 20 feet,” said Gray Young, chief of training for South Bossier Fire District 2.

He was rushed to Ochsner LSU hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries. He was 28.

Prior to becoming a firefighter, Henry served in the U.S. Army for four years and was also an active member of the Army Reserves. He had been working as a firefighter since 2017.

“Jessie was a brilliant firefighter and recently started his dream of becoming a paramedic and was studying to continue his certification for fire,” said Young.

As an MMA fighter, Henry went 2-2. His career began last year, and his most recent bout was in May at American Kombat Alliance 15 against Craig Grove. His last victory came in April over Andy Carrington at American Kombat Alliance 14, where Henry earned the split-decision victory.

Henry is survived by his 9-year-old daughter, Karmen. His funeral will take place one week from today, December 29, at the Hirsch Coliseum at 10:00 AM.

Chris Roman, Roxanne Modafferi

MMA fighter Chris Roman experienced the highs and lows of the fight game—and life— at Titan FC 73 on Friday night.

Roman was looking to win a third-straight fight when pitted against Asa Ten Pow in a featherweight bout on the card. But just seconds into the fight, Pow landed an illegal knee that knocked Roman unconscious, ending the bout immediately.

The bout was later ruled a no-contest, as Pow’s knee was clearly to a grounded Roman.

Check out a clip of the exchange below.

Chris Roman Turns Illegal Knockout Into A Memorable Night

After lying unconscious for a considerable amount of time, Roman managed to get back up to his feet and find his longtime girlfriend, UFC flyweight Roxanne Modafferi. Roman and Modafferi managed to turn the night around when Roman proposed to her in the middle of the Titan FC cage.

Following the incredible moment, Modafferi took to her Instagram to talk about her and Roman’s moment at Titan FC.

“My boyfriend took an illegal knee at 21 seconds into the fight and it got called a no-contest,” Modafferi said of Roman. “I’m sad for Chris that he didn’t get as much fight time, but then he proposed!

“I love you for the rest of our lives, Chris Roman!! The fight result sucked but it was kinda epic you proposed on a national broadcast.”

Roman has a 3-3 professional record in MMA and appears to be doing just fine despite the unfortunate ending to his fight at Titan FC 73. Modafferi will face Casey O’Neill in the last fight of her career at UFC 271 before retiring and moving on to the next chapter of her life with Roman.

What are your thoughts on Chris Roman’s wild Friday night?

MMA Vomit

An MMA fighter recently lost a fight in quite the sudden and unexpected manner— vomiting.

Week after week, one thing we continue to learn about this sport of ours is that anything can happen on any given night and anywhere around the world. Yet another example of this was provided at the Fighting Alliance Championship 11 event on December 10 in Independence, Missouri.

In the second bout of the night, flyweights Justin Little and Van San competed in an amateur MMA bout. Fans in attendance were still getting settled in for the evening when something quite unsettling took place.

Van San landed a push kick to the body, prompting Little to vomit. This brought an automatic end to the bout, awarding Van San the TKO victory. You can peep the finish yourself below.

“Push kick, the vomit, that is a medical TKO. Automatic stoppage under the Unified Rules of MMA. Vomit equals an immediate medical TKO,” the commentator stated.

With the win, Van San moves to 3-1 in his amateur record, while Justin Little falls to 0-3.

You can check out the full Fighting Alliance Championship 11 results right here.

Professional MMA fighter Akmal Khozhiev has pleaded not guilty by reasons of mental illness/defect to the murder of a doctor after a dispute about COVID-19 vaccines.

The 3-1 MMA fighter was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 7, by the Guam Police Department. According to a report from The Guam Daily Post, Khozhiev was charged with aggravated murder as a first-degree felony and aggravated assault as a second-degree felony.

Dr. Miran Ribati, 42, was a local radiologist for Guam Memorial Hospital. According to a witness, Khozhiev and Ribati knew each other because they both exercised at the same gym. The witness also informed police that the two may have returned home for dinner after spending time at the beach. Court documents revealed the pair of men began arguing over COVID-19 vaccinations.

When the argument heated up, Khozhiev is alleged to have put Ribati in a rear-naked choke before a bystander broke it up. After getting involved, the witness was struck in the head twice. At which point, Khozhiev went into the house and retrieved a sharp animal bone that was left over from an evening meal.

While Ribati tried to run away, Khozhiev caught up to him and repeatedly stabbed him in the neck with the animal bone.

Police responded to the scene, where Ribati was lying in a pool of his own blood. After witnessing the gruesome discovery, Khozhiev immediately confessed to the murder.

“Sir, it’s me, it’s me, I killed him,” Khozhiev allegedly told police before being arrested.

Akmal Khozhiev Appears In Court

During Khozhiev’s most recent court appearance this month, Superior Court of Guam Magistrate Judge Jonathan Quan ordered that he must undergo a forensic evaluation to determine if he is fit to stand trial.

Khozhiev is currently being held in prison on a $1 million cash bail. The welterweight last competed in 2020 after earning a ground-and-pound victory against Jose Ramirez.

Below, you can find the news coverage of this story provided by KUAM News, with friends of Khozhiev sharing their thoughts on him and the days leading up to the tragic incident.

Michigan Football Coach Brady Hoke Says He Would Have Been an MMA Fighter if the Sport Was Around 35 Years Ago

Michigan Head Coach Brady Hoke Says He Would Have Been an MMA Fi – Watch MoreFunny Videos

We’ve all met a guy at the gym or local watering hole who “would have” or “could have” dominated as an MMA fighter if his damn bum knee hadn’t ended his flourishing career before it even started. Back at Polk high he was a wrestling superstar, so why wouldn’t he have cleaned up at UFC 1?

Well, it’s not just the random out of shape dude at the bar who does play-by-play during UFC pay-per-views that could have been a contender anymore. Pseudo-celebrities are getting in on the action too, and we’re not talking about Steven Seagal or Wesley Snipes.

While making an appearance on the Dan Patrick radio show this week University of Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke was asked by the host who would win in a fight between him and longtime nemesis and recently-named Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.

While making an appearance on the Dan Patrick radio show this week University of Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke was asked by the host who would win in a fight between him and longtime nemesis and recently-named Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.

“Ummm….you know what, he may be sneakier than I am,” Hoke replied with a chuckle.

He then made the dubious claim that if the sport was around back in the mid seventies when he graduated high school, he probably would have become a fighter — you know, like it’s that easy.

“Believe me, when I was coming out of high school, if they’d have had MMA, I may have gone that route [instead of college],” Hoke said.

If that assertion wasn’t bad enough, he went on to say that he wouldn’t be afraid to fight anyone in the Octagon.

“I don’t know why you would be,” Hoke stated, matter-of-factly.

Let’s but him in a cage with Cris Cyborg and we’ll see if he changes his tune when the fight ends a few seconds later.
