If Nate Marquardt still had any fans out there, he likely lost them on Saturday night after casually delivering a homophobic anti-LGBTQ tweet.

Like many MMA fans, Nate Marquardt appeared to be enjoying a night of fights as the UFC presented its latest offering from The APEX in Las Vegas. However, it wasn’t any of the evening’s results that triggered an irrational response from the former middleweight title challenger. Instead, Marquardt went into full-blown panic mode when his children apparently caught a glimpse of two grown adult males engaging in a consensual kiss during a commercial break. Marquardt’s antiquated views on love and lack of general human decency forced him to do what has become the norm in recent years; complain about it on Twitter.

“Wow disgusting commercial watching @ESPNPlus with my kids and have to tell them to look away so they don’t see two men kissing! @ufc @espn #barf #disgusting,” Marquardt tweeted.

Fans Respond to Nate Marquardt’s Ignorant Comments on Twitter

Nate Marquardt doubled down on his initial tweet and continues to do so, engaging with other Twitter users who were understandably disgusted by his ignorant comment. When one user suggested Marquardt allow his children to decide who they are for themselves rather than cramming his anti-gay rhetoric down their throats, Marquardt responded by calling homosexuality a “rebellion to God.”

“That is some twisted thinking. You are in rebellion to your Creator. God made man and woman to go together. It’s obvious. Homosexuality is rebellion to God. That’s why it is disgusting. It’s not natural and it’s obviously wrong and bad for society, eg. HIV, AIDS, psycholgcal, etc”

Other users responding on Twitter were a little more scathing with their replies, one suggesting that maybe Marquardt is hiding some deep personal feelings with his anti-gay agenda.

“This is the kind message that KKK members pass down to their kids to make them racist like their parents. Maybe you are hiding behind religion to suppress your own feelings, you have spent more then half your life rolling around with sweaty men!”

Another Twitter user echoed similar sentiments tweeting, “100% Most people that talk like this have serious skeletons in their closet.”

Other users decided to take a dig at Nate Marquardt’s history of banned substances during the peak of his UFC career.

“The irony of you talking about things that are “not natural” considering you got caught cheating using steroids.”

“Quotes the Bible when degrading consenting adults. Forgets the Bible when taking drugs for an unfair & illegal deadly advantage in competition. A sick cheater who could have killed someone judging people for who they want to love. A massive hypocrite & Cafeteria Christian.”

Nate Marquardt’s comeback was derailed last night when he squared off against Valdir Araujo at XMMA 3 in Miami.

The Strikeforce champion was dropped early and survived a guillotine attempt before he got on top in round one. Marquardt unleashed some nasty ground strikes towards the end of the first frame that badly cut his opponent.

Despite entering round two with blood pouring from his face Araujo was able to close the show in impressive fashion. The Brazilian dropped Marquart with a combination before following up on the floor to force the referee to wave off the fight.

Araujo improves his record to 18-9 and snapped a two-fight losing skid with what was undoubtedly the biggest win of his career. Marquardt drops to 36-20-2 with this defeat which is the UFC veteran’s seventh in his last 10 fights. Check out the finishing sequence below.

The 42-year-old squared off against Michael Cora (5-6) and made quick work of the man he has five times as much experience as but it wasn’t all plain sailing.

About 90 seconds into the fight Cora let a barrage of punches fly that send Marquardt tumbling to the mat. The inexperienced fighter jumped into the guard of Marquardt and that proved to be a costly mistake. Soon after, the former UFC fighter tied up an arm and forced the tap – check out the highlights below.

The former Strikeforce champion originally called time on his professional mixed martial arts career back in December of 2017.

Marquardt, who holds a 36-19 professional record, called it a career after suffering a trio of decision losses to Sam Alvey, former UFC light heavyweight champion and heavyweight tournament winner, Vitor Belfort, and most recently, a split judging loss to Cezar Ferreira at UFC Fight Night Norfolk.

Across his career, Marquardt has lodged notable victories over the likes of Ivan Salaverry, Dean Lister, Jeremy Horn, Martin Kampmann, Demian Maia, Rousimar Palhares, Dan Miller and Tyron Woodley.

Former UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt will be returning to mixed martial arts (MMA) action in the coming months.

The former Strikeforce welterweight champion retired in November 2017 after a three-fight losing streak that included decision defeats to Sam Alvey, Vitor Belfort and Cezar Ferreira.

However, over three years on from calling it a day, Marquardt revealed to MMA Junkie that the rumors of him returning are in fact true:

“Yeah, that’s true, I’m going to be making a comeback,” Marquardt said. “I’ve known it for a while now, but I haven’t made it public. I’ve just been training, going to seminary, staying in shape, and helping guys like Ian (Heinisch) and stuff like that.”

As for what led to the decision, “The Great” revealed it all came down to a message from God in his dream:

“Well it’s kind of a crazy story, man, but I had a dream.” Marquardt explained. “God spoke to me, and he confirmed it later in the week by two people I’ve never met before and one friend, as well, that basically I’d be fighting again.

“That was it, man. After I retired, I didn’t train for like two months, and I actually started feeling really bad physically. I was like, ‘Oh man, I need to get back in the gym,’ so I started lifting weights, running, sparring and grappling a little bit, and then I had the dream. So basically, when I retired, I thought that that was it, but I haven’t stopped training. I love mixed martial arts. I love doing it. I love competing, but I really didn’t have a huge desire to compete in it. I was just going to train and maybe teach and stuff like that.”

At 40 years of age as well as winning just three of his last 12 fights, it remains to be seen how wise this decision will be.

“I’d say, you know, that’s reasonable,” Marquardt added of possible skeptics. “That’s the natural reaction to hearing news like this: ‘He’s too old; he’s past his prime.’ But I know I have a future in this sport.”

Whether that future will be in the UFC is another question.
