Nick Diaz Threatens Johny Hendricks With an Ass-Whoopin’, But Seems Pretty Happy For the Most Part [VIDEO]

(“You wanna see drama queens act drama, you wanna see real motherfuckers act real?” Um. Yes?/ Props: SPORTSNETCANADA)

Yeah, yeah…I know we should be discussing the UFC’s new welterweight champion right now, and not Nick Diaz, Gangster in Exile. But it’s always hard to avert your eyes from Diaz talking crazy into a camera. (We missed you, homie!) Diaz was actually brought to UFC 171 on the promotion’s dime, mainly so he could cause trouble and shout at people. He also made himself available for media interviews at the event, telling reporters that he feels ready to return to the UFC after a year-long hiatus.

Check out the above clip of Diaz’s Q&A with Joe Ferraro. While the content of the interview isn’t surprising — Johny Hendricks will get an ass whoopin’ right to his face, bro; Diaz isn’t coming back to the UFC for anything less than an immediate title shot — Diaz’s delivery is a little different. He actually seems…happy? Excited to be at an MMA event and among his peers? He’s smiling, for God’s sake. We have our own theories…

The interview ends with Diaz throwing some punches at the camera, in good spirits, clearly thrilled at the prospect of competing in MMA again. So will the UFC cave to Diaz’s demands and give a title shot to a guy who hasn’t won a fight since 2011? I’m going to say no, probably not — unless a legitimate contender gets injured on short notice and Nick is “the only guy who stepped up.” I mean, that makes a title challenger more qualified than anything else, right?

[VIDEO] This is What a Diaz Family Reunion Looks Like

We won’t waste much of your time with another behind-the-scenes look into the life of Nick Diaz, but there is something fascinating — sublime, really — about these videos that we here at CagePotato simply cannot look away from. The latest entry (and by “latest,” we mean uploaded in 2009) in the Diaz saga, entitled “family vids 1,” eclipses even “You can get organic food with welfare” on our list of all-time favorite Diaz moments captured on film, so we simply had to pass it along in lieu of any news worth writing about. You know, for science.

Despite being less than a minute in length, “family vids 1” tells us more about the Diaz family than a million hostile interviews ever could. Revelations include:

-The Diaz family is not the real-life cast of The Wire, as previously understood
-Even when surrounded by family, Nick Diaz is paralyzed by social anxiety
-The Diaz’s have a harder time figuring out cameras than they do blenders.
Nate Diaz *loves* posing for photos.

That last epiphany is easily the most shocking, especially to someone who once asked Nate for a photo at an MMA convention and was told to “take a short walk off a tall building.” Clearly Diaz doesn’t understand physics, because that…would’ve…killed…me…

Nick Diaz Visits the Welfare Office, And It Is Sad [VIDEO]

(Props: NickDiaz209 via r/MMA)

Let’s just clear something up first: Nick Diaz isn’t applying for welfare himself in the above clip, although he does remain retired from fighting and has no passive income to speak of. Nick is simply along for the ride as two of his friends fill out forms for some good ‘ol financial assistance. (One of the friends appears to be Chris Diaz, a knife-packing entourage member who may or may not be related to the skinnier, more successful Diazes.) Though the mood among the three gentlemen remains light, the video is still massively depressing for the following reasons:

– Man, is the Stockton welfare office packed or what?

– As Diaz observes, that little girl is indeed doing “snow angels” on the floor.

– Chris clearly has no intention of supporting himself through honest labor. “They’re gonna ask me for my work number?” he asks. “Come on.” Nick helpfully suggests that he lists “jiu-jitsu bum” as his occupation.

As a brief, unsettling window into Nick’s daily life, this clip ranks up there with Throwing Knives in the Kitchen, Failed Front Flip, and Guy Carrying Large Marijuana Plant. Enjoy, I guess?

Video: Nick Diaz Superfan Gets Chest-Tattoo That Will Haunt Him Forever

Look, we appreciate this guy’s passion. And sure, we’ve seen worse MMA-fan tattoos. I’m just saying, think of how this ink-piece might appear to the vast majority of humanity who isn’t aware of Nick Diaz’s legendary gogoplata victory over Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33. To them, it just looks like one dude in shorts blowing another dude on his back, and it’s right there on your chest, forever. Wouldn’t a cool t-shirt have been a wiser choice? At least that way you can take it off when you discover someone else to idolize in five years.

Have I just grown too cynical? Is this Nick Diaz tattoo not the most regrettable thing you’ve seen all week?

Photo of the Year Candidate: Nick Diaz and BJ Penn After UFC 137

A superstar on the rise, fist-posing next to a possibly-retired legend who barely has the strength to shaka — you can put this photo in the MMA dictionary next to “changing of the guard.”

UFC 137 gave us another example of the unique emotional arc that this sport sometimes gives us. Headliners Nick Diaz and BJ Penn got into a near-tussle at the weigh-ins, spent three rounds trying to knock each other out, and after the fight they were chillin’ like two old bros. Never mind the fact that Penn’s left eye was leaking blood from all the blows he ate from Diaz, who happened to break the record for significant strikes landed in a UFC fight, by the way.

After the jump: More UFC 137 post-fight press conference highlights, in which Diaz talks about why he didn’t want to fight Penn, and explains that he didn’t go to school for buying a house. (That’ll make a little more sense when you watch it.)
