Calls to Rape Helpline Soar After Conor McGregor's Civil Case Verdict

Calls to a rape crisis center in Ireland nearly doubled following the conclusion of Conor McGregor’s civil suit.

Last week, a jury at the High Court in Dublin found that McGregor had sexually assaulted Nikita Hand during a December 2018 encounter at a hotel. The UFC megastar was ordered to pay Hand more than $250,000 in damages, but his financial woes won’t stop there.

Recently, Proximo Spirits — the company that bought McGregor’s Proper No. 12 brand of whiskey — cut ties with the MMA fighter. McGregor received more than $150 million for his share in the company in 2021 but stayed on as a spokesman. Retail giant Tesco also said a whiskey product promoted by McGregor would be removed from its UK outlets as well as in Ireland.

“This action reflects our commitment to maintaining a retail environment that resonates with the values of our customers and partners,” a spokeswoman said.

Other outlets, including the Supervalu chain, Costcutter stores, and Carry Out retail outlets will no longer sell products linked to McGregor.

Adding to the impact of the High Court’s decision was a surge in calls received by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. According to Rachel Morrogh, chief executive of the crisis center, the number of first-time callers increased by 50% over the weekend.

“In the six hours immediately after the verdict was delivered on Friday afternoon the calls surged by 150%,” Morrogh told the BBC. “I think the trial has resulted in the scales falling off some people’s eyes as to what the victim experience is in an adversarial legal situation.

“It has also thrown up some societal questions around the blame and shame placed on the victim when it really needs to be solely at the door of the perpetrator.”

Speaking to BBC Radio, Morrogh revealed that, “In Ireland, one in two people who have experienced sexual violence will never tell another person.”

Hundreds March Dublin Rallies Behind Nikita Hand After Winning Civil Case Against Conor McGregor

Hundreds of people staged a demonstration in Dublin in solidarity with Nikita Hand, who recently won a civil suit against UFC star Conor McGregor.

Hand claimed that McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her at a Dublin hotel in December 2018. After McGregor escaped criminal charges for the alleged assault, Hand filed a civil lawsuit against the Irish megastar in 2021. On November 22, a High Court jury found that McGregor was liable for the assault and ordered him to pay Hand more than $250,000 in damages.

Immediately following the decision, Hand delivered an emotional speech outside the courthouse while McGregor immediately went online and protested the verdict.

“I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be, speak up, you have a voice, and keep on fighting for justice,” Hand told the media (h/t Irish Independent).

On Monday, a march was organized by the socialist feminist movement group Rosa to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. During the event, Hand was described as “incredibly brave” and celebrated for “standing up for survivors” of assault.

McGregor claims his sexual encounter with Nikita hand was ‘consensual’

McGregor argued that his sexual encounter with Hand was consensual, but the evidence certainly didn’t support his stance.

During the trial and paramedic who examined Hand on her way to the Rotunda Hospital the following day told the court he had not seen “someone so bruised” in a long time. Emergency room gynecologist Dr. Daniel Kane also testified, noting that what he observed was “consistent with the outline of events as described by (Hand).”

McGregor revealed in a series of since-deleted posts on X that he has instructed his legal team to appeal the decision and continues to vehemently deny any wrongdoing, outside of committing adultery.

Alleged Victim in Conor McGregor Assault Case Shares Her Story: 'He Wasn't Taking No for an Answer

A woman accusing Conor McGregor of sexually assaulting her at a Dublin hotel in 2018 has revealed some of the jaw-dropping details regarding what allegedly occurred that evening.

Nikita Ni Laimhin began seeking damages against the UFC star in 2021 after alleging that he assaulted her at the Beacon Hotel in Ireland three years prior. Both parties appeared in front of a High Court jury in Dublin on Tuesday to determine whether or not McGregor will be held liable.

Per a report from the Irish Mirror, Laimhin — who requested to be referred to as Nikita Hand — shared her side of what went down the night of the alleged assault and made it abundantly clear that she did not consent to any sort of sexual activity with McGregor.

“He was coming onto me,” Hand said. “He started to try kiss me, rubbing my face. I knew what he was looking for… ‘I don’t feel comfortable Conor’… I said no, I don’t feel comfortable. I know of Dee, I know her family… I didn’t want to have sex and I wasn’t there for anything like that. He just wasn’t taking no for an answer. He then pinned me onto the bed. Kept telling me to, ‘Relax, babe’… I remember putting my arms up against my chest. He just kept pushing his weight down on top of me” (h/t Sportskeeda).

Hand Says she though she ‘would be killed’ during alleged conor mcGregor assault

Hand claimed in her testimony that the mood had changed significantly once they were at the hotel and McGregor had allegedly told her to “suck on that” before the assault reportedly occurred.

“I remember [the] security guard over the window and another security guard closing the door between the two rooms. I remember panicking. Why is there three men in the room and I’m the only one in here? I also remember walking into the bedroom area and I remember walking the two rooms looking around and Conor was in the bathroom and he said something inappropriate to me. He told me to, ‘S*ck on that’.”
