ONE Championship heads to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia this week for what will be the promotions final event of 2019. ONE: Masters Of Greatness is scheduled to take place on Friday, 6 December, inside the capital city’s Axiata Arena.

The prelims for ONE: Mark Of Greatness  will begin at 5:00 am (EST) on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the ONE Super App. Starting at 7:30 am (EST) the main card will be streaming free on B/R Live.

The 13-bout show will be headlined by two kickboxing world title bouts and will feature plenty of the company’s rising stars.

Former flyweight kickboxing title challenger Elias Mahmoudi returns to ONE for the first time since his unsuccessful title shot at ONE: Dreams Of Gold. The French-Algerian will take on Thailand’s Lerdsila Phuket Top Team in what promises to be a fascinating Muay Thai duel, which is set headline the preliminary portion of the card.

Here is a breakdown of the critical bouts worth paying attention to.

Two Inaugural Champions Will Be Crowned

The main event of ONE: Masters Of Greatness sees Muay Thai legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao taking on China’s Wang Junguang in the inaugural ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship bout. Sam-A began 2019 as the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, but after dropping the belt to England’s Johnathan Haggerty at ONE: For Honor, the Thai veteran is now going in search of a new crown.

The 36-year-old will be facing a fighter who at 24 years of age is more than ten years his junior. Wang is considered as one of the world’s top strawweight kickboxers. His ONE debut at ONE: Dawn Of Valor gave fans a glimpse of how good he is. The Chinese fighter dismantled Argentina’s Federico Roma, who he defeated in the opening round, after scoring three knockdowns.

It will be interesting to see how he matches up against a Muay Thai legend. Sam-A is nearing the end of his career but still has a few more major bouts in him.

In the co-main event, Russia’s Alaverdi Ramazanov will clash with China’s Zhang Chenglong for the right to be named ONE’s inaugural Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion. This one looks to be a potential barnstormer. Both men come from Muay Thai backgrounds and are skilled technical strikers. Ramazanov surprised many with his opening-round victory over the of the highly-rated Serbian-American Ognjen Topic at ONE: Dreams Of Gold. The 24-year-old has looked a step ahead of is competition to date, but he faces a real challenge when he locks horns with Zhang.

The 22-year-old has not lost a fight since he arrived at ONE. In his last outing, he scored a stunning first KO win over Australia’s Tyler Hardcastle.

Hometown Hero Looks to End The Year On A High

Malaysia’s Jihin Radzuan will be flying the home nation’s colors this Friday night when she takes on Denice Zamboanga from the Philippines. Radzuan is one of Malaysia’s up and coming mixed martial artists and a genuine prospect in the atomweight division. At just 20 years of age, the Ultimate MMA trained fighter still has a lot of room to grow.

She will start as the favorite against Zamboanga, who will be making her promotional debut. The fact that Filipina trains out of Thailand’s Fairtex Gym is a strong indication that she has not joined ONE to simply make up the numbers. Fairtex fighters can be relied upon to be well drilled and well prepared. It will not be too much of a surprise if the ONE newcomer ends up getting her hand raised at the bouts conclusion.

Mangat Looks To Step Into Flyweight Title Contention

Gurdarshan Mangat has had quite a year since teaming up with ONE Championship. The Indian/Canadian flyweight made his promotional debut in March at ONE: Reign Of Valor, scoring himself a second-round TKO victory over Finland’s Toni Tauru in the process. The 32-year-old followed that win up with a unanimous decision victory over Indonesia’s Abro Fernandes at ONE: Masters Of Destiny.

Mangat now has a chance to boost his stock even higher by defeating Australia’s Reece McLaren, when the pair meet on Friday. McLaren is coming off two straight decision losses, after falling to Kairat Akhmetov and Danny Kingad. The Australian may not be at the very top of the flyweight division, but he still resides in the upper echelon of ONE flyweight fighters.

If Mangat wants to start building towards a run at the flyweight title, then a win over McLaren would be the perfect place to start. ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano Moraes will be facing off against the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix winner Demetrious Johnson, and following that bout, the ground will be clear for a new contender to put their hand up.

Main Card:

  • Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship: Sam-A Gaiyanghadao vs. Wang Junguang
  • Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship: Alaverdi Ramazanov vs. Zhang Chenglong
  • Women’s Atomweight: Jihin Radzuan vs. Denice Zamboanga
  • Welterweight: Agilan Thani vs. Mohammad Karak
  • Flyweight: Gurdarshan Mangat vs. Reece McLaren
  • Light Heavyweight Kickboxing: Andrei Stoica vs. Anderson Silva
  • Strawweight: Ryuto Sawada vs. Bokang Masunyane

Prelims:

  • Flyweight Muay Thai: Lerdsila Phuket Top Team vs. Elias Mahmoudi
  • Bantamweight:  Muhammad Aiman vs. Chen Rui
  • Bantamweight: Tial Thang vs Kim Woon Kyo
  • Catchweight:  Rodian Menchavez vs. Yoon Chang Min
  • Flyweight Muay Thai : Rui Botelho vs. Taiki Naito
  • Women’s Flyweight: Savannah Em vs Rayane BastosWomen

After an official review, the result of the Ev Ting- Amir Khan bout which took place last Friday at ONE: Edge Of Greatness, has been overturned and ruled a No Contest.

The pair locked horns in the co-main event of the eleven-bout card, and after the bell sounded, it was Khan who got the nod from the judges with the Singaporean winning via a controversial split decision victory. The result raised eyebrows because after some initial offensive success in the opening round, Khan, who came into this bout on the back of a three-fight losing streak, appeared unwilling to engage for the rest of the contest.

ONE scores their bouts as a whole and not round by round, and many observers believed Ting deserved the victory. The Malaysian born Kiwi put together several impressive combinations and was by far the more aggressive fighter.

In the post-bout press conference, ONE CEO and founder Chatri Sityodtong declared he believed Ting won the bout. A point he reiterated in a Facebook post two days later.

Ev Ting vs Amir Khan was definitely a super close fight, but my personal opinion is that Ev won. ONE Championship works with some of the world’s best judges, referees, and officials. I respect their professional judgement. However, I do not think that a fighter who runs away with minimal output deserves to win. Amir was fighting not to lose while Ev was fighting to win. At the request of Ev Ting’s camp, the fight is under official review. The world wants to see a rematch,” Sityodtong wrote.

After the event, Ting’s camp lodged a request for the bout to be reviewed by the ONE competition team, and yesterday the team came back with their decision. The result came as a relief to Ting, who came into the bout on the back of a superb victory over Japan’s Daichi Abe at ONE: Masters Of Destiny.

“Crazy how one or two judges decisions can bring so much negativity, Amir and I deserve this clear slate, “Ting said in a statement to LowkickMMA.

Fans would no doubt love to see Khan and Ting face off against one another again as Khan’s performance seemed out of character for the Evolve MMA athlete. If this match up does get rebooked, don’t be surprised if it ends up being the thriller everyone hoped their initial encounter would be.

Ting is hoping to start his 2020 campaign off with a bout against Team Lakay’s Eduard Folayang before targeting a rematch with Khan. However, it plays out the ONE lightweight division looks set to provide plenty of exciting storylines in the new year.

It’s been nearly a year since UFC legend Vitor Belfort inked a deal with ONE Championship.

Belfort is gearing up to make his promotional debut sometime in 2020 and is hard back to work in the gym in the meantime. Recently, legendary coach Henri Hooft took to his Instagram to share some footage of himself working with Belfort. Here’s what he had to say.

@vitorbelfort still got it and I am talking about technique..precision and power been working with a lot of great strikers in the last 31 years and his in in the top when it comes to striking skill set”

Famed Singapore coach Yodkunsup Por Pongsawang also shared some footage of himself working with Belfort, in which he’s looking very noticeably shredded as he prepares to return to MMA competition.

“Every time he’s in Singapore, UFC World Champion Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort @vitorbelfort makes sure to train with Trainer of World Champions Yodkunsup Por Pongsawang @yodmaster from the EVOLVE Fight Team!”

Belfort has won just two of his last six fights. He most recently suffered a brutal front kick knock out at the hands of Lyoto Machida at UFC 224 in May of 2018. He does still own the UFC record for knockouts with 12. ONE appears to think there is still life in the “Phenom.

What do you think about Belfort’s physique ahead of his debut with ONE Championship?

ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced today on Facebook that there will be an official review of Friday night’s lightweight bout between Ev Ting and Amir Khan.

The pair fought in the co-main event of ONE: Edge Of Greatness, which took place in Singapore inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Khan emerged the victor via split decision, but in the post bout press conference, Sityodtong stated he believed Ting should have been the one with his hand raised once the final bell sounded.

Sityodtong doubled down on that statement in a recent Facebook post while hinting that a rematch may be in order.

“Ev Ting vs Amir Khan was definitely a super close fight, but my personal opinion is that Ev won. The world wants to see a rematch.”

Khan, who came into the bout on a three-fight losing streak, drew first blood both literally and figuratively in the final minute opening round. However, following his initial success, the Singaporean turned gun shy and appeared to have little interest in mixing it up with Ting.

Congratulations to all of the warriors who competed in ONE: Edge of Greatness! You left it all in the ring, and thrilled…

Posted by Chatri Sityodtong on Saturday, November 23, 2019

Towards the end of the final round, referee Olivier Coste ordered Khan to engage more, but by this stage, there was only 1:30 left in the contest.

ONE Championship rules dictate that a fight is judged in its entirety and not round by round. Fighters and are also judged on the amount of aggression shown throughout the bout.

Ting came into this bout on the back of a sensational second-round victory over Japan’s Daichi Abe, and was looking to insert himself back into the title picture. Ting, his team and his fans will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of this review.

Sage Northcutt has learned from his recent loss inside the ONE Championship cage and will be making some big adjustments.

Northcutt suffered a knockout loss at 185 pounds to Cosmo Alexandre. He sustained several fractures as a result of the loss. Now, after some surgical repair and time off, Northcutt is preparing to get back to action. Speaking to MMA Junkie, the 23-year-old noted he plans on dropping back down to 155 pounds.

“I fought up at 185 pounds, so I was eating and drinking a lot to be able to get on some weight because I’m only 23, and I’m trying to put on some muscle, so now I’m going to go back down,” Northcutt said. “I learned my lesson about fighting a weight class too big, going back down to 155, and it’ll be better for me.”

Northcutt’s loss in his ONE debut ended a three-fight win streak that he racked up in the UFC. Shortly after his knockout loss, UFC president Dana White suggested Northcutt consider retirement, a suggestion Northcutt strongly disagreed with.

“For him to say something like that, after that injury, I don’t understand the exact logic of why he would say something like that,” Northcutt said. “Before, he was wishing me to do great in everything I happened to do in the future, and (to) say something like that is totally different.

“I’m sure he’s had a few fighters from the UFC go to ONE Championship and I’m sure he—I’m not sure what exactly he wants to see from those fighters, but I’m sure he would like them to be fighting for his league. Me fighting for ONE Championship is great, and I think I’m gonna accomplish great things.”

What do you think about Northcutt dropping back down to 155 pounds?
