Press Release – LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 24, 2011) – ProElite Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is proud to present the first round of their Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament on November 5, 2011 from Moline, Il. This tournament consists of some of the best up and coming heavyweights in the world and the winner will be pushed into the upper tier of the heavyweight division.

In the first bracket of the Grand Prix, 2009 NCAA heavyweight wrestling champ Mark Ellis (1-0) takes on the ever exciting Ryan Martinez (5-1). Mark made his MMA debut at Proelite 1 on August 27, 2011 with a thrilling win via rear naked choke against the very tough Jake Heun. The 6-foot-3, 25-year-old Ellis, who trains out of the famed American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, California with the likes of current UFC Heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez, 2-time Olympic wrestling and current Strikeforce Grand Prix finalist Daniel Cormier and a stable of other outstanding talent, looks to remain undefeated in his MMA career with an exciting finish in this upcoming bout. His opponent, Ryan Martinez, might have other plans

Making his Proelite debut in the upcoming Grand Prix, Ryan Martinez has not had a single fight make it to the final bell. Known for his exciting fights and go for broke fighting style, the 5-foot-11 wrestler hailing out of Greenley, Colorado wants to show the world he has arrived by taking out such a highly touted prospect in Ellis. In his last fight on August 20 of this year, Martinez choked Brandon Endriss unconscious (guillotine choke) in the first round (3:45).

Continuing on to the second match up of the Grand Prix, hard-hitting Justin Frazier (5-0) takes on Illinois own James Bosler (3-1). The 6-foot, 260 pound Frazier is a very heavy handed fighter with four of his five wins coming via first round TKO due to punches, including his last fight in on October 1, 2011 for Bellator Fighting Championships against Liron Wilson (1:50). Training out of Without Limits MMA in Batesville, Arkansas, Frazier is always looking for the finish and expects this contest not to reach the final bell. His opponent might be thinking the same thing but with the outcome being in his favor.

Hailing from Sandoval, Illinois, Bosler will be the home town favorite in this fight. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 264 pounds he has the power and submission skills to end the fight at any point. Training out of Finney’s HIT Squad with the likes of Strikeforce veteran Jesse Finney and world renowned coach Andre Benkei, Bosler has the skill set to advance in the Grand Prix tournament. His last bout came to a screeching halt at 1:46 of the first round when he knocked Steve Campbell out with a punch.

Headlined by former 2-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim

“ The Maine-iac” Sylvia (29-7) taking on Germany’s own Andreas “Big Daddy” Kraniotakes (12-4). Also on the card is another exciting heavyweight fight featuring former UFC heavyweight champion Andre “The Pitbull” Arlovski (16-9) versus 300+ fight veteran Travis “The Ironman” Fulton (247-48-10). Rounding out the Proelite 2 fight card is the returning Reagan Penn (1-0) to battle it out with Evan Cutts (2-0).

Proelite 2: Big Guns will be televised live on HD NET at 8 P.M. CST

German heavyweight Andreas ‘Big Daddy’ Kraniotakes (12-4) is set to step in as a replacement for Pedro Rizzo next month as part of ProElite’s second event against former UFC champ Tim Sylvia.

Kraniotakes will make his North American debut at the Illinois event against an opponent who has fought at super heavyweight for his last seven bouts.

In a recent interview with Tatame.com, ‘Big Daddy’ talked to them about taking the fight on short notice and the size differences between the two.

You’ll replace Rizzo against Sylvia on short notice. How are you gonna prepare for this fight?
I was already in San Diego preparing for a fight. Originally I should have fought on November 26th. So what I had to do is pick up my training a little bit and try to peak earlier. There is really good training in my home gym Kampfsportgym but coming to San Diego and training with some of the top guys in the world is always bringing my game to a different level. I’m pretty sure they can get me into good shape until the fight.

It’s your sixth fight in 2011, the eight in the last 14 months. Do you like to fight a lot of times in a year, or prefer to take 3-4 months of training for a bout like this against Tim?
Well, I would have loved to have more than 20 days to prepare for this fight. Sylvia is a very experienced guy and I will have to be at my best to beat him. Normally I like to fight as often as I can. I’m a fighter and that’s what fighters do, right?

You’re a huge heavyweight too. Do you think the size won’t be a big factor in this bout?
My opponent will be bigger than me, but he won’t be able to toss me around like a toy. I fought bigger and heavier guys before. I will approach this fight as an interesting task to solve. In the end it is the skill set I’m fighting, not the body.

Tim Sylvia Gets New Opponent for ProElite 2 Main Event; Eight-Man Heavyweight Tournament Added

(And here we have Andreas Kraniotakes slugging the crap out of someone.)

Due to an arm injury suffered while training in Holland, Pedro Rizzo will no longer be able to meet Tim Sylvia in the main event of ProElite 2 (November 5th; Moline, IL). Stepping up on short notice against the Maine-iac will be Andreas “Big Daddy” Kraniotakes, a 12-4 heavyweight from Germany whose wins have all come by stoppage.

Sylvia vs. Kraniotakes will be just one of six heavyweight fights on ProElite 2’s beefy main card. In addition to the main event and the Andrei Arlovski vs. Travis Wiuff co-headliner, the card will host the opening round of a heavyweight tournament featuring prospects from around the country. (Swagger-jackin’ Bellator, ‘eh guys?)

As confirmed on Inside MMA last night, ProElite has signed a multi-fight, multi-year television deal with HDNet, and the November 5th event will be aired live on the cable network. The current lineup of “ProElite 2: Big Guns” is after the jump…

With it’s second event set for November, the returning ProElite promotion has already inked a broadcast deal to televise the upcoming show live in North America.

On Monday night, MMAjunkie.com reported that the re-surging ProElite promotion had signed a deal with HDNet. The promotion formally announced a multi-fight deal with the broadcast company late Monday night in a press release.

“After watching their first event in Hawaii, I could see ProElite was a great fit for HDNet,” said Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights. “This upcoming card has the perfect mix of marquee names and an innovative Heavyweight tournament that fight fans won’t want to miss!”

“Our multi-fight agreement with HDNet elevates the ProElite brand to a national MMA audience with a preeminent broadcast partner,” said Paul Feller, President and CEO of Stratus Media Group and Chairman of ProElite. “This strategic partnership offers new opportunities for corporate sponsors and advertisers looking to reach this passionate and rapidly growing audience of ProElite fans.”

The upcoming ProElite 2 event is scheduled to take place on Nov. 5 at the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois and will feature several heavyweight bouts on the card. Besides featuring an eight-man heavyweight tournament, former UFC champ Tim Sylvia will take on German fighter Andreas Kraniotakes, while another former UFC champ, Andrei Arlovski meets Travis Fulton on the card.

The ProElite promotion made their return to the mixed martial arts seen this past summer on August 27 with their ProElite 1 event in Honolulu featuring fighters such as Arlovski, Kendall Grove who took on Joe Riggs, and the pro debut of Reagan Penn, brother of BJ Penn.
