Senegalese knockout artist Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane is ready for a ONE heavyweight world title fight after scoring the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career thus far.

On Friday night, ONE Championship returned to the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok for ONE Fight Night 13 on Prime Video. The event featured a stacked lineup, including a highly-entertaining scrap between two of the promotion’s most notable heavyweight standouts, ‘Reug Reug’ and 17-time BJJ world champion Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida.

Almeida went into the contest riding a four-fight undefeated streak, all coming via first-round finishes. As a result, ‘Buchecha’ undoubtedly went into the bout as the significant favorite, but in the end, ‘Reug Reug’ was able to withstand the ground game of the submission grappling superstar and punished his opponent over the course of 15 minutes.

The bout was by no means pretty with both men gassing out in the early going, but that didn’t stop the two warriors from giving it everything they had and earning the appreciation of fans watching around the world.

‘Reug Reug’ Calls for a Heavyweight Title Fight Following Impressive Win

With the victory, ‘Reug Reug’ is likely the next man in line for a heavyweight title opportunity. Speaking with the South China Morning Post following his win, Kane said:

“Inshallah! Yeah. Inshallah! I’m ready. Everything inshallah, I am ready. I am ready… He’s a good guy you know, I am ready to fight this guy… This is my belt. I am ready,” ‘Reug Reug’ said. “It doesn’t make sense for me to wait you know I shouldn’t be waiting. One Championship is my house and this is my belt so I should be fighting.”

Currently, Russian juggernaut Anatoly Malykhin is the holder of both the ONE heavyweight and light heavyweight world championships. In June, ‘Sladkiy’ got into a physical altercation with streaking heavyweight standout Amir Aliakbari. That led many to believe the Iranian wrestler would be the next man to challenge Malykhin, but after Friday night’s event inside the Mecca of Muay Thai, it’s hard to imagine anyone other than ‘Reug Reug’ stepping in with hopes of dethroning Malykhin.

Eddie Alvarez has once again suffered defeat under the ONE Championship banner.

The former UFC and Bellator champion was hoping to quickly bounce back from being disqualified in his last fight.

For those that don’t remember, Alvarez was thrown out of his last fight.

‘The Underground King’ was dominating Iuri Lapicus early before a couple of his punches hit the back of his opponent’s head.

The Moldovan was unable to continue despite a lengthy time out.

Referee, Justin Brown issued a red card to Alvarez, resulting in an immediate disqualification loss.

The result was recently overturned and now appears as a no-contest on both men’s records.

Just a few week later, Alvarez was back in Singapore to fight Ok Rae Yoon at ONE on TNT 4.

Things did not go well for the lightweight legend who was dropped early.

Alvarez managed to survive the heavy knockdown but was unable to mount enough offence in the final two rounds to sway the judges in his favour.

Rae Yoo picked up the biggest win of his career via unanimous decision.

Earlier on the ONE on TNT 4 undercard, Senegalese wrestling sensation Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane suffered the first defeat of his professional MMA career.

Kirill Grishenko manged to pull off the monumental upset to score a second round TKO win.

The two fighters spent much of the opening two rounds locked in a clinch battle.

As the horn sounded to end the second stanza, Grishenko landed a punch on Reug Reug.

Kane dropped to the floor holding his throat. The referee checked on Reug Reug who remained on the floor for some time in agony.

Ultimately, cage side doctors waved off the fight and Grishenko was declared the winner after replays showed he threw the punch before the bell sounded to end round two.

The undefeated heavyweight out of Belarus picked up the biggest win of his career and stretched his perfect record to 4-0. Reug Reug drops to 3-1 as a professional MMA fighter.

Oumar Kane, or as he is more commonly referred to in MMA, Reug Reug, is set to compete in his third professional MMA on April 7th. He is set to face off against Iranian power puncher, Mehdi Barghi, at ONE on TNT I.

Reug Reug recently sat down with LowKick MMA’s Frank Bonada to discuss his MMA career as well as his future plans in the sport.

Before MMA, Oumar Kane was a Senegalese wrestling champion. Like many other practitioners of a single martial art, he made the choice to transition over the MMA. He currently holds two (T)KO finishes in two fights. He had the following to say about the move to mixed martial arts:

“I’m a young man. I know I’m from a Senegalese wrestling background. But for the kickboxing and the muay thai, I have my coach who is always with me. Trying to push me, trying to give me advice. That’s why I don’t think I’ll have problems, even in the future.”

“I’m somebody who likes combat sports. It was very important for me to practise MMA, to practise a lot of sports. If there was no MMA, maybe I would try to find another combat sports to do.”

To say Reug Reug has high aspirations for his future career would be somewhat of an understatement. The Senegalese heavyweight wishes to pick up the belt in every organisation, regardless of who the champions are. He stated the following:

“Like I used to say, I don’t have any problem fighting anyone. So all the fighters, the MMA fighters around the world, I’m ready to fight them. My goal, my main target is to get the world belt. Where ever it is, I will take it from there. From Ngannou, that champion at ONE, anywhere else. Where ever there is a world belt, I will take it. And at any time, because I am ready.
