Brady recently took to Twitter to hit out at “Wonderboy,” claiming the 39-year-old veteran recently turned down a fight with him. The No. 9-ranked welterweight claims it’s because Thompson is “scared.”
“@WonderboyMMA , @ufc told you to fight me. You flat out said, “no,” because you are scared. U can’t stay in the rankings refusing to fight ranked fighter. Step up let’s go!”
In his five bouts under the UFC’s banner, Brady owns victories over names such as Jake Mathews and Michael Chiesa. He’s also a proven finisher, with two of those victories in the UFC coming via submission.
As for Thompson, the karate specialist has faced off against the whose who of 170 pounds throughout his career. Thompson is a former welterweight title challenger and one of the best strikers the entire UFC roster has to offer.
Thompson is on a two-fight losing skid at the moment, dropping unanimous decisions to both Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad.
Should he share the Octagon with Brady, a potential win over a young prospect of his caliber would do wonders for his position in the division’s title picture.

UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns has some opponents in mind for rising contender Sean Brady’s next appearance in the Octagon. While Khamzat Chimaev has taken most of the headlines in regards to unbeaten welterweights rising the ranks, Brady has quietly snuck into the top 10 at 170 pounds after adding five UFC wins to his perfect…
Having taken to Twitter to express his frustration at not being booked yet, one of Brady’s fellow top-10 welterweights has now played matchmaker for him.
During a recent interview with MMA Underground while in attendance for Eagle FC 47, #4-ranked Gilbert Burns was asked about Brady’s complaints. After sympathizing with the Philadelphian’s situation, “Durinho” even suggested that he could be tempted to face Brady should he be on the receiving end of a callout.
“I will say the same as him, I’ve never heard my name out of no one’s mouth in the division. No one calls me out… Call me out, and we shall see,” said Burns. “Maybe it’ll get on my nerves if you say my name and I might give you the opportunity. But, right now, I want (Jorge) Masvidal and Colby (Covington)… But welcome brother, no one calls me out as well.”
But with his sights set on Masvidal and Covington, Burns looked elsewhere for a more logical opponent for Brady.
Burns Assesses What “Makes Sense” For Brady
After discussing who’s available high up the welterweight ladder, Burns settled on two potential next opponents for Brady.
“We’ve got to get the division moving, I agree with Sean Brady. Why not Belal (Muhammad)? He’s right there, no opponent. I think they should face each other. Who else is available? He just beat Chiesa… ‘Wonderboy?’ He’s right there, too, no dancing partner. Sean Brady, call out Belal Muhammad and call out ‘Wonderboy.’ I think that makes sense for you.”
Muhammad recently got the better of Burns’ friend and teammate Vicente Luque in a UFC Fight Night main event last month. With the victory, which extended his unbeaten streak to eight, Muhammad entered the top five.
A clash with “Remember The Name” would certainly test all of his grappling talents. Meanwhile, a date in the cage with “Wonderboy” would give Brady the opportunity to replicate Thompson’s past two defeats, which both came as a result of his wrestling deficiencies.
We’ll see if either bout comes to fruition in the coming weeks and months.
Do you agree with Gilbert Burns? Should Sean Brady face either Belal Muhammad or Stephen Thompson next?

Brady and Dvalishvili are both surging contenders in their respective divisions. They both have been eagerly waiting for their next UFC assignments following impressive performances in their last Octagon appearances.
As of the writing of this story, Brady lands at No. 9 in the welterweight rankings, while Dvalishvili sits at No. 6 at bantamweight.
While there has been a slew of fight announcements in recent weeks, Brady and Dvalishvili are both frustrated to be left out of the conversation. In a recent tweet, Brady made his case to get a fight booked as soon as possible.
“The last guy I beat was ranked #6,” Brady tweeted. “Everyone in the top 10 knows me, and they don’t say my name. That’s the truth. Top10 let’s get this division moving let’s go!”
Brady is a perfect 15-0 in his professional MMA career, and most recently earned a unanimous decision win over Michael Chiesa last November.
Just before Brady’s tweet, Dvalishvili expressed his frustration with the lack of movement in the bantamweight division.
“Someone from top 10 Bantamweight needs to call my name !” Dvalishvili pleaded. “I have been ready to go since my last fight back in September. Who is ready for me ??? Lets goooo!”
Dvalishvili most recently defeated former bantamweight title challenger Marlon Moraes at UFC 266. He’s also picked up wins over John Dodson and Cody Stamann on his way up the bantamweight ranks.
Brady had called out Vicente Luque and Stephen Thompson for fights, but Luque was most recently booked to face Geoff Neal later this year. Thompson has appeared reluctant to accept Brady’s past callouts.
Dvalishvili has hinted at a potential move to flyweight if his teammate and bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling holds on to the title.
Brady and Dvalishvili are looking to make their Octagon returns later this year, and preferably the sooner the better.

UFC welterweight Sean Brady feels that some fans have been far too critical of Khamzat Chimaev’s recent performance against Gilbert Burns.
Since defeating Burns at UFC 273, Chimaev has been on the receiving end of both praise and criticism from fans. Some believe the 27-year-old lived up to the hype by conquering the #2 ranked welterweight after just four UFC fights.
Others, however, have claimed that Khamzat was exposed. In only marginally defeating Burns, they feel he failed to live up to the lofty expectations set by his previous one-sided performances. Some even believe Chimaev lost, noting that the Swede sustained more significant strikes than he inflicted on Burns.
Sean Brady Defends Khamzat’s UFC 273 Performance
Regardless of fan opinion, Khamzat is now on course to face the best of the welterweight division. But he’s not the only surging, undefeated prospect at 170 pounds. Sean Brady has similarly impressed since entering the UFC in 2019, with many touting him as a future title contender. And in an interview with MMANews, the 29-year-old shared his thoughts on Chimaev’s UFC 273 performance.
“Man, he looked great,” said Brady. “To go in there and beat Gilbert, who’s ranked number two in the world. That fight, if they had said Gilbert Burns won, I would’ve been completely OK with that; I think a lot of people would be. But they said Chimaev won, I was OK with that, too. It was super close going into that third round, and that third round was crazy, so I had it … either way I was cool with it.”
Brady, who achieved the biggest win of his career against Michael Chiesa in November, called out fans for what he perceives as their exaggerated criticisms of Chimaev’s win. And the Philadelphia native believes these are likely motivated by their unrealistic expectations of fighters.
“He goes in there and he beats Gilbert Burns, but he didn’t kill him in the first 30 seconds and people are saying, ‘He’s not this, he’s not that,’” continued Brady. “What do you expect us to do, go out there and walk on fucking water? Do they want lasers to come out of the dude’s eyes? He’s human, we’re all human, you know? These people who just sit on the outside, and they have no fucking clue what goes into this.”
Despite what some fans might think, Brady says he was impressed by Chimaev’s performance, especially since he defeated one of the baddest men in the welterweight division.
“I’ve seen people saying bad things about him,” continued Brady. “I thought he looked great. Good for him, you know? Go in there and beat Gilbert Burns; Gilbert’s still one of the best guys in the division. Outside to losing to Chimaev, he only lost to the champion. So, I thought he looked great.”
What do you think? Is Sean Brady right to call out fans for criticizing Khamzat Chimaev?
Rising UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady has looked ahead to his next fight and revealed who he’d like to share the Octagon with. With all the talk of Khamzat Chimaev rising the ranks with a memorable victory over Gilbert Burns, the name of one other undefeated prospect has perhaps gone more unnoticed than it should…
In building an unblemished 15-0 record, the wrestling specialist has had his hand raised five times inside the Octagon, a run that includes victories over Court McGee and Jake Matthews.
With “Wonderboy” hoping to avoid wrestlers, that bout was quickly dismissed b the former title challenger. Now, during an interview with MMA News’ own James Lynch, Brady has discussed that callout and the negative reception it received from some in the fanbase.
“It’s funny. I’ve never lost a fight, and I see people (saying), ‘Sean sucks, Sean this…’ Listen, I’m undefeated, I’m ranked in the top 10 in the UFC in less than two years, and I’m just trying to—I want to fight the best guys in the world. I’m not trying to get easy fights,” said Brady.
“When I asked for ‘Wonderboy,’ he was the only one available inside the top 10. People are like, ‘Why are you trying to fight ‘Wonderboy,’ he’s old, he’s this…’ I’m like, why? ‘Cause he lost two fights? He was the only one available that was ranked ahead of me. I’m trying to fight up.”
With a pursuit of a Thompson fight seemingly a thing of the past, Brady has set his sights elsewhere, with his next target set following last weekend’s UFC Fight Night main event.
Brady told MMA News that he was anticipating the loser of that clash to become an option. With Luque falling short on the scorecards, the #9-ranked welterweight is zoning in on “The Silent Assassin.”
“I know how good I am, everyone who trains with me knows how good I am, real people like you (James Lynch) and other media members know how good I am, I just need to keep getting these opportunities to prove it,” said Brady. “I’m hoping to get a big fight next.
“The division is crazy stacked… Me, looking at a fight that I could potentially get, would be—I was thinking the loser of that matchup (Muhammad vs. Luque)… I’m not sure how long Vicente will be out for, but that’s a fight I would like to get,” revealed Brady.
“Vicente’s one of the best in the world… I would love to test myself against him. That’s something I’m looking at.”
“If I went in there, I wouldn’t be trying to have a kickboxing match with one of the best strikers in the division,” Brady told MMA News. “I’d clearly be trying to use my grappling to my advantage. But I think it’d be a great fight. We’ll see. My manager has been reaching out to the UFC, letting them know I’m cleared and we’d like to fight sometime in the summer.”
For Brady, a collision with Luque would not only ascend him to just outside the top five in the weight class, but it would add an established name, who’d been tipped by many to challenge for gold this year, to his already-impressive résumé.
Nothing says game like calling out a man like Luque. We’ll see if that bout can come to fruition later this year.

UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady is sick of dealing with trolls on social media following his last win over Michael Chiesa.
Brady defeated Chiesa via a unanimous decision last November in easily the biggest win of his career. Before that, he earned wins over Court McGee and Jake Matthews in the Octagon.
Despite his recent successes, Brady has had to deal with his fair share of trolls on his social media platforms. Unfortunately, this is a pattern that seems to follow UFC fighters who are on the winning track.
“With the Chiesa fight, the thing that bothers me the most… I shouldn’t read comments, but I do,” Brady admitted. “People were like, ‘Oh, Sean’s conditioning sucks’. I broke my nose in the first round and was sucking on blood that entire fight. It was the worst feeling of my life. If you know me, I run, I have more conditioning than anyone in every room I’ve ever met. So that kinda gets under my skin. But if people don’t know, I broke my nose. And I couldn’t breathe through my nose to begin with.”
Many UFC fighters use their social media to engage with their fans and critics alike. But for Brady, he takes issue with some UFC fans who use their engagement with him to make baseless critiques of his skillset.
Sean Brady Wanted A Stephen Thompson Fight Before Thompson Declined
Brady went on to address the criticism he received from online trolls for requesting the fight with Thompson.
“I’m not trying to get easy fights. When I asked for Wonderboy, he was the only one available in the top 10. And people were like, ‘Why are you trying to fight Wonderboy?! He’d old, he’s this, he’s that. I’m like, Why? Because he lost two fights? He was the only one available that was ranked ahead of me. I’m trying to fight up. These internet (trolls)—I don’t know why I let it get to me, but I’m just like, I’m trying to fight up.”
Thompson is coming off of back-to-back losses against Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns. He seems to be near the later part of his career in the Octagon after losses in four of his last six fights.
At 29 years old, Brady is one of the top welterweight prospects in the UFC. With another pair of wins, he could enter the welterweight title conversation by the end of 2022.
