Sean O’Malley wants to fight one of the big winners from UFC Vegas 43.

Adrian Yanez picked up the biggest win of his career last night after three hard rounds with ‘Dangerous’ Davey Grant. It was a close fight that earned both men an extra $50,000 in bonus money.

While watching Yanez pick up a split decision win, ‘Suga’ sent out a cryptic tweet that suggested he wants to face the rising bantamweight prospect next year. O’Malley later confirmed that is Yanez he wants to fight in the first quarter of 2022.

Adrian Yanez Calls Out Sean O’Malley For Cherry Picking His Opponents

“Yeah, I would definitely fight Sean O’Malley,” Yanez said at the UFC Vegas 43 post-fight press conference. “Right now he says he wants to get a ranked opponent and all that stuff but he’s dodging all these other ranked opponents. Let’s dive into that one right quick.

“So, Sean O’Malley says, ‘OK, let me go out there and let me fight a top-ranked opponent.’ But then he gets Thomas Almeida, who was on the shelf for a couple years. Then he gets on a (losing) streak and he knocks him out. But it takes him three rounds to do it against the guy that is coming off the coach (Kris Moutinho). Talk about that. And then also, Eddie Wineland, who was also kind of just like off the couch for a long time, already at the tail-end of his career. (He) knocks him out. OK, cool. That kind of doesn’t really get no brownie points from me.”

Yanez believes his win over Grant is better than any of O’Malley’s.

“If you go out there and starch someone like Davey Grant,” Yanez said. “… Davey Grant can take a shot. He can take a hard shot. Man, if you go against someone who is a fighter like Chito. If you go against someone like Chito, and then he goes out there and just kind of plays with him and toys with him and knocks him out on the ground. I don’t know. There’s ups and downs with that, man. Then also, too, whenever he fought Kris Moutinho, he had the chance to fight a guy, who I think was ranked at the time, Ricky Simon. He had the chance to fight him but then doesn’t fight him. I don’t know. Something, I don’t know. But also, I’d be down to fight him. I don’t care. They’d have to pay me more. He’s always about the money. I am about the money, too, because I’ve got a family to feed.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

O’Malley has work to do before he can even think about a fight with Yanez. ‘Suga’ will square off against #15 ranked bantamweight Raulian Paiva at UFC 269 on December 11.

Sean O’Malley Offers To ‘Take Care Of’ Petr Yan For Conor McGregor

From one Irishman to another, Sean O’Malley has the back of Conor McGregor.

McGregor recently found himself in a bit of a spat with bantamweight champion Petr Yan after saying that he was the best boxer in the UFC instead of Max Holloway. Yan did not appreciate that take from the former champ-champ, saying that the two of them could throw down in the gym to determine who the better boxer was, regardless of their difference in weight.

It looks like Conor McGregor does not have to worry about that challenge anymore though, as Suga’ Sean O’Malley is here to save the day. In the comments of the challenge from Yan, the bantamweight prospect tagged McGregor in his tweet, saying that he can take care of the bantamweights and that the superstar need not worry himself about it.

“@TheNotoriousMMA let me take care of these little dudes,” O’Malley wrote.

To be clear, Sean O’Malley is not even ranked at this point of his career, so he is still a ways away from fighting Petr Yan. That said, a popular and marketable fighter like him only needs a few marquee victories to be considered in the conversation of top contenders.

Yan has recently stated that antics such as these are done by O’Malley strictly for attention. Either way, for him to offer to take care of the former champ’s light work, so to speak, is exactly what you would expect to see from someone so brazen.

Outspoken UFC bantamweight rising star Sean O’Malley has gotten himself involved in a Twitter beef between Conor Mcgregor and Petr Yan.

‘Suga’ has shown his support for the ‘Notorious’ one and has seemingly gone after the whole bantamweight division, suggesting that Mcgregor doesn’t need to worry about these “little dudes” and he will “deal with them”.

This whole feud started when a Twitter user tweeted their top five boxers in the UFC which included both Mcgregor and Yan, this caused a response from the former dual-weight champion who said he had already outboxed three of the other five fighters on the list before adding, “Yan is good but he would rip him up”.

Not to be held back by Mcgregor, Yan would fire back with a tweet of his own before O’Malley butted in.

With Mcgregor now sporting a record of 22-6 and being on a two-fight losing streak coming off back-to-back losses to fellow lightweight Dustin Poirer, this comeback fight could be the most important of his career. However, the Irishman has vowed to come back stronger than ever and can be seen through his social media training hard for his comeback.

Yan is just coming off his win over fellow lightweight contender Cory Sandhagen with him also winning the interim bantamweight title in the process, he will now be looking to win become the undisputed bantamweight champion once again after previously losing that tag in controversial fashion when he squared off against Aljamain Sterling earlier this year.

What’s next for Sean O’Malley?

O’Malley’s next fight will be at UFC 269 against Raulian Pavia who is currently riding a two-fight win streak and could be a challenge for ‘Suga’ who is looking to carry on his own win streak after suffering his first and only career loss in 2020.

Petr Yan has no time for games when it comes to Sean O’Malley.

Yan was expected to be trying to regain his undisputed bantamweight title at UFC 267 after dropping it to Aljamain Sterling through disqualification earlier this year. However, when Sterling was forced out due to lingering issues with neck surgery, Cory Sandhagen agreed to step up and fight the former champ for interim gold in a bout where Yan would emerge victorious to become the interim champion.

Before the fight with Sandhagen was made though, Sean O’Malley seemingly volunteered to fight Yan, but the Russian was not convinced this was a sincere callout. Speaking in an interview on The MMA Hour, he said that O’Malley only called him out to get attention and keep his name relevant.

“Right now, he knows it’s impossible for him to get this fight (with Yan). So, everything he says now is just for attention, it’s just to be in media. All the reasons why he’s in the media is only the color of his hair… It’s the main reason he gets attention, you know; his crazy hair and with his crazy talk. He’s not even in top 15.”

In the past, Sean O’Malley has made it quite clear that he has no intentions of facing anyone ranked if he can avoid it, as long as he is getting paid what he currently makes, so it is possible that Petr Yan has a point. On the other hand, the chance to fight the former champ, who many believe is still the best fighter in the division, is one that few in their right mind would choose to pass up.

O’Malley Claims Inevitable Yan Fight Will Be A Pay-Per-View Headliner

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley thinks a fight with interim champion Petr Yan is inevitable, and believes it will be a “massive” pay-per-view main event when it happens.

Last Saturday, Yan took a sizable step towards reversing the damage done by the illegal knee he delivered to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259. In March this year, “No Mercy” was hoping to make his first title defense. After a comfortable and controlled three rounds, he looked minutes away from doing just that. However, after connecting a knee to a downed Sterling’s head, Yan was disqualified and watched “Funk Master” leave the Octagon with the 135-pound belt.

After his chance to exact revenge last month was delayed due to the champion’s withdrawal from their scheduled rematch, Yan faced top contender Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267. After a five-round war, the Russian had his hand raised via unanimous decision, and had UFC gold wrapped around his waist again, albeit an interim one strap.

O’Malley: Sandhagen Fight Helps Us Develop Yan Gameplan

One man who was incredibly impressed with Yan’s performance was Sean O’Malley. Despite being unranked and having never faced an opponent inside the top 15, “Sugar” has managed to keep himself in conversation with the champion and top contenders through his personality and presence on social media. He’d even thrown his name into the hat to replace Sterling at UFC 267.

Discussing Yan on a recent episode of the TimboSugarShow, O’Malley attributed the Russian’s success to his adaptability. According to the rising bantamweight star, “No Mercy” belongs with the likes of Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya in the pound-for-pound top three.

“Adaptability (is his biggest strength). I mean, his boxing obviously, but the way he can fucking adapt to losing to Aljo in the first, losing to Cory in the first, losing to José Aldo in the first. Getting outstruck massively… He’s gotta be pound-for-pound top three, right? I think Kamaru’s probably #1, Izzy’s up there right now. It probably goes Kamaru, Izzy, Petr.”

As well as lauding Yan for his performance, O’Malley suggested seeing the interim champ go five rounds with Sandhagen has allowed him and his coach Tim Welch to prepare a better gameplan for when he’s matched up with Yan. According to the 26-year-old, that clash is certain to happen, and will be a “massive” pay-per-view headliner.

“So, it’s cool though, it’s good to see all this, it just gives us a better gameplan. ‘Cos me and Petr are gonna fight someday and it’s gonna be a massive fight. It’s gonna be a fucking pay-per-view headliner; massive fight. Whether it’s 2023, 2024, whatever the fuck, whenever the fuck, it is, it’s gonna be massive.”

Marlon Vera: Sean O’Malley ‘Can Go F—k Himself’

Marlon Vera has had enough of the dismissive comments of Sean O’Malley.

Marlon Vera has had enough of the dismissive comments of Sean O’Malley.

One of the biggest wins to come in the career of “Chito” Vera was also his most controversial. When taking on “Suga'” Sean O’Malley at UFC 252, last August, he got a TKO after a leg kick numbed the nerves in O’Malley’s ankle, leading to him falling to the ground and succumbing to ground and pound from the Ecudorian.

Ever since that fight, which was the first loss of O’Malley’s career, he denied that Vera had ever beaten him, regularly throwing shade his way and constantly saying that he is still undefeated. It would seem that “Chito” has had enough though, as when asked about it during the UFC 268 media scrum, he had some quite aggressive language about O’Malley, saying that he does not care what “Suga'” has to say.

“I said it many times before, we are in the times where everything is (about) clout. Everything is like… who you hang out with. I don’t give a shit what he says, I knocked him out. You can say whatever you want, you can make fun of it, but at the end of the day he’s going to bed every night knowing I put him out,” Vera said.

“We can talk crazy shit. I can use my social media and just say crazy shit, and I know people will like that, but I keep it real. I like to be real, I like to say facts, and I earned everything I have in my life by going forward and going hard. So he can go fuck himself.”

While an eventual rematch between the two is far from out of the question, they are on different paths in their careers at the moment. Marlon Vera is set to take on number eight ranked Frankie Edgar, as he continues to try chipping away at the bantamweight ranks, while Sean O’Malley does not seem particularly interested in facing ranked fighters at the current rate of pay that he is making.
