Jake Shields has yet to enter the UFC octagon for the first time, but less than two weeks from his debut, UFC president Dana White has added an extra incentive for him to win.

According to White, Shields may well be the No. 1 contender in waiting.

“If Jake Shields wins against Martin Kampmann, it’ll probably be him next,” White said when asked about the next man in line to compete for the welterweight title after the scheduled Georges St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck title fight in December.

Does Jason Macdonald Fight For UFC Canada Only?

Middleweight Jason Macdonald has signed on for UFC 124 to face Rafael Natal (yeah, we don’t know who he is either). This is the first fight in seven months for Macdonald who was sidelined with a vicious leg-break break incurred from his UFC 113 bout against John Salter. This will be Macdonald’s 3rd […]

This will be Macdonald’s 3rd UFC fight in a row taking place in Canada since he was re-contracted with the promotion. And before he was cut in 2009, he had lost to Nate Quarry in Montreal at UFC 97. We realize that Macdonald is a Canada native, but by only booking him for Canada based fights, is Dana White just using him to sell tickets to the local fan base? Are White and Joe Silva essentially saying no one in the States really cares about you Jason Macdonald? And do you? Do you care?
