Max Holloway downplays the idea that his next fight will be his hardest as he prepares to make his next title defense in early December.

The UFC featherweight champ is slated to headline the upcoming UFC 231 pay-per-view event against Brian Ortega. Once this fight got booked, the early betting odds had Holloway listed as a slim -130 favorite and Ortega at +110.

As a result, this led to fans thinking that this will be a close fight and have a difficult time predicting a winner. It turns out Holloway has a different mindset. In fact, he thinks that his gameplan will make his performance look easy.

“I’m going to go out there and do what I do best,” Holloway told MMAjunkie. “I’m going to open the door for you. Whenever you’re ready, grab your hand and walk you through it. Thank you, come again. People keep saying this is going to be one of my hardest fights. I’m going to go out there and make people like, ‘What was that?’ That’s my game plan.”

Ready For Any Challenger

The UFC 231 pay-per-view is set to take place on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The UFC featherweight champion continued by stating that he’s willing to fight anyone, which is a good mindset to have. This is due to to the fact that Renato Moicano will be on standby to fill in for the main event.

“I would take him on three hours’ notice,” Holloway said. “I’ll take you on an hour’s notice. I don’t care. Everyone was like, ‘The Khabib (Nurmagomedov) fight, you’re crazy for taking this on a weeks’ notice.’ Look, they’re taking the fight with me. You’re taking a fight with me. I don’t care who it is. Whoever. They’ve got to remember who they’re fighting. Who they’re fighting against. That’s me.”

Valentina Shevchenko Believes Their History Is Affecting Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Valentina Shevchenko believes that their history is affecting Joanna Jedrzejczyk heading into their title fight at UFC 231.

Valentina Shevchenko believes that certain history is affecting former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk heading into their title fight. The two UFC stars are slated to co-headline the UFC 231 pay-per-view event. They will fight it out to see who will be crowned the UFC women’s flyweight champion.

For those who may not know, Shevchenko holds three victories over Jedrzejczyk in Muay Thai. Thus, she brought this history up during a recent interview with MMA Fighting.

“She can say that it’s not affecting her, but yes — it’s affecting her,” Shevchenko said of her victories over Jedrzejczyk. “We are saying sometimes that fighters can say whatever, but what they are feeling inside is totally different. And it’s affecting everything. It’s affecting everyone, for sure.”

The former women’s bantamweight title contender was supposed to fight Nicco Montano for the UFC women’s flyweight title in the co-main event of UFC 228. But this fight got canceled once it was revealed that Nicco Montano was hospitalized for kidney function issues. Thus, they made the title vacant and got a new opponent for Shevchenko.

“I don’t think that it will be much different,” Shevchenko said of how this fight will play out compared to their previous fights. “Of course, she is going to feel healthier, because she doesn’t have to cut. But I don’t think it’s gonna be much different for me in the face of Joanna. Of course, she will have more energy, but it doesn’t matter for me.”

Things Have Changed

The UFC 231 pay-per-view is set to take place on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Shevchenko did admit that their previous fights were years ago. However, that doesn’t prevent her from having an edge coming into their next fight.

“Of course it was years ago,” Shevchenko continued. “Of course she changed, she improved as a fighter, same as me. I’ve improved as a mixed martial arts fighter. But at the end of the day, in the final it doesn’t matter. All experience, it will help. And each experience I get from that fight, it will help me to win this fight.”

An alternate has been named for Max Holloway and Brian Ortega’s featherweight title match-up at UFC 231.

“Blessed” will defend his 145-pound strap against “T-City” in the pay-per-view’s (PPV) main event on December 8th in Toronto. However, there is a bit of concern behind this fight. Holloway has had issues making it to the cage as of late. He was originally set to challenge for the lightweight title at UFC 223 in April.

However, Holloway was not medically cleared by the commission to go through with the fight. Also, Holloway was removed from his initially scheduled fight with Ortega at UFC 226 due to concussion-like symptoms. Now, it seems like Holloway has figured his medical issues out, and will now be able to fight against Ortega in December.

Just in case things go wrong, however, the UFC has announced that rising featherweight prospect Renato Moicano has been named as the fight’s alternate. Moicano will step in should anything go wrong with either Holloway or Ortega. The Brazilian was initially set to compete on the card against Mirsad Bektic.

However, Bektic was forced to withdraw from the fight, leaving Moicano without an opponent. Now, Moicano has the opportunity to fight for a 145-pound title should something go wrong with the main event.

Max Holloway confident that he’ll be able to not only make it to his next fight but also compete at the UFC 231 pay-per-view event. Holloway is slated to defend his title against top contender Brian Ortega in the headliner of this show.

Back in July, Holloway was set to make his next title defense against the top contender in the co-main event of the UFC 226 pay-per-view event. Obviously, that didn’t happen as Holloway was forced to pull out of the fight. The reason for it was due to him experiencing concussion-like symptoms.

“We’ve got an ongoing investigation, so I’ve been told not to comment on everything yet,” Holloway said in an ESPN interview this week. “The UFC and Toronto commission has my medicals and said we’re good to go, so I ain’t worried about it. People are going to ask and be concerned, and I love people for that.”

The UFC 231 pay-per-view is set to take place on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The UFC featherweight champion continued by stating that no one should worry about his status for this event. Instead, just like him, they should look forward to fight week.

“We’re going to make it, man,” Holloway assured. “No ‘knock on wood’ or anything like that. I’m blessed. Things have been unfortunate this year, but I’m in a good place right now. I can’t put into words the energy we have, everything is great. I can’t wait for fight week. It’s been way too long.”
