Jimmie Rivera will not be fighting Marlon Vera at UFC 247.

MMA Junkie has confirmed that Rivera pulled from the scheduled bout due to an undisclosed injury. The UFC has not yet made an official announcement. It also remains unknown if Vera will stay on the card or receive a new opponent. UFC 247 goes down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on February 8.

The card is headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between defending champion Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes. Rivera is currently on a two-fight losing streak to names such as Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan. At one point in his career, Rivera was on a 20-fight win streak, not having lost since 2008. However, in June of 2018, Marlon Moraes ended that with a first-round knockout via head-kick.

After picking up a decision win over John Dodson the following September, Rivera is now on a two-fight losing skid. As for Vera, the No. 14-ranked bantamweight is on a five-fight win streak. A win over a name like Rivera will certainly propel him into a new tier of competition.

Check out the updated UFC 247 card below.

Main Card (PPV, 10 p.m. ET):

  • Light heavyweight: (C) Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes
  • Women’s flyweight: (C) Valentina Shevchenko vs. Katlyn Chookagian

Derrick Lewis will be making his return to the Octagon by welcoming a notable name to the heavyweight division.

Lewis will take on Ilir Latifi at the UFC 247 pay-per-view (PPV) on February 8 from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Latifi is a member of American Top Team (ATT), a gym “The Black Beast” is all too familiar with. Lewis faced off against ATT’s Shawn Jordan in 2015, Junior dos Santos last March, and has had verbal back-and-forths with Greg Hardy.

Speaking on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast, Lewis joked that ATT has a hit out on him. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“I’m guessing (Latifi called for a fight with me) because I heard he’s training at American Top Team,” Lewis said. “All of those guys have been calling me out left and right. Just about everybody over there – Greg Hardy, him, Junior Dos Santos. What’s the other guy’s name – the crazy one that just fought? Colby …

“They got a hit out on me. Even Shawn Jordan (was) over there, too. They’ve been training for me for years – all their guys. Just about every guy over there I’ve fought already. They feel like they’ve got the recipe out on me.”

As for why the ATT heavyweights have it out for Lewis, he believes the group sees him as the easiest fight in the top five.

“They look at me like the weakest in the top-five – a more easy fight for them,” Lewis said. “That’s how I look at it.”

What do you think about Lewis saying ATT has a hit out on him? Who are you picking between Lewis and Latifi at UFC 247?

Sean O’Malley is back.

After having last competed at UFC 222 back in March 2018, “Sugar” announced he would be returning at UFC 247 which takes place February 8 in Houston, Texas.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, O’Malley posted a photo of himself alongside Jose Quinonez who is seemingly his opponent. As per MMA Junkie, the matchup is confirmed.

“MERRY CHRISTMAS MOTHA F*CKAS. I promise 2020 is my year,” O’Malley wrote as the caption. “I’m coming back and taking over. I can’t wait for you guys to feel the energy I’m bringing into the Octagon Feb 8th in Texas.”

Although the fight is not officially confirmed by the UFC, one can expect an announcement soon.

O’Malley’s long absence can be attributed to a leg injury he suffered in his last win over Andre Soukhamthath. Afterwards, he had to deal with United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) ordeals after testing positive for traces of ostarine. At the time, he was scheduled to face Quinonez at UFC 229.

O’Malley tested positive for ostarine again ahead of his UFC 239 fight with Marlon Vera earlier this year which kept him on the sidelines further. However, they were remnants from his previous failed test so he was suspended, but didn’t receive any sanctions.

Hopefully, he can get his career back on track in the new year.

Are you excited to see O’Malley return?
