The confusion continues as Darren Till claims he has agreed to a fight with Jared Cannonier at UFC 248.
Till was expected to step in for Robert Whittaker and face Cannonier on the main card of the event taking place March 7 in Las Vegas. However, it hasn’t come to fruition yet with reports of Till waiting to get the right deal.
But in response to a video interview of Cannonier being asked about the fight, Till revealed that he’s already said yes to the bout and that he’s ready to compete.
“I’ve said yes ! I’m ready !” Till tweeted. “This fight will complete the March 7th card ! I massively respect killa but I’m gonna whoop him ! #Gorillas ”
The Liverpool native proceeded to tweet a picture of Cannonier cupping his ear soon after.
UFC 248 is headlined by a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero. It also features a women’s strawweight title fight as well as the return of bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley.
The addition of Cannonier vs. Till would make it even more stacked.
UFC president Dana White is open to having Jared Cannonier serve as the backup for the UFC 248 main event on March 7. The event will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between current champion Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero. Cannonier was initially scheduled to fight former champion Robert Whittaker on the card. However, […]

The event will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between current champion Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero. Cannonier was initially scheduled to fight former champion Robert Whittaker on the card.
However, the latter had to pull out for undisclosed personal reasons. There was then talk of Darren Till potentially stepping in to face Cannonier, but that also hasn’t come to fruition with the Liverpool native holding out for the right deal.
As it stands, “The Killa Gorilla” is in limbo and even White is unsure if a fight with Till will take place on the card.
But White was open to having Cannonier serve as the backup for the main event should he not compete on the card. Romero has had a history of missing weight in the past and if that happens again, Cannonier would be in prime position to step in.
“Yeah, yeah,” White replied when asked if he would use Cannonier as the backup.
What do you think of Cannonier being the backup for the UFC 248 main event?

Both men headline the UFC 248 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 7, 2020. In the co-main event, UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang puts her title on the line against former division queen Joanna J?drzejczyk. However, today’s presser will only feature the main event competitors. It will be interesting to see what the two have to say to one another.
As the coronavirus outbreak continues, Chinese fighters such as Weili Zhang are continuing to take precautions to ensure they make their next fight. Zhang is set to defend her women’s strawweight title against Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event of UFC 248 on March 7. And in order to avoid any troubles getting into the United States, she, along with Li Jingliang and Xiaonan Yan have departed for Thailand.
With the TSA implementing a new ban on non-US citizens who have been in China within 14 days of their travel, the trio plan on staying in Thailand for two weeks to get around the rule.
“It’s the quarantine because of the virus,” Zhang’s jiu-jitsu coach Pedro Jordao told MMA Fighting. “You can’t enter America otherwise.”
Li competes on the same card as Zhang, while Yan will be competing at UFC Auckland on February 23. Li and Yan are in Pattaya while Zhang is currently in Bangkok according to MMA Fighting.
The coronavirus outbreak was identified in Wuhan, China, in early December of last year with over 24,500 confirmed cases since including 493 deaths. A number of other countries along with China have also confirmed cases including the United States.

There has been a ton of speculation about Darren Till and whether or not he’s going to be fighting at UFC 248, as well as whether or not he’s dealing with an injury.
Many were disappointed to hear that Till won’t be competing at the UFC London card next month, which will be headlined by Tyron Woodley vs. Leon Edwards. However, it was then reported that Till will fight Jared Cannonier at the UFC 248 pay-per-view (PPV) next month. The show goes down on March 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, conflicting reports have been surfacing as to why Till isn’t fighting Cannonier. Some say Till is injured and others say the Englishman’s camp is struggling to negotiate with the UFC on the financial side of things. While Till has since denied being injured, he tells Fight Disciples that he has, in fact, been dealing with an ankle injury over time, but he’s been working through it. (H/T MMA Junkie)
“You know me – always niggles,” Till said. “My ankle is just a bit niggly. It’s just a little floating injury I’ve always had. … I’m just training and working through it. I’m just training like I’ve got a fight at the moment. I trained right through Christmas. I’ve been training since my last fight, to be honest. I had a week or two off.
“Right up until this point I’ve been saying it: I’m ready to fight. If the call comes, I don’t have to cut too much weight. I’ll be 90 percent ready.”
As for Till’s potential fight with Cannonier at UFC 248, the card, headlined by a middleweight title bout between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero, already has 13 fights scheduled. “The Gorilla” said he thinks there’s a “50/50” chance he’ll compete on the card. He also looks forward to fighting a “scary” opponent in Cannonier.
“I think right now maybe 50/50,” Till said. “Openly, I know the UFC has been speaking to my manager and trying to sort out something – a good deal to get the fight going. All I can say to you – and I’m very honest – is I hope the fight comes off.
“I want to fight the best. I want to fight the scariest dudes. Cannonier is definitely one of them, so hopefully we can sort something (out). I want to get that title this year. I want to start cementing my name.”
Do you think Till will ultimately compete at UFC 248?
