UFC Welterweight Bout: Dan Hardy vs. Amir Sadollah

Odds: (-210 Hardy /+170 Sadollah )

Betting Pick:  Hardy

Bet on this fight at Bovada.Iv

In the semi-main event, Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah will square off against heavy-handed English slugger Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy. Hardy, coming off the first win in his last five fights, is nevertheless one of the most dangerous and dynamic power punchers in UFC’s Welterweight division. Sadollah lacks on attribute as dominant as Hardy’s power punching, but he is a much steadier competitor with a better overall fight game. If Hardy wants to avoid his fifth loss in six fights, he is going to have to get back to what made him a contender to begin with, namely his superb boxing. If this fight plays out on the ground, Hardy is probably slick enough to survive, but there is little question that Sadollah should be able to control the pace and position well enough to hand Hardy a loss.

Amir Sadollah, who shocked nearly everyone by defeating heavy favorite C.B. Dolloway twice to win the Ultimate Fighter, came into the show without a single professional bout to his credit. Since then, he has carved out a decent niche for himself in UFC’s Welterweight division, winning 6 of his 9 fights, most of those by decision. Sadollah is interesting in that he doesn’t have any really dominant strengths, but he also doesn’t have any glaring holes in his game. Sadollah is a steady, workmanlike competitor who doesn’t give up anything major and takes what opportunities he can get. Against Hardy, he is obviously going to have to be wary of the power punches, but he has more than enough versatility to take Hardy off his game and outpoint him as long as he is careful.

Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy is one of the most dangerous and inconsistent strikers in the UFC. When he is on his game, his boxing and power punching are overwhelming to his opponents, but he is also prone to turning in uninspired and downright horrible performances. Against Sadollah he will be able to let his hands go freely, because Sadollah doesn’t have the firepower to match him and isn’t a dominant enough wrestler to really make him worry about overcommitting. If Hardy comes out committed to his striking game, I think this fight is his to lose.

I really don’t see Sadollah presenting many problems for Hardy. Although he is clearly a striker, Hardy showed against Georges St. Pierre that he is very adept at avoiding bad spots on the ground and finding a way to wiggle out back to his feet. Considering that Sadollah has no answer for Hardy’s power standing and that I don’t think Sadollah can consistently hold Hardy down, I expect Hardy to take this one by way of a fairly one-sided unanimous decision.

Prediction:  Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy by Unanimous Decision.

On Saturday, October 13, 2012, UFC 153 will air live from the HBSC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the main event of the evening, Middleweight champion Anderson Silva will return to the Light Heavyweight division to square off against Ultimate Fighter Season 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar. Both of these guys stepped up at the last minute after the original main event was scrapped due to Featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s foot injury. Silva is the most dominant Middleweight of all time, but he has proven that he can get the job done at Light Heavyweight as well. He already holds a spectacular knockout victory over former Light Heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, the man who beat Bonnar in the Ultimate Fighter finals in one of UFC’s most historic barn-burners. Bonnar has to be commended for taking a fight like this on short notice, but it’s hard to imagine that he is doing anything but signing up to get destroyed here.

In the semi-main event, Brazilian legend and former PRIDE and UFC Interim Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira will do battle with oversized Heavyweight slugger Dave Herman. Nogueira made a career out of taking brutal punishment, surviving, and then pulling out spectacular come from behind wins, but in recent performances some of his famed durability seems to have slipped away. If Herman can pull off the upset, it would be the biggest win of his career and an amazing way to halt a disappointing two-fight skid. Rounding out the card will be a Light Heavyweight showdown between Brazilians Glover Teixeira and Fabio Maldonado, a Welterweight matchup between Jon Fitch and Erick Silva, and another 205 pound showcase pitting Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis against Brazil’s Wagner “Caldeirao” Prado.

UFC Flyweight Title Fight: Joseph Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson

Odds: ( -285 Benavidez / +225 Johnson )

Betting Pick:  Benavidez

Bet on this fight at Bovada.Iv

In the semi-main event of the evening, Joseph Benavidez will square off against Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in a fight that will crown UFC’s first-ever Flyweight champion. Benavidez earned his shot at the belt with a one-sided TKO over Yasuhiro Urushitani, while Johnson had to survive two close, hard-fought bouts with Ian McCall. Both of these guys are versatile, dangerous fighters who can get the job done standing and on the mat, and both of them are hungry to become the inaugural UFC flyweight champion, so this has all the makings of an extremely competitive and exciting title fight.

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson is a very well-rounded and dangerous fighter who made a big splash at 135 pounds despite being severely undersized for the division. At 125, his more natural weight, he no longer has to worry about entering every fight with a size disadvantage, and that should make him a top player in the division for a long time to come. He had two great bouts against “Uncle Creepy” Ian McCall, the first of which ended in a draw and the second of which he escaped with a decision victory. Johnson has never been finished in his career and is a very dynamic offensive fighter as well. His ground game is very good and his punching is accurate and fast, although it does lack some power. Against Benavidez, Johnson will enjoy a speed and technique advantage on the feet, but he is going to have to be wary of Benavidez’s superior power punching. On the ground, Johnson is excellent, but I think in terms of finishing ability with submissions the edge goes to Benavidez again. Johnson’s best gameplan to capture the title will be to keep this fight in constant motion, landing shots on the feet, taking Benavidez down briefly but not sitting on top of him too long, and not being content to work off his back.

Joseph Benavidez left no doubt that he was a top contender in UFC’s new Flyweight division when he pounded out Yasuhiro Urushitani 11 seconds into the second round of their title qualifier. Like Johnson, Benavidez had great success in a division where he was noticeably undersized. He has tasted defeat only twice as a professional, and both of those losses were razor-thin decisions against current 135 pound kingpin Dominick Cruz. Benavidez is not quite as technical or as quick as Johnson, but he makes up for it by having superior finishing skills. I would give Benavidez a marked edge over Johnson in terms of punching power, and his submissions are probably better too. His best bet if he wants to win this title is to make this a physical, grueling brawl. If he lets Johnson dance around on the outside and control position, he is going to have trouble keeping up with “Mighty Mouse’s” speed and technique. If he can get inside and land some power shots, though, and force Johnson to work off his back a bit, I think his superior submission game and punching power could wear Johnson down and put him in a great position to win.

One thing is for sure, and that is that this will be a very competitive affair. Both of these guys are athletic, fast, aggressive, and hungry and neither of them has any real glaring holes in his game. That said, I think the slight edge here goes to Benavidez, who is the more physical of the two and has more potential to turn the tide of the fight quickly both standing and on the ground. Johnson will very likely outland Benavidez on the feet, but Benavidez’s punching is going to have more impact when he does land. I think Johnson is going to have to fight a little more carefully than he usually does just because Benavidez is such a threat to finish both standing and on the ground, and that is going to present opportunities for Benavidez to capitalize on. I see this fight going the distance, but Benavidez should land the more meaningful punches and control position a little more effectively. Benavidez by unanimous decision.

Prediction:  Joseph Benavidez by Unanimous Decision.

In the main event of the evening, undefeated Heavyweight Travis “Hapa” Browne will face the toughest challenge of his career as he squares off against former Strikeforce Heavyweight champion Antonio “Bigfoot”Silva. These are two huge Heavyweights With massive punching power and some of the best ground games in the division. Silva is coming off two straight losses, but they are both to world-class opponents, and there is no question that he is the toughest and most dangerous fighter Browne has ever had to face. “Hapa” is going to need a career performance if he wants to keep his unbeaten professional record intact, and you know that Silva is hungry for his first win in the UFC, so this has all the makings of a great main event.

In the semi-main event, Jay Hieron makes his first UFC appearance since 2005 against talented Welterweight Jake “The Juggernaut”Ellenberger. Hieron has spent the last few years fighting in IFL, Strikeforce, and Bellator, and was widely considered one of the best Welterweights outside of the UFC. Now, he will jump right back into the deep end of UFC’s 170 pound division against one of the toughest opponents he has ever faced. The rest of the card will feature Josh “The Dentist” Neer facing off with Jorge Gurgel disciple Justin Edwards and Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens against the “Thug jitsu Master”himself, Yves Edwards.

Current UFC On Fuel TV 5 Betting Lines – On Saturday, September 29, 2012, the fifth installment of the UFC on FUEL TV series will hit the air from Nottingham, England’s Capital FM Arena. In the main event of the evening, towering Dutch Heavyweight Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve will square off against undefeated prospect Stipe Miocic. Struve is a tall, rangy fighter with spectacular submissions who uses his length and reach to great effect. His striking is extremely dangerous, but he isn’t the most durable fighter in the world, and the undefeated Miocic has the kind of power and striking technique that could make him pay dearly for any mistakes. If Struve wants to put the first blemish on Miocic’s professional record, he is going to have to fight mistake-free and keep the Strong Style Fight Team representative at bay with his huge reach and crisp punching.

In the semi-main event, Nottingham’s own Dan “The Outlaw”Hardy will look to make it two wins in a row as he squares off against Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah in a Welterweight showdown. Hardy dropped a ridiculous four fights in a row before winning in his last outing, but he has the kind of knockout power than can end a fight at any moment. Sadollah is a much steadier fighter, but he lacks the one explosive trait like Hardy’s striking that sets him apart, so he is going to need to weather a storm and fight smart if he wants to spoil Hardy’s hometown return. Rounding out the card,Englishman Brad “One Punch” Pickett will face Yves Jabouin at Bantamweight,Liverpool’s Paul Sass will try to figure out versatile Lightweight “Handsome”Matt Wiman, and British Welterweights John Maguire and John Hathaway will each try to earn a win in their home country.

In the main event of the evening, Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will meet to crown the UFC’s first-ever Flyweight champion. Benavidez cruised through his first title tournament bout, while Johnson had to fight his way through two hard-fought battles with Ian McCall. Benavidez is a big, physical guy whose only career losses came to 135 pound king Dominick Cruz, so if Johnson wants to finish what he started he is going to have to fight even better than he did against McCall.
