UFC 172 Betting

UFC is one of the most exciting sports in the world. The only thing better than watching two top athletes match their skills head to head is getting paid to do do it. That’s why we’re offering this handy guide to help you maximize your profits betting on UFC 172. Since UFC gives out bonus awards for the best fights, we’re giving out our own awards for the best money-making bets.

Parlay of the Night: Jim Miller (-210), Danny Castillo (-300), and Phil Davis (-250) – A $50 bet will payout $87.00 @Bovada.Iv Odds

Parlay betting is one of the highest-reward options for UFC betting. You pick more than one winner, and in order to win the bet, all of your picks must win. Obviously it’s harder to pick more winning fighters, and so the payoff from a successful parlay is much larger. UFC 172 has a great opportunity for a parlay bet in the trio of Miller, Castillo, and Davis. All three are heavy favorites, which means individual bets on them wouldn’t offer much reward. By adding them together, you can massively boost your potential payout. Head over to bovada.lv and turn UFC 172 into a big moneymaker for you.

Lock of the Night:  Phil Davis (-250) over Anthony Johnson – A $50 bet will pay out $20 or use Davis in a parlay @Bovada.Iv Odds

Favorite of the Night with the Lowest Odds: Andre Fili (-160) over Max Holloway – A $50 bet will payout $31.00 @Bovada.Iv Odds

Betting on a favorite doesn’t offer the same reward as picking underdogs, but sometimes a nice safe lock is a good way to turn a profit on an event. At UFC 172, the safest bet is Andre Fili at -160 over Max Holloway. Fili is a devastating striker with a better-rounded offense than Holloway. Bovada.lv has you covered with the best odds on UFC 172′s best betting opportunity.

Prop of the Night: Jon “Bones” Jones to win in Under 3.5 Rounds (-145) – A $50 bet pays out $34.00 @Betonline.com Odds

Straight bets aren’t the only way to make money betting on MMA. Prop, or proposition bets, tend to offer a huge value. Our friends over at BETONLINE are offering a straight bet on Jon Jones to retain his UFC title in the first half of his fight. Teixeira is tough, but Jones has a tendency to overwhelm even the best opponents quickly, so this is a great value bet for the main event of UFC 172.

Underdog of the Night: Patrick Williams (+110) over Chris Beal (-140) – A $50 bet will payout $55.00 @Bovada.Iv Odds

Both of these guys are relative unknowns making their UFC debut. Beal’s undefeated record has him as the betting favorite, but Williams is a more prolific finisher and has fought better opponents. At +110, Williams is the night’s most attractive underdogg.

Longshot of the Night: Isaac Vallie-Flagg (+175) over Takanori Gomi (-225) – A $25 bet will pay out $44.00 @Bovada.Iv Odds

The key to success in betting on UFC is to be consistent and avoid big risks. The only way to get big payouts, though, is to take some bigger risks. Gomi is a heavy favorite here, but part of that is due to his name recognition. This isn’t the same Gomi who dominated PRIDE, and at +175 Vallie-Flagg is a very interesting value pick.

On Saturday, February 23, 2013, UFC 157 will air live from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The main event of the evening features the first-ever women’s MMA fight in UFC history as undefeated armbar machine Ronda Rousey squares off against heavy-handed veteran Liz “Girl-rilla” Carmouche. Rousey has looked dominant, winning all 6 of her professional fights by first-round armbar, with five of those wins coming inside the first minute. If Carmouche wants to spoil Rousey’s big show debut, she is going to have to find a way to neutralize Rousey’s ground game, something no one else has managed to do.

In the semi-main event, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida will meet former PRIDE two-division champion Dan “Hollywood” Henderson. Machida is a surgical striker with a defensive counter-punching style, while Henderson is a heavy-handed wrestler who dominates in the clinch and has a destructive left hand. Rounding out the card are a Bantamweight showdown between “The California Kid” Urijah Faber and “The Pride of El Salvador” Ivan Menjivar, a Featherweight bout pitting Manny Gamburyan against Chad Mendes, and a Welterweight matchup featuring wrestler Josh Koscheck against slugger Robbie Lawler.

UFC 156 main card betting odds are out, and all the betting experts are going over the fights with fine tooth comb to maximize success for their picks. Everyone knows that there’s never a “sure thing” in the sport of MMA, but as a pro betting advocate for those who are well educated in the sport, this will be one of the more difficult events to ensure high profits.

More often than not, there’s at least one fight in which the majority of analysts agree on who should reign victorious. In this case, that choice is not so obvious, as the picks are more split. So before you run to topbet.eu/sportsbook to lock in your bets, let’s take a closer look at the bouts and ponder the best fighter to put all that money on.

Joseph Benavidez  vs. Ian McCall

Current betting odds are Benavidez -270 McCall +220, which is more than a little in the favor of Benavidez. If McCall has an advantage at, it’s his speed, something that Demetrious Johnson used very effectively against Benavidez. It’s possible that the striking edge will go to McCall as well, but the skill gap is much greater in the grappling and power advantage. Putting $270 down to make a $100 profit might make some hesitate, but in reality, the odds aren’t that unusual. If you read my prior predictions, you know I picked Benavidez to get his and raised, and if I was betting on this fight, I’d put the money on “Jobi Wan Kenobi”.

Demain Maia  vs. Jon Fitch

Current betting odds are Fitch -170 Maia +150, and this is a fight that I won’t be betting on. It‘s difficult enough to call a winner in this fight, let alone try and wisely play the betting odds. Although I ultimately chose Fitch to get the win, it’s not worth the $170 risk. Same thing goes for Maia, 50/50 chance of loosing $100.

Alistair Overeem  vs. Antonio Silva

Current betting odds are Overeem -370 Silva +290, and although I’m fairly confident that Overeem will take the victory, the $370 risk for a $100 profit can make anyone second guess. Ultimately, Overeem has the size, power, and striking to finish “Big Foot” in similar fashion that Daniel Cormier was able to do. Even if Silva initiates the take down, Overeem has one heck of a guillotine. Don’t believe me? Ask Vitor Belfort. If you can muster up $370 without being financially irresponsible, I would do it.

Rashad Evans  vs. Antiono Rogerio Nogueira

Current betting odds are Evans -450 Nogueira +350, and this is my most confident pick on the card. Evans’ last fight was against the current Light heavyweight king, Jon Jones, and for how well he performed, he should be able to handle Nogueira without any problems. If Ryan Bader and Phil Davis were able to defeat Nogueira using just their wrestling, than the same should be said for Evans. The only thing that gets me down is the $450 to put down. That’s a lot of dough, but as my most confident pick, I’m biting the bullet and waiting to reap my rewards.

Jose Aldo  vs. Frankie Edgar

Current betting odds are Aldo -230 Edgar +190, and this is the first fight that I suggest betting on the underdog. Aldo has outstanding Muay Thai, but Chad Mendes had him in the air, parallel to the ground, ready for a big slam. Aldo saved himself by illegally grabbing the fence, which allowed him to stay on the feet and shortly after knock Mendes out. Frankie Edgar has the wrestling of Mendes with outstanding boxing, footwork, head movement, and cardio. It will be a close fight, but Aldo will slow as the fight progresses and Edgar will have the same pace throughout the fight. I’m not putting $230 on Aldo, but a $100 bet on Edgar to win near $200 means more money and less risk.

Agree? Disagree? Let me know. MMAFix.com has been on a roll with the predictions.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell Prediction

UFC Heavyweight Bout:  Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell

Odds:  (-120 Gonzaga /-110 Rothwell )

Betting Pick:  Rothwell

Bet on this fight at Bovada

In a featured Heavyweight matchup, Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga will square off against former IFL Champion “Big” Ben Rothwell. These are two large, physical Heavyweights with versatile skill sets, so this should be an exciting and competitive fight. Both guys have had mixed success in their UFC careers, but are capable of big time offense and match up well against each other.

Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga is a very large and dangerous Heavyweight. A long-time UFC veteran, Gonzaga is a somewhat inconsistent performer. Nevertheless, he has a lot of offensive tools in his arsenal and can finish fights standing and on the ground. He is one of the best submissions grapplers in the Heavyweight division, and while his striking is not technically superb, he has very heavy hands and hard kicks. If this is a standup fight, it is going to come down to who lands a big shot first. What Gonzaga has to do is prevent Rothwell from securing takedowns. He has great jiu-jitsu, but he is going to get mauled if he has to work off his back. He needs to try to keep this fight at a distance and use his long arms to set up big punches, or try to sneak in takedowns of his own.

“Big” Ben Rothwell, the former IFL Heavyweight champion, has been somewhat disappointing since arriving in the UFC. In his last fight, though, he made a statement when he destroyed Brendan Schaub with strikes in just over one minute. Rothwell is a tough, versatile Heavyweight with good striking, a solid chin, decent wrestling, and a dangerous top game. On the feet, he is going to need to watch out for Gonzaga’s leg kicks and big haymaker punches, but most importantly he is going to have to keep himself from getting taken down at all costs. If Gonzaga gets top position, it is highly likely that Rothwell will be forced to submit. Dictating position has to be Rothwell’s number one priority.

This has all the makings of a bruising, physical clash. Both of these guys are big, strong, and durable. Either one of them could land a knockout punch or kick at almost any point of the fight, which only adds to the intrigue. I see this one going the distance, though, with both guys dishing out punishment. Ultimately, I think the edge goes to Rothwell, who should be able to control the position and use the clinch to grind out a decision victory.

Prediction:  “Big” Ben Rothwell by Decision.

UFC Middleweight Bout:  Yushin Okami vs. Alan Belcher

Odds:  ( -115 Okami / -115 Belcher )

Betting Pick:  Okami

Bet on this fight at Bovada

In a featured Middleweight bout, Yushin “Thunder” Okami and Alan “The Talent” Belcher will meet for the second time. Their first fight, all the way back in 2006, ended with a fairly one-sided decision for Okami. Has Belcher grown enough as a fighter to even the series, or will Okami control him with superior size and physicality?

Alan “The Talent” Belcher is a versatile, dangerous Middleweight who is currently riding a four fight win streak. Not many other 185 pounders in the UFC have Belcher’s ability to end fights with strikes or submissions. He’s a solid wrestler with a strong top game and heavy, accurate punching. Against Okami, he will definitely be the smaller and less powerful fighter. He’s going to have to try to use his footwork to keep Okami at range where he can outbox him. If he allows Okami to clinch, he is going to have to fight off his back, because Okami has very dangerous leg trips from the clinch.

Yushin “Thunder” Okami, although a loser in two of his last three fights, has clearly established himself as one of the UFC’s top Middleweights over the last few years. He’s a very big Middleweight with great takedowns and excellent trips from the clinch. His boxing isn’t world-class but it is very technically solid and he has decent punching power. He’s most dangerous from top position, though. He uses his size very well to control opponents, and can do a lot of damage with ground and pound.

If Belcher can keep Okami from getting in close or taking him down, he definitely has good enough striking to win this fight. Keeping Okami from getting in close is a tall order, unfortunately. I don’t see a way for Belcher to stop Okami from bullying him into the fence, boxing from the clinch, and setting up those leg trips. Okami will outmuscle Belcher for another one-sided decision.

Prediction:  Yushin Okami by Decision.

Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez 2 Prediction

UFC Heavyweight Title Bout:  Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez Odds:  ( -200 Dos Santos / + 160 Velasquez ) Betting Pick:  Dos Santos Bet on this fight at Bovada In the main event of UFC 155, UFC Heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” dos Santos will defend his belt against former champion Cain Velasquez, the man […]

UFC Heavyweight Title Bout:  Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

Odds:  ( -200 Dos Santos / + 160 Velasquez )

Betting Pick:  Dos Santos

Bet on this fight at Bovada

In the main event of UFC 155, UFC Heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” dos Santos will defend his belt against former champion Cain Velasquez, the man he beat to earn the title. The big question heading into their first matchup was whether or not dos Santos had what it took to deal with the dominant wrestling of Velasquez. That ended up being a total non-factor, though, as dos Santos completely blitzed Velasquez with strikes en route to a very easy knockout. Will things play out differently this time around? Will Velasquez be able to get his wrestling game working and take dos Santos to the mat, or will dos Santos overwhelm him with strikes yet again?

Cain Velasquez, the former UFC Heavyweight champion, has a dangerous mix of powerful wrestling, knockout power, and amazing hand speed. He’s great in the clinch, devastating from top position, and throws much harder and faster than most UFC Heavyweights. It’s obvious, though, from watching their last fight that he does not have what it takes to stand and box with dos Santos. If he wants to have a chance in this bout, he is going to have to get his wrestling going as early as possible. If he can make dos Santos try to work off his back he is in a great position to wear him down with ground and pound and eventually win, but if he has to stand with the champion for any period of time he is going to get knocked out again.

Junior dos Santos is, without a doubt, the scariest striker in the UFC’s Heavyweight division. His boxing is fast, accurate, and devastatingly powerful. He has blitzed his way through the Heavyweight division, handling each new challenge with relative ease. Many pundits considered Velasquez a stiff challenge for dos Santos, but he knocked the former champion out in barely over a minute. In his last fight, he exploded Frank Mir, another former UFC champion, midway through the second round. If this fight plays out on the feet for any period of time, dos Santos will win. The only question is how well he will be able to work off his back if Velasquez manages to take him down consistently.

Basically, this fight comes down to whether or not Velasquez can establish his wrestling game consistently in the early rounds of the fight. If he can, it is possible that he can tire dos Santos out with smothering top control and soften him up with hard shots from top position. I don’t think that is going to happen, though. While it may last a bit longer, I think this will basically be a repeat of their last fight. Velasquez doesn’t have what it takes to stand with dos Santos, and he will have that proven to him fairly early on. Dos Santos by T/KO.

Prediction:  Junior Dos Santos by second round T/KO.
