Dwayne Johnson’s shoe brand, Project Rock, is now the official footwear partner for the UFC in a historic deal.

Johnson announced the partnership on social media. The collaboration will begin this weekend at UFC 270, the UFC’s first pay-per-view of 2022.

Johnson has been seen at many UFC events over the years, most prominently at UFC 244 ahead of the historic BMF matchup between welterweights Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. He was the centerpiece at the event’s ceremonial weigh-ins and also gave the winner, Masvidal the BMF belt after defeating Diaz.

The UFC partnership with Johnson comes at a time when the promotion’s sportswear brands are drastically changing. The UFC walked away from their deal with Reebok in 2021 and teamed up with Venom for fight kits.

Coincidentally, Reebok’s shoe deal with the UFC expired just last week. Johnson and the UFC rushed to make a deal over the last few days leading up to UFC 270.

The UFC also aired a promotional video at the beginning of their ceremonial weigh-ins, officially marking the partnership with Johnson and his company.

Dwayne Johnson’s Shoe Brand Is Official Footwear Of The UFC

Johnson and UFC president Dana White have had a relationship for years, mostly stemming from their common business interests. Now, they’ll get a chance to work together on a large scale.

Johnson is arguably one of the biggest personalities in the film industry, fitness, and also in professional wrestling. He has become a worldwide superstar and has been successful in virtually every venture he’s pursued.

It’s unclear if Johnson will be in attendance at UFC 270 this weekend, but he’ll more than likely be featured in a number of promotional content in days to come. The terms of the deal are unknown at this time.

UFC president Dana White is looking to take things virtually with his promotion, and he’s interested in doing it in just a matter of time.

White and the UFC are set to host their first pay-per-view of 2022 when heavyweights Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane square off for the unified heavyweight title. The promotion is looking forward to a successful calendar year after arguably their most promising year in 2021.

White has come up with unique ways of continuing to build the UFC’s brand, but he’s looking to up the ante. During a recent segment on the Full Send Podcast, White announced that the UFC is looking at holding an event virtually in the near future.

Dana White Teases Metaverse Plans

“We are looking to do a fight in the metaverse,” White said. “We have been working on it for a while. It will be a live fight, an actual fight that takes place inside the metaverse… Kids at home you could put on your fking goggles and you could fking get up and go walk around. You know we are still working it out but it will be soon. We will be doing a fight in the middle of the metaverse.”

White’s comments come just days after the UFC announced its partnership with Dapper Labs, an NFT company which will be available on the digital market soon. It is a massive statement to the rest of the combat sports world that the UFC is looking to move things forward and into the future.

Another angle of this story’s timing is Ngannou’s partnership with CashApp, and he’ll receive a portion of his UFC 270 in Bitcoin.

White and the UFC will more than likely announce a virtual event soon, and we’ll bring you the latest here at LowKickMMA.

Will you be willing to attend a UFC fight in the metaverse?

Neil Magny, Max Griffin

UFC welterweight contenders Neil Magny and Max Griffin will square off at the upcoming Fight Night event in Columbus, OH on March 26.

MMA journalist Marcel Dorff was among the first to report news of the booking.

Magny was expected to face fast-rising welterweight Khamzat Chimaev next, but negotiations never materialized. Now, he’ll face a tough test in the form of Griffin as the UFC slowly returns to hosting fights outside of Las Vegas.

Magny has won four of his last five inside the Octagon, including most recently against Geoff Neal at UFC Vegas 26. He’s been a mainstay in the welterweight division and has earned recent wins over the likes of Robbie Lawler and Li Jingliang.

Griffin has managed to resurrect his UFC career with three-straight wins, including arguably the biggest win of his tenure against Carlos Condit at UFC 264. He put a beating on Condit, a former title challenger who announced his retirement shortly after the bout.

The UFC is planning a big card for the promotion’s return to Ohio. The event will be headlined by a light heavyweight bloodbath between former champion Jan Blachowicz and Aleksandar Rakic. A flyweight matchup between Askar Askarov and Kai Kara-France will also be featured, along with the return of fan-favorite Matt Brown against Bryan Barberena.

Magny has a legitimate opportunity to put on an impressive performance against a solid challenger in Griffin. With a win, he could earn a fight against a top-5 welterweight for his next Octagon appearance.

As for the unranked Griffin, he’s looking to make a statement and continue his rise at 170 pounds. A win could put him right in the thick of things in the welterweight division.

What is your prediction for Neil Magny vs. Max Griffin?

Saturday night’s UFC 270 fight card from the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California is now down to just ten fights after Rodolfo Vieira and Ilia Topuria have been forced out of their respective bouts.

The announcement that the bout between Rodolfo Vieira and Wellington Turman was announced early Friday after Vieira withdrew due to an undisclosed medical issue. This caused for the fight between Trevin Giles and Michael Morales to be moved up to the UFC 270 main card.

Vieira is widely considered to be one of the best BJJ practitioners on earth and he is 6-1 as a pro with all of his wins coming via submission. His lone loss also came via submission as he was upset by Anthony ‘Fluffy’ Hernandez at UFC 258.

Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Jourdain fight was then moved into the feature prelim spot but it was announced shortly after that Topuria had also withdrawn due to medical issues that came with his weight cut.

Topuria was initially scheduled to face Movsar Evloev but Jourdain stepped in to take the fight on short notice after Evloev pulled out due to a positive COVID-19 test, much to the dismay of Topuria.

The fight between Raoni Barcelos and and Victor Henry will now serve as the feature bout on the undercard.

UFC 270 First Pay-Per-View Event Since Price Jump

The massive hit the card has taken comes just two weeks after ESPN raised the price of pay-per-views to $74.99 USD. The move was the third time that the price has been jacked up since Endeavor purchased the UFC.

The event marks the first pay-per-view of the year and the first under the new pricing format.

Do you think that the event will still be worth the price or do these withdrawals leave too much of a gap in the UFC 270 card?

The ongoing back and forth on social media between Jake Paul and Dana White is being put to rest once and for all, at least according to the UFC President.

White set the record straight in an appearance on the Full Send Podcast that was released Thursday, ensuring fans that this would be the last time you’d be hearing him talk about Paul.

“It’s not that he doesn’t have my respect. I don’t even know the kid, at the end of the day,” White said. “I don’t even know the kid. And you know what? To be honest with you, I’ll tell you right here right now: This is the last time you’ll hear me talk about him. I’m done.

“I put out the challenge, he said, ‘You do coke,’ I said, ‘I think you use performance-enhancing drugs. Let’s do it.’ He never responded to it, so fire away, kid. Do your thing.”

“I’m arguing with this kid that doesn’t fight for me and is never gonna fight for me, so what’s the point of he and I going back and forth with each other?” (Transcribed by MMA News)

One of the biggest MMA stories in the year 2021 was a feud caused by the constant war of words between Paul and White. Many words were exchanged including White saying that Amanda Nunes would leave Paul in a coma after the YouTuber claimed Nunes had no star power.

The Origins Of Dana White’s Beef With Jake Paul

White began to express his issues with what the Paul brothers were doing in the sport of boxing after it was announced that Logan Paul would be taking on Floyd Mayweather. However, it wasn’t until Jake took on Ben Askren that the fireworks really started to fly.

White jokingly claimed he would be willing to bet one million dollars that Paul would lose the fight and had a handshake agreement for the bet with Snoop Dogg. After Paul knocked Askren out, Snoop Dogg called out White demanding that he pay up but the boss claimed he never made the bet and was just speaking tongue-in-cheek.

Paul then fought former UFC champion Tyron Woodley which led to more drama between the two. White figuratively bet against Paul and lost again and this time Paul responded by claiming he had embarrassed White’s entire organization.

Of course, the underlying factor to this war of words has always been the subject of UFC fighter pay. The most recent and seemingly final battle between the two came when White issued a unique challenge to Paul and was met with a checklist of orders in return.

Do you think Dana White is seriously done with the beef or will we see more drama between him and Paul?
