UFC Fight Night 108 – Bryan Barberena Vs. Joe Proctor 155 lbs

Until he came up against Colby Covington, Bryan Barberena looked invincible with nine wins in his last ten fights, including victories over the likes of reputable fighters such as Sage Northcutt and Warlley Alves. However, Colby Covington really brought Barbereba back to earth with a one sided decision victory.

Still, there is no taking away the threat that Bryan Barberena is. Of his nine victories, a staggering 8 of them are via knockout! Barbereba isn’t playing games, that is for sure.

On the other hand, we have Joe Proctor (11 – 4) whose victories against Jordan Rinaldi and Chris Tickle came prior to his defeat at the hands of James Vick.

His last outing did not go too well either, he was knocked out b Magomed Mstafaev. However, that fight was 16 months ago and Proctor has not fought since. Has he been hard at work at training? We will have to wait and see on UFC fight night 108.

We can see this fight progressing for more than a couple of rounds, but sooner or later, Barberena is going to prove too much for the out of touch Proctor. We are going with a Barereba victory via a technical knock – out.

UFC Fight Night 108 – Alexis Davis Vs. Cindy Dandois 135lbs

Alexis Davis (17 – 7) lost to Ronda Rousey via a knock out but then bounced back strong and won six fights which included a superb armbar submission against Sara Kaufman which made it her sixth win in seven fights. Since then, she has lost again, but to Sara McMann this time via a submission. […]

However, we have to cut Davis some slack for this loss, the fight was postponed by a long 19 months as Davis was pregnant and delivered her baby. It is impressive that she was able to get back into the octagon competitively so soon post her pregnancy. Her loss to Sara McMann was her first loss via submission. Usually, she is the better one when it comes to submissions and this is evident from the fact that eight of her professional wins have come via submissions – mostly armbar’s or rear – naked chokes.

Davis is going to be coming up against Cindy Dandois this when she steps into the octagon come UFC Fight Night 108. Cindy Dandois fought professionally for the first time back in 2009 and was able to clinch a decision victory in her debut against Marloes Coenen.

Since that decision victory, Dandois hasn’t fought another fight which has gone to the judges.

Both these female fighters are excellent grapplers and we expect that a lot of the fight is going to be on the ground. They are both flexible, technical and insidious. Will Alexis Davis be able to subject Dandois to one of her signature armbars or rear naked chokeholds?

We think it is going to be a stale mate and will go to the judges, where Davis may get the edge. We are going to put our money on Davis winning via unanimous decision.

Alan Jouban vs. Gunnar Nelson Icelander Gunnar Nelson (15-2-1) seems to be a 3-1 favorite for his fight against Alan Jouban (15-4). Alan Jouban vs. Gunnar Nelson

Icelander Gunnar Nelson (15-2-1) seems to be a 3-1 favorite for his fight against Alan Jouban (15-4). Nelson is believed to be among the best grapplers with five submission wins to his credit. However, you need to note that he hasn’t got the better of fighters in his division in the top 15.  That’s definitely something to think about.  Jouban’s record is similar to the Icelander’s in the UFC but the what’s notable now is that he is on a winning streak.

If Nelson can manage to get his opponent to the floor he will have a good chance of striking gold. He is known to start well but eventually start fading out. On the other hand, Jouban tends to maintain a steady pace throughout and is good on the floor too. While Nelson is a good striker his downfall could be his lackadaisical approach to offense. Therefore, punters ought to take a chance on Jouban who could pull this one off with a unanimous decision.

Brad Pickett (25-13) vs. Marlon Vera (8-3-1)

135-pounders Brad Pickett and Marlon Vera face off in what could be one of most interesting fights in the under 155 pounds category this year. Pickett had an upper hand in the British MMA and did make it big in WEC and Cage Rage. He also pulled off some an amazing win against Demetrious Johnson and fought hard against Thomas Almeida although he was unable to pull that one off. However, Pickett hasn’t been able to take off after that. He can pack a punch but hasn’t been able to shine on the ground.

Marlon Vera may seem an underdog since he hasn’t won back-to-back contests in seven fights over three years. Pickett has probably seen replays and discovered there is nothing new in Vera’s bag.  The reason why Vera may pull it off is because Pickett hasn’t been able take off. But the fact remains that Pickett has had a couple of knocks against top fighters over the years. Therefore, the grapevine is that Pickett should be able to come out victorious against Vera by a unanimous decision.

UFC Fight Night 107 – Jimi Manuwa vs. Corey Anderson

UFC Fight Night 107 on Saturday March 18, 2017 in London is expected to be one of the hottest competitions in the year so far. Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson are set to take on each other in the headliner scheduled for five rounds. Alan Jouban and Gunnar Nelson also face off in the 170 pound co-event while Brad Pickett and Marion Vera are also scheduled to go hell for leather at each other as Pickett seeks to end his combat sports career on a high not. Makwan Amir Khan and Arnold Allen are part of the main card.

So who’s going to come out in the O2 Arena in London? Let’s try and look deeper than a crystal ball.

Poster boy Jimi Manuwa (16-2) vs Corey Anderson (9-2)

Manuwa is capable of putting up a good fight and even brags about it. He has also made no bones about picking at the others in the 205-pound division who have turned down fights against him. That said, the fact is that Manuwa aka ‘poster boy’ failed to make good of two opportunities. He failed to get the better of Alexander Gustafsson and was demolished at UFC 191 by the Brit, Anthony Johnson. So is his bragging really got any fuel?  At 37, Manuwa doesn’t seem to have enough steam although he could pull it off against mid-tier fighters including Corey Anderson.

Speaking of Anderson, he too hasn’t had a pretty good run in the last eight fights. He won only two of them. It could be that his skill set isn’t refined as yet. What works for him is that he seems to be a better athlete and can frustrate Manuwa but the question of whether he could keep up the pace over five rounds, is still debatable. Therefore, the gods seem to be in favor of Manuwa winning by a knockout.

Alex Oliveira vs. Tim Means

UFC Fight Night 106 welterweight bout between Tim Means (26-7-1 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Alex Oliveira (16-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) is also slated to be a tough match. The last fight in UFC 207 in December was filled with controversies and this time around the crowds will hope things are different. When Oliveira was a downed opponent Means hit the Brazilian with a pair of illegal knees. The fight was ruled a no-contest after Dan Miragliotta, the referee, claimed the knee was accidental and hence the rematch in Fortaleza, Brazil in UFC Fight Night 106. Remember, the Brazilian used a spinning back kick to knock Means down in their first bout. However, Means seems to be in good form at -211.

Means says the two are going to start off where they left off and also believed that in the earlier bout Oliviera was losing. He claimed that the Brazilian wasn’t successful in outwrestling and out-grappling him, and assumes he was the stronger fighter. Means seems to also be confident of putting Oliveira down in front of his friend and family. He claims his strength is in the wresting and grappling exchanges, which may be one more reason to throw a few punts on Means.

Garreth McLellan vs. Paulo Henrique Costa

The middleweight bout between South African Garreth (Soldier Boy) McLellan comes into UFC Fight Night 106 in Fortaleza at +257 with some bookies. McLellan has only 1 win to  his credit in the UFC out of three matches. This win was at UFC Fight Night 76 against Bubba Bush. Incidentally, the South African is the second biggest underdog on the card (+290) so it might be worth putting some bucks on him. One of the reasons why this may prove profitable is that Costa hasn’t had a taste of UFC as yet.
