This fight could go anyway since the possibilities are just limitless and so it would be a moot point to talk about all the “what ifs” of this match up. Holly Holm ( 10 – 2 ) will take on Germaine de Randamie ( 6 – 3 )  come UFC fight night 208 in the featherweight division. The purpose that this fight was initially intended to serve was that it was supposed to either be a predecessor to a blockbuster rematch between Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey or it would result in the emergence of a worthy challenger for Cris “Cyborg” Justino who has not really had anyone actually stand up to her and give stiff competition since Gina Carano back in the year 2009.

However, we all know what happened with Ronda Rousey recently and we also know that Cyborg failed a drug test and is now pretty much a sitting duck waiting to be slapped with a suspension – which we believe will be a one year ban. Rousey, on the other hand was humbled by Amanda Nunes in a matter of seconds during UFC fight night 207 which has left a big question mark about Rousey’s career – when will she fight? or will she ever fight again? Your guess is as good as ours in this matter!

Irrespective of what purpose the Holm Vs. Randamie fight was supposed to serve, we cannot deny that it is going to be an excellent fight and the highlight of the night.

How to bet – the basics – When you are placing a bet on a Bellator fight you will notice that the fighters have some numbers in brackets next to their names. Each fight, will have one fighter who is favored or known more commonly as the favorite and an underdog. The underdog fighters name will be appended with a positive number and the favorite fighters name will be appended with a negative number. For instance let’s assume the odds to be +170 and -160 this means that you would bet $100 to win $170 and $160 to win $100 respectively.

Now that you catch the drift, here are some of our picks for Bellator 171.

Guillard vs. Njoukuani – Guillard is more experienced, but Njoukuani is young, confident and in fantastic form. Furthermore, Guillard’s recent performances have been under par and it will certainly not help going into this fight.

We do favor Njoukuani here and would put our money on him.

David Rickels vs. Aaron Derrow – Rickets, despite having lost to Guillard recently, was champion of the tournament in season 8 and we all know what he is capable of. His opponent is Derrow who has not fought competitively in over two years now and should not be a real problem for Rickels, but will be certainly looking to make things as difficult as possible for Rickels.

Our pick here is Rickels, we just can’t see him losing this one.

Bellator 171 – what you should not miss out on!

Chidi Njoukuani has been on fire and is on a roll which so far has proved to be unstoppable, but now he comes up against a challenge the likes of which he has not faced before and we are all eagerly waiting to see how he will match up against none other than Melvin Guillard. […]

Chidi Njoukuani has been on fire and is on a roll which so far has proved to be unstoppable, but now he comes up against a challenge the likes of which he has not faced before and we are all eagerly waiting to see how he will match up against none other than Melvin Guillard. Guillard has a ton of experience under his belt, and is a UFC veteran that is no stranger to facing up and coming talents and usually puts them and the buzz surrounding them to rest. Will he able to punch out Njoukuani’s hopes and dreams? It is a real tough nut to crack and we can only wait and watch what happens.

Njoukuani is a former Tachi Palace Fights champion and has a fair bit of experience and ring time in his own right. His last six outings have gone as planned and he has looked confident, agile and sharp every second of every fight. This fight will be the headliner on the main card which also features three other mouth watering mash ups and will air on Spike TV at 9 pm Eastern time. If you would also like to catch a glimpse of the preliminary fights then you may do so getting online and onto Spiketv.com.

Bellator 171 main card also includes Rickets vs.Derrow, A.J. McKee vs. Brandon Phillips and Tyrell Fortune vs. Jarod Trice. It is going to be a fight night to remember!

January has whizzed by and the yet the year seems just as unpredictable in terms of when and where we can see some of the biggest, baddest, UFC stars fight and whom they are going to come up against.

Having said that, the upcoming UFC fight night will at least shed some light on one of the women’s divisions as we will have a clearer picture in terms of what is next for Amanda Nunes who, as we all know, obliterated the over hyped Ronda Rousey in just 45 seconds like she was no match for her. Now, Nunes who is also known as “The Lioness” is looking for her next prey. Her opponent will be determined by the main event on UFC on Fox 23 which will see Valentina Shevchenko take on Julianna Pena.

Shevchenko’s last fight was against Holly Holm (who herself gained immense popularity after knocking out Ronda Rousey) and she emerged victorious via unanimous decision. On the other hand, Pena is no slouch either and has been hungry for a title shot and waiting patiently for close to a year now. Pena’s last outing was a win and like Shevchenko’s previous victory, it also came courtesy of unanimous decision. Pena beat Cat Zingano and even made comments that she will raise hell if she does not get her opportunity at the title shot.

Are either of them good enough to pose a threat to Nunes who is on top of the world at this moment? Only time will tell.

Bellator 171 – Guillard vs. Njokuani

For its last card, Bellator has really roped in the big names and now for Bellator 171 which is going to take place in Mulvane, Kan at the Kansas Star Arena the campaign has stepped it up again with a four-fight main card.

The attraction of the night is going to be without a doubt the headliner wherein UFC veteran Melvin Guillard will get a chance to showcase his experience and supreme skills. Guillard’s last outing did not quite go as per plan – he lost. Guillard will most certainly be looking to avenge his defeat and prove himself when he comes up against welterweight Chidi Njokuani .

Guillard, while more experienced and established in the sport, will not have it easy for sure. Njokuani is an up and coming fighter that has shown promise and great potential in the way that he fights. He has finesses, technique and brute force too. Furthermore, Njokuani is going to be coming into this fight with his confidence at an all time high considering the winning streak that he has been on. A win against a Guillard, while it seems like unlikely, is not off the cards and would essentially see Njokuani breaking into the upper echelon of Bellator’s welterweight division.

The event will be brought to you from live on Spike TV at 9 p.m. eastern time whereas the preliminary action will be aired on Spike.com two hours prior to the main card.

B.J Penn has contrasting personalities. In the ring, he is ruthless monster of a fighter and outside he is the epitome of a gentleman.

The fact of the matter is that Penn has had a long and rather successful fighting career and some would say he is well beyond retirement and yet continues to show passion to fight and compete and always challenge himself.

However, we have seen in the past where he has come into fights visibly out of shape, lacking conditioning and has had to pay the price dearly.

He now comes up against Yair Rodrigues, a fighter who is a savage and might be too much for Penn to handle at this point. Some fans believe Penn is not ready for this fight, and he should not be in the ring with someone with the potential of Rodrigues and that Penn has bitten off more than he can chew.

Despite being heavily unfavored, Penn continues to push boundaries and it is going to be very interesting to see how he matches up against Rodrigues.

Penn’s last fight did not go very well for him and he was no match for Frankie Edgar.
