Undefeated UFC light heavyweight Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis (8-0) was left without an opponent for UFC 129 when Matt Hamill was rescheduled to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 130.

A report from MMAjunkie.com this afternoon now has Davis meeting Jason Brilz (18-3-1) at the upcoming Toronto event at the end of April. According to the website both men have made verbal agreements to fight and are expected to sign the fight contract soon to formalize the bout.

Davis is undefeated in eight bouts and has won four straight under the UFC banner and all in 2010. His last octagon appearance came in November at UFC 123 when he used the “Mr. Wonderful” submission (a modified kimura) to force the tap against Tim Boetsch. The submission earned Davis the “Submission of the Night” bonus. Other victories include a unanimous decision over Rodney Wallace at UFC 117, an anaconda choke submission victory against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 112, and a unanimous decision win over Brian Stann at UFC 109 in his promotional debut.

Brilz meanwhile enters the bout with a loss on his record, a split decision loss to BrazilAntônio Rogério Nogueira at UFC 114, a fight that was awarded “Fight of the Night” bonus. The split decision and bonus may play a factor in the promotion retaining Brilz should he lose to Davis which would put him at two straight losses. Before the Nogueira fight he earned a unanimous decision against Eric Schafer at UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones, he lost a split decision to Eliot Marshall at UFC 103, beat Tim Boetsch at UFC 96 by unanimous decision, and stopped Brad Morris via TKO at UFN 15.

UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields will take place on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The event will be the biggest mixed martial arts event in the promotions history selling 55,000 tickets in the companies first visit to the Province of Ontario.

Brown is coming off a disappointing unanimous decision loss to Rani Yahya during last weekends UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event in Fort Hood, Texas. A likely factor for Brown earning a chance to fight again was probably due to the fact that he took the fight on short notice replacing an injured Chan Sung Jung on the card.

Previous to that, Brown lost a split decision just three weeks before against Diego Nunes at UFC 125. His last WEC bout took place in September at WEC 51 against Cole Province, a fight he won by TKO in the first round.

Brown underwent surgery earlier this week for a torn ligament in his left hand, an injury he suffered in his loss to Yahya last weekend.

After taking a fight with Rani Yahya on short notice as part of last weekends UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event, former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown (24-8) is reporting that he’ll undergo surgery for his left hand after damaging it in his fight with Yahya.

Brown, who fought just three weeks prior to last Saturday at UFC 125, posted this notice on his Facebook page late last night.

Thanks for the continued support. Wanted to let everyone know that i’m doing fine, but I tore a radial cruciate ligament in my left hand in the first round of the fight. Surgery tomorrow. A crazy month for sure.

The former WEC champ lost both fights, dropping a unanimous decision to Yahya and a split decision to Diego Nunes at the UFC 125 show. The loss puts Brown at a 2-4 record and could very well see him dismissed from the UFC, but no word has come out confirming his future with the UFC at this time.
