Heavyweight fighter Alistair ‘The Reem’ Overeem (36-12) will return to the Octagon this August when he takes on Travis ‘Hapa’ Browne (14-1-1) as part of the promotions first event on FOX Sports 1.

News of the bout was announced by MMAjunkie.com earlier today.

UFC on FOX Sports 1: 1 is expected to take place on August 17, 2013 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

The bout between Overeem vs. Browne will appear on the events main card but will not headline the event. Another major bout will headline the event according to UFC president Dana White, who also confirmed that piece of news with the website.

Overeem had been expected to face former UFC champ Junior dos Santos this weekend at UFC 160 but was forced out due to injury. ‘The Reem’ was last in action this past February suffering his first loss since September 2007 after No. 1 contender Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva knocked him out at UFC 156. Prior to that match, Overeem made his Octagon debut stopping former title holder Brock Lesnar via first round TKO at UFC 141.

Browne had his last match just over a month ago, beating Gabriel Gonzaga by first round knockout at the TUF 17 Finale. The win allowed ‘Hapa’ to bounce back from the first defeat of his career, a TKO loss to ‘Bigfoot’ back in October 2012 at UFC on FX 5. That loss ended a fourteen bout undefeated streak which included five wins and one draw in the Octagon.
