A light heavyweight match between former UFC champ Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida (19-3) and Phil ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Davis (11-1) appears to be in the works for this summer’s upcoming UFC 163 event in Brazil.

News of the matchup comes via Portal do Vale Tudo and was confirmed as a fight the top promotion by is working on by MMAFighting.com.

UFC 163: Aldo vs. Pettis is expected to take place on August 3, 2013 at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The event will see UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo defend his title against former WEC lightweight title holder Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis.

Machida is 3-1 in his last four matches and is coming off a split decision victory over Dan Henderson last February at UFC 157. That bout was a No. 1 contender match but with champ Jon Jones injured, and leaning towards a fight with Alexander Gustafsson, Machida apparently wants to stay busy by taking the match with Davis.

Davis has won two in-a-row and is 2-1 (1NC) in his last four matches. ‘Mr. Wonderful’ fought last April in New Jersey, defeating opponent Vinny Magalhães by decision in the match. The other victory was a back-to-back rematch versus Wagner Prado after their first match ended in a “No Contest” after an accidental eye poke by Davis at UFC on FOX 4. The rematch took place at UFC 153 and ended in a submission victory after a second round anaconda choke.
