Before the sleepy RFA 15 unfolded on June 6, fans best knew referee Mike Beltran as the man with the longest mustache in MMA.

But Beltran made new waves with the ballsy and rare decision he made with 35 seconds left in the bout between Sam Toomer and an extremely timid Daniel Aguiar.

Beltran warned Aguiar on several instances in the first two rounds to stop perpetually stalling the action with butt scoots.

Finally, in the third round, and because Aguiar refused to engage and continued to resort to the butt scoot, Beltran stopped the action and deducted a point from the 34-year-old Brazilian.

Still, Aguiar continued his escapade of continuously falling to his bottom, ultimately causing Beltran to stop the fight and disqualify him at the 4:25 mark of the final round.

In the AXS TV video above, Beltran justified his actions and explained how Aguiar left him with no choice but to disqualify him.

“I had to do something. He put me in a position as a referee that I had to enforce the rules. At that point, there, I deducted a point for timidity [because] I thought that maybe that would motivate him to engage in the contest, however, he did not. He did not want to engage [and] he kept flopping to the floor.”

Aguiar, a Black House featherweight who has racked up a 10-4 record since turning pro in 2005, broke foul No. 23 in the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. To commit this foul, a fighter simply avoids contact through butt scooting or the dropping of his or her mouthpiece on several occasions.

Although he’s never suffered a TKO/KO, each of Aguiar‘s 10 wins have come via submission, a fact that explains his exaggerated tendency to continuously try and take the fight to the mat.
