It will have been more than a year since Chan Sung Jung stepped in the Octagon, but “The Korean Zombie” is back. The UFC announced on Saturday morning that Jung will take on Akira Corassani at UFC Fight Night 53, which takes place on Oct. 4 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The featherweight bout will be the co-main event.
Jung last fought in Aug. 2013 at UFC 163 against Jose Aldo for the 145-pound belt. He came up short in his title bid, and also suffered a separated shoulder that shelved him from action. Before his bout with Aldo, Jung had rattled off three victories in a row, including a memorable Fight of the Year candidate against Dustin Poirier. The popular Korean fighter also had the Submission of the Year in his fight against Leonard Garcia in 2011, when he finished the Jackson’s fighter with a rarely seen twister.
For Corassani, it’s a return home to his native Sweden. The 31-year old fighter, who hails from Lund but now trains out of New York with Renzo Gracie, had also won three fights in a row before having the streak snapped in April at the The Ultimate Fighter: Nations finale in Quebec City against Poirier. Corassani is an alum of TUF 14, where he lost in the semi-finals against Dennis Bermudez. He has gone 3-1 in the UFC since then.
UFC Fight Night 53 will take place at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm on Oct. 4. The card will be headlined by Icelandic upstart Gunnar Nelson in a welterweight bout against Rick Story. Tickets for the event go on sale Aug. 22.
