A light heavyweight bout between former champion Mauricio Rua and Jimi Manuwa is being discussed for a fight in Brazil, according to a report on UFC Tonight.
Ariel Helwani reported that the popular Brazilian “Shogun” Rua was being targeted for the bout with Manuwa for a UFC Fight Night on Nov. 8 in Uberlandia, Brazil. The 32-year old Rua last fought in March against Dan Henderson, a fight that he was knocked out in after convincingly winning the first round. Overall, Shogun has dropped three of four fights.
Manuwa had racked up a perfect 14-0 record, including three victories in the UFC, when he fought Alexander Gustafsson this past March in England. The Nigerian-English fighter lost via TKO in the second round of that bout, in which he was replaced Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
Though UFC officials are in discussions to make that fight, nothing has been finalized yet. UFC Fight Night Brazil has already announced a light heavyweight bout between Ovince St. Preux, who is coming off a loss to Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 47 in Maine, against Rafael Cavalcante. “Feijao” is also coming off a loss to Bader.
