At this point, Dennis Siver is just hoping that there’s somebody standing across from him on Oct. 4 in Stockholm, Sweden.
That’s because once again there’s been an opponent switch. Siver was slated to fight 22-year old Parisian fighter Taylor Lapilus at UFC Fight Night 53, but the Swedish commission has deemed Lapulis an unsuitable opponent to face the accomplished Siver (21-9-1), who has fought 17 times in the UFC against some of the world’s best athletes.
Lapilus has compiled an 8-1 record since turning pro in 2012, which wasn’t enough to sway the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
“The change comes following a ruling by the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation regarding Taylor Lapilus, who was due to fight Siver on 4 October,” a UFC press release stated. “The SMMA ruled that Lapilus, fighting out of Paris, France, was not a suitable opponent for Siver.”
Lapilus will now be replaced by the newly-signed Charles Rosa (9-0), who is taking the fight on less than a week’s notice. Rosa fights out of Boynton Beach, Florida, where he trains with American Top Team.
For Siver, it’s the second time that he has had an opponent fall out. The 22-year old Lapilus was already a replacement from the original opponent, Robert Whiteford, who had to withdraw from the bout due to an injury.
UFC Fight Night 53 goes down on Oct. 4 at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe Arena, and will feature a welterweight clash between Rick Story and Icelandic fighter Gunnar Nelson in the main event.
Featherweight Charles Rosa who fights out of Boynton Beach, Florida, has a 9-0 record and steps in at short notice to make his debut at the UFC’s highly anticipated return to Stockholm, Sweden.
Lapilus remains a UFC fighter and will compete at a later date.
