Donald Cerrone to face Myles Jury in UFC 182 co-main event (updated)

He won’t get to fight a fifth time in 2014, but Donald Cerrone will get his fifth fight in a calendar year. As reported by FOX Sports’ Damon Martin on Wednesday, the long-rumored bout between surging lightweights Cerrone and Myles Jury is now official.

The fight was initially reported for Jan. 18 but will instead take place in Las Vegas, Nevada in the co-main event of UFC 182 on Jan. 3.

And it will be two of the hottest 155-pound contenders colliding, potentially for a chance at a title shot.

The 31-year old Cerrone has won five straight bouts overall, his latest coming against former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 178 in September. It will be the fifth UFC fight for Cerrone inside of a year. He fought Adriano Martins at UFC on FOX 10 on Jan. 25 2013. During his latest run, Cerrone has finished four of the five opponents he’s faced, including the hard to put away Jim Miller.

As for Jury, Cerrone will be perhaps his first big test to date. The 26-year old Michigan native is coming off yet another impressive TKO victory over Takanori Gomi at UFC Fight Night 52 in Japan, and is now a perfect 6-0 in the UFC (15-0 overall). Before that Jury defeated Diego Sanchez via unanimous decision at UFC 171.

The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and will serve as the co-main event behind a UFC light heavyweight championship grudge match between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.
