Sergio Moraes vs. Peter Sobotta slated for UFC Fight Night 64 in Poland

Sergio Moraes will finally return to the Octagon.

A multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion, Moraes is set to take on Peter Sobotta at the UFC Fight Night 64 show in Krakow, Poland, on April 11. Sources close to the situation confirmed the match-up to MMAFighting.com following a report from MMANews.

Moraes (8-2) hasn’t fought since a quick first-round submission over Neil Magny on Aug. 3, 2013. He was initially scheduled to return in November of 2013 against Sean Spencer, but pulled out from the TUF 18 Finale card with an injury. Last September, a knee injury forced him out of a UFC Fight Night 51 clash with Santiago Ponzinibbio.

After a 0-3 run in the UFC in 2009 and 2010, Sobotta (14-4-1) returned to the promotion with a decision victory over Paweł Pawlak last May. The Polish welterweight is undefeated (6-0-1) since leaving the UFC in 2010, including three first-round submissions to win a one-night tournament in Germany.

Prior to the announcement of the fight, Moraes explained to MMAFighting.com why it took him so long to get back in action.

“I was supposed to undergo a knee surgery a long time ago, but the doctor told me my ligament wasn’t completely torn, so I could recover without surgery,” Moraes said. “I signed to fight Santiago and started training, but my knee blew a month before the fight, and then I had to wait for all the paperwork to be done with the UFC to finally undergo surgery.”

UFC Fight Night 64 takes place at the Krakow Arena and features a five-round rematch between Gabriel Gonzaga and Mirko Cro Cop in the main event.
