‘Shogun’ Rua vs. ‘Minotouro’ Nogueira official for UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro

The UFC has officially announced a rematch between Mauricio Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for the upcoming pay-per-view event in Rio de Janeiro.

Headlined by a championship bout between Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia, UFC 190 takes place at the HSBC Arena on August 1.

“Shogun” and “Minotouro” fought for the first time in PRIDE ten years ago, with Rua winning via decision in one of the most epic battles in the history of the sport. After that fight, “Shogun” went on to win the PRIDE middleweight grand prix.

Nogueira (21-6) signed with the UFC years later, and holds a 4-3 record inside the Octagon. In his last appearance, “Minotouro” had his two-fight winning over Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans streak snapped in 44 seconds by the hands of the next light heavyweight title contender Anthony Johnson.

Rua (22-10) is on a bad run since he lost the UFC title in 2011. Winner of only three of his past eight bouts, “Shogun” tries to rebound from back-to-back stoppage losses to Ovince St. Preux and Dan Henderson. His last win was a 63-second knockout over James Te Huna.

“Shogun” is one of the coaches of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): Brazil 4 season, which premieres April 5. “Minotouro’s” brother Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was the other coach of the reality show.
