Tony Ferguson vs. Josh Thomson set for UFC Fight Night card in San Diego

The UFC has announced the first bout to the upcoming Fight Night event in San Diego.

Unbeaten over the past five bouts, Tony Ferguson enters the Octagon for the second time in 2015 against Josh Thomson at California’s UFC Fight Night card on July 15. The event will take place at the Valley View Casino Center.

Ferguson (18-3) gets back in action five months after choking out Brazilian veteran Gleison Tibau at UFC 184. The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner is 8-1 under the UFC banner, and his current win streak includes victories over Tibau, Abel Trujillo, Danny Castillo, Katsunori Kikuno and Mike Rio.

Thomson (20-7, 1 no-contest), who was forced out of a UFC Fight Night 62 co-main event clash with Gilbert Burns earlier this month with an injury, looks for his first win since a devastating knockout victory over Nate Diaz in 2013. The former Strikeforce lightweight champion dropped his last two fights via split decision to Bobby Green and Ben Henderson.

The UFC has yet to announce the main event for the Fight Night card in San Diego.
