It’s been an interesting day for Roy “Big Country” Nelson (15-5) fans, with talk of two big names being thrown about as possible opponents for his next fight.
Nelson posted this message on his Twitter page after Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was quoted as saying he’d have fought at heavyweight to put on an exciting bout in his last fight.
I just read rampage willing to fight hwy, I would love to take that fight plus it a good pay day for rampage and fans would watch
“Big Country” had been scheduled to face Shane Carwin at UFC 125 on Jan. 1st, but the bout was canceled after Carwin pulled himself out due to a back injury.
Now, former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, has come out saying that he’d like to face Nelson next.
Bryan Alvarez at the Wrestling Observer Online provides the update.
– Brock Lesnar has asked to fight Roy Nelson.
– Lesnar believes that Nelson is a very difficult match-up and wants to be tested.
– The UFC will first offer Brock Lesnar a third fight with Frank Mir.
Facing either fighter would be an exciting bout for Nelson and would almost certainly be slotted as the headliner. What makes more sense, and more plausible, is a heavyweight matchup between “Big Country” and Lesnar.
