A featherweight matchup is almost finalized for the upcoming New Year’s day UFC 125: Resolution event featuring former WEC champ Mike Brown (24-6) and Diego Nunes (15-1).
The bout was reported on Wednesday morning by MMAjunkie.com, who noted the bout would likely take place on the unaired preliminary card.
Brown earned a win against Cole Province at WEC 51 in September, earning a first round TKO win for the former WEC featherweight champion. The win erased Brown’s first knock-out loss of his career, suffered against Manvel Gamburyan in the first round at WEC 48. Brown is just 2-2 in his last four fights which includes losing the title to Jose Aldo at WEC 44.
Brazilian featherweight Nunes, has won two straight and is 4-1 in the WEC. He also appeared on the WEC 51 card earning a unanimous decision over Tyler TOner. The other victory was a split decision versus fellow countrymen Raphael Assuncao at WEC 49 in June. The loss, the only one of his career, was to LC Davis at WEC 44 and was by unanimous decision.
UFC 125: Resolution is set for Jan. 1st at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature a main event bout between UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar versus #1 contender Gray Maynard.
