UFC featherweight Diego Brandao vows to finish every fight in one round

Diego Brandao is anxious to enter the Octagon again.

Coming off a stoppage victory over Jimy Hettes at UFC on FOX 15 in April, the TUF 14 featherweight winner will likely return to action in August, and promises to finish any opponent in five minutes.

Sean Shelby told me I will fight soon. He told me to keep my weight down because I will fight soon,” Brandao told MMAFighting.com. “I haven’t stopped training since my fight with Jimy Hettes. I want to enter the top 10 of the division. That’s my first goal now.”

According to Brandao, the UFC contacted him about fighting at UFC Fight Night 66, less than a month after his win over Hettes, but the offer never materialized.

“I almost fought in Manila, at the Edgar vs. Faber card, but it didn’t work out. So (Shelby) told me to stay in shape that they will call me soon,” he said. “He didn’t give me any names yet, but said I will fight in August.”

“Whoever the UFC puts in front of me, I will finish,” he continued. “I will finish everyone in the first round to show my work and prove that I deserve to be a top 10 in the featherweight division.”

Back to the win column after losses to Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, Brandao credits his decision to move back to Brazil for his recent victory. The UFC featherweight moved to Sao Paulo to stay closer to his manager, Ivan Jatoba, and train at 011 MMA Team, and brought his family with him.

“The reason I decided to return to Brazil is to stay closer to my family,” he said. “I spent the last 10 years in America, away from my family, and now I want to enjoy this time with them. It would be tough to live in Manaus, where I was raised, so I decided to come to Sao Paulo with them.”

Brandao won’t stop training with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, though.

“We are training at 011, but I will still go Jackson’s MMA, start my camp there. I haven’t been there in a year,” he said. “It’s hard to adapt to a city like Sao Paulo. This city is crazy. But I have some great training partners now, like Flavio Alvaro, and it’s perfect now. My manager Ivan Jatoba did a great job and everything went perfect. Everyone helped me getting this win, from Ivan to my trainer to my family.”
