Thursday’s WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki event saw several exciting finishes. Earning $10,000 “Fight Night” bonuses for their work were headliner Urijah Faber, Erik Koch, Cub Swanson and Mackens Semerzier.
WEC 52 took place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the main card being broadcast on the Versus network.
Earning the “Submission of the Night” bonus was headliner Urijah Faber who submitted opponent Takeya Mizugaki in the first round of their main event bout. Faber was able to get his opponents back, and once there didn’t take long to secure the rear-naked-choke. Referee Josh Rosenthal wasn’t able to step in right away and Mizugaki was choked unconscious before he waved off the fight.
The “Knockout of the Night” went to Erik Koch who earned a TKO win over opponent Francisco Rivera on the televised portion of the event. Koch was able to drop Rivera with a head kick and finish the fight with some ground-and-pound.
The “Fight of the Night” went to preliminary fighters Cub Swanson and Mackens Semerzier. Both men put on a fast-paced fight that had the fans standing on their feet at the end of the fight. It was a back-and-forth fight with Swanson earning the split decision from the judges.
