Jose Aldo vows to ‘smash’ Conor McGregor, says he’ll return to training in two weeks
UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was forced out of UFC 189 with a rib injury, and watched Conor McGregor win the interim title on Saturday night.
A day after “The Notorious’” knockout victory over Chad Mendes at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Aldo spoke with radio show Rock Bola following a soccer match in Rio de Janeiro, and discussed his upcoming bout with the Irish featherweight.
“We will run through him no matter when the fight happens, but his time will come,” Aldo said. “When it does, you can be sure we will smash him.”
Aldo fractured his rib two weeks before the fight, and has yet to return to training at Nova Uniao gym.
“I’m still recovering, should be back to training in two weeks,” he said. “I’ll do more exams. As soon as the doctor clears me, I’ll be back to training.”
The UFC has yet to announce a new date for Aldo vs. McGregor. “The Notorious” is currently slated to coach the 22nd season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite Urijah Faber. The reality show premieres Sept. 9 on FOX Sports.
