Jose Aldo on UFC Reebok kit: ‘We are the Power Rangers’

RIO DE JANEIRO — UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo won’t be able to bring his sponsors to the Octagon with him when he finally puts his title on the line against Conor McGregor, and he’s not happy with the design Reebok came up with for the UFC kit.

The UFC kicked off its deal with Reebok on Saturday night at UFC 189, and fighters had their own uniform to wear during fight week. Aldo, who pulled out from a UFC 189 clash with McGregor with a rib injury, compared the Reebok kit to a Power Rangers costume.

“It sucks, but what can we do?” Aldo said during a press conference at Nova Uniao gym in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “We know it’s a private company, everybody has their contracts. I don’t think it looks good, everyone has their own style. I can’t do anything about it, just talk. We have to accept. We are the Power Rangers.”

Fighters have expressed different opinions on the design, but most of them approved the quality of the material. Aldo, who has yet to try it out, will make a full evaluation after he puts it on for the first time.

“We’ll see. When I try it out, I can talk about it,” he said.

McGregor finished Chad Mendes to become the UFC interim featherweight champion at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but the UFC has yet to announce a new date for Aldo vs. McGregor.
