Fabricio Werdum wants to co-headline Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor UFC card

RIO DE JANEIRO — UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum doesn’t mind if he’s not headlining a card in his first title defense.

Coming off a second-round submission victory over Cain Velasquez, “Vai Cavalo” spoke with the media during UFC 190 fight week and asked to be part of the Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor card, which could take place in December.

“I want to fight on the Aldo vs. McGregor card,” Werdum told the media. “Fans want to watch this fight, so I’m willing to fight there.”

It’s unlikely that the UFC moves Aldo-McGregor to a co-main event slot, and Werdum is willing to co-headline a featherweight title bout.

“For sure, I would be down to fight in the co-main event,” said the heavyweight champion. “There’s a lot of expectation for this fight between Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo, it will get a lot of attention. Heavyweights are important, of course, but a fight like this will draw more attention than a rematch with Cain Velasquez, for an example.”

If he doesn’t get the chance to fight on the Aldo-McGregor card, Werdum expects his first title defense to take place in February.

“I will probably fight in December of February, at the Super Bowl weekend card,” he said. “I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but I would really like to fight on this card.”
