Jose Aldo confirms Nova Uniao threatened to sue Chael Sonnen

RIO DE JANEIRO — Nova Uniao wasn’t happy with Chael Sonnen.

The former UFC middleweight revealed on his podcast that featherweight champion Jose Aldo threatened to sue him for his comments over the rib injury that forced him out of a UFC 189 clash with Conor McGregor.

According to Sonnen, Aldo was considering suing him and the UFC for defamation. The Nova Uniao featherweight spoke with the media during UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and denied any intention to sue the promotion, but had a different approach towards the ex-fighter.

“We had nothing with the UFC, but with (Sonnen’s) statements,” Aldo said on Saturday night. “It wasn’t me, my team felt offended by the things he said about the team, especially ‘Dede’ (Pederneiras). We were upset.”

It looks like they won’t engage in a legal war, and Aldo isn’t upset with Sonnen anymore.

“He was always a talker,” Aldo said. “You can’t write the things he says. They were upset, but I was cool about it. I didn’t care much about it.”
