Following his loss to Maiquel Falcão at Saturday nights UFC 123 event, Gerald Harris (17-3) has been released by the UFC after going 3-1 with the promotion.
The loss has been confirmed by Harris himself who has informed several media sites of his release.
No statement has been made by the UFC but the promotions president Dana White had noted during the UFC 123 post press conference that fighters were in the octagon to “fight” and not “stare at each other.” This could be a big statement to the promotions fighters especially with the impending WEC-UFC merger, that fighters are expected to put on a good show or risk being cut.
Harris had spent some time on the seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter” but failed to make an impact on the show. He would fight several times afterwords for under the banner of other promotions and would ask White for another chance with the UFC.
He’d rattle off three straight wins, earning two “Knockout of the Night” awards, one for his memorable body slam of opponent Dave Branch knocking his opponent out at UFC 116. Harris had won a total of ten fights before the loss to Falcão last weekend.
