Daniel Cormier has been pulled out of his UFC 197 rematch against Jon Jones due to a undisclosed injury. The news was first reported by bjpenn.com and subsequently reported by Ariel Helwani and MMAjunkie. With DC out of the fight, “Bones” is left without an opponent.
This is the first time in Cormier’s MMA career that he has pulled out of a fight. No word yet from the UFC on the news or what could happen with the card. Some have speculated that the rematch itself could be postponed until UFC 200 to help create more depth in that main card that will include Diaz vs. McGregor 2.
In the report, it states that Cormier was having a hard time walking during a wrestling tournament recently. American Kickboxing Academy has been plagued with recent injuries with the likes of Cain Velasquez and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Even if the Cormier vs. Jones 2 bout is pulled out of the card, UFC 197 is still very stacked. Demetrious Johnson vs. Henry Cejudo could be the main event which is for the 125 pound title, and Anthony Pettis vs. Edson Barboza could serve as the co-main event.
